Oh Berty Berty AHhahahahaha. Don't be ashamed of your avatar and sig, Bert....!!!! lol.

I actually enjoyed reading that editorial, I must say. Although there are quite a few generalisations in there that I have to disagree with. Obviously...not all us guys oggle at girls and leap at the chance to try and grope them simply because we're given the opportunity to.
But come on, give a geek a chance. If he feels he has to affirm his masculinity by doing that, let him hahahaha.

I think I should stop before i start over-analysing and say this:
You should stop over-analysing. lol.
It is, after all, just a marketing ploy. Guys only do what they do at E3 because they're getting into the spirit of it. Sure there's a tsunami of testosterone flooding everywhere, but its all for the fun of it. I'm sure they realise that the booth babes don't REALLY have feelings for them (except to sell their products) and if they think they do, then they're dopes. I'm sure Bert knows this too. Don't you, Bert
But it is quite pathetic the amount of attention (degrading or otherwise) that they get......as some guys really do seem to not realise the fact that Booth Babes are not the attractions, the games are. And NO sexy, scantily clad chick can hide a bad game.

« on: March 31, 2005, 04:30:53 PM »
Advertising has been everywhere in gamesfor ages.
Anything that remotely resembles the present day anyway.

Its just that now they can make them more realistic. For sure, I would buy a game solely if i could see a McDonald's billboard, thats been made SO realistically that you can see it PEELING off it because of the weather.

WHOAHOAHOA

One thing I hate about cinematics in games is the when they show your character doing things that you can't actually do.
MGS:TTS comes to mind - as its the only game I have with extensive cinematics:
- doing backflips in slow motion while jumping onto a ballistic missile which deflects it back at the shooter.....
- kicking a gun up from the ground and spinnning around and shooting
- dodging sword swipes and gun shots matrix style
You can't do ANY of those in the game!!! ONLY IN THE CINEMATICS!!

I do love cinematics in games though, so long as they are necessary to the story and aren't there just for the sake of having them, which a lot of developers do.

TalkBack / RE: EDITORIAL: The Lost Innovations
« on: March 03, 2005, 06:58:22 PM »
The Lion King was the first movie ever that made me cry.
Nintendogs will sell like crazy.

Rick's right, though. Emotional game characters; characters that have an actual life, would be quite an achievement indeed. Awesome realistic graphics are....well....awesome, but making these complex meshes of polygons into beings that we can relate to is the key - not that it hasn't been done before.
WW is a great example, as the characters do have GREAT emotion animations, but, like Majora's Mask, their activities are merely scripted. The life of the villager is nothing more than to 'walk to that mailbox everyday', or 'stand there day and night until Link talks to you'. I've never played Pikmin, though. Granted, you can't have TRUE unscripted AI.
Some ideas popped into my head about game characters that have a 'life' in the game, but i tend do babble when i explain things hahahaha.

General Chat / RE: DS Breaks Australian Sales Records!
« on: February 27, 2005, 11:26:44 PM »
Yikes......in the last 5 years, we've had PS2, Xbox, GC, GBA, and GBA SP.

I take this news with a grain of salt.....the launch was quite lacklustre, and according to Infernal, lotsa people (including him, mario and hybrid) have had their DS break down.
If it IS true, then geez......well done Ninty....I guess...lol =/

Iwata-san: What??? We have a division Down Under?
Secretary: Down under where?
Iwata-san: The world. Underneath us. Or something.
Secretary: Oh. You mean Australia?
Iwata-san: What? What is Australia? Say it with me...its AUSTRIAAAA, not this Australia rubbish.....

*meanwhile in Austria...uhhh... Australia*

David Yarton: I wonder when they're gonna call, Mr CEO sir. Its been 20 years since we opened up HQ here...and they still haven't acknoledged our existence yet =(
CEO: Dave, just got a call from a friend of a friend of a cousin of mine. Says she works at Nintendo or something. You're being shipped off to Europe.
David: HOORAAY!!!!
CEO: We'll miss you, Dave. I've loved you like a brother. You're the only one who's stood by me. Now that you're going, I have no reason to live.
*commits ritual suicide*
David: =( Perhaps I should stay here and take over as CEO?
God: NO. YOU MUST ABANDON THIS OUTPOST AND SERVE UNDER THE EUROPEAN BANNER OF OPPRESSION!
David: .....eh?
God: nevermind

TalkBack / RE: Donkey Konga Australian Song List Details
« on: October 17, 2004, 02:28:35 AM »
You know for an aussie game list there's not much aussie music.

I was expecting more 80s Kylie music.
And some stuff from today, at least.
Maan....Jet would be AWESOME to put on Donkey Konga! Their songs have MAD drumming, and some clapping and tamborine stuff!

We have something like that over here as well.
Starlight Kids Foundation or whatever.
Best thing about it is that that Nintendo is the main sponsor, so all the video games are NIntendo!
I dunno if it's still Nintendo, cause really, Nintendo Australia have slacked off in ways unimaginable

Nintendo Gaming / RE: They should make a Zelda RPG.
« on: September 03, 2004, 04:08:03 PM »
Me and Bill were discussing Zelda, and the directions it should take.
I wanted it to be a bigger, more epic kinda game like Final Fantasy is.

I just don't like the way the huge worlds are only for RPGs.
IN fact, I just wish that FF ditched the turn-based battle system and left everything else.
FF needs a real revolutionary direction. *wink wink*
