General Chat / Eminence presents: A Night in Fantasia 2007
« on: April 14, 2007, 01:24:29 AM »
Hey guys, been a while since i posted here....must be at LEAST a year or so now!

Eminence is an orchestra based in Sydney, Australia that specialises in Video Games and Anime music.
It was formed in 2003, and every year since, has held many unforgettable concerts.
In addition to the our signature concert series A Night in Fantasia, we've held many ensemble and solo concerts, like Piano Stories, Destiny: A Dreamtime Ensemble, and our recent success, Passion.
In 2005, we broke from the norm, and presented World of John Williams, showcasing many of the legendary composer's most memorable scores such as Star Wars, Harry Potter, E.T. - The Extra-Terrestrial, Home Alone, and Indiana Jones.

A Night in Fantasia 2007: Symphonic Games Edition is coming up VERY SOON - next week, actually!

This year's concert features a wide variety of music from games such as:
Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and for those who also love the games from that other console, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts and Shadow of the Colossus XD

There's a string of special guests that will be present as well!
Yasunori Mitsuda, composer of Chrono Trigger and Xenogears
Hitoshi Sakimoto, composer of Final Fantasy XII and Final Fantasy Tactics (as well as the score to Studio Gonzo's latest anime masterpiece Romeo x Juliet, which Eminence performed!)
Yoko Shimomura, composer of Kingdom Hearts and the upcoming Final Fantasy Verses XIII
Kow Otani, composer of Shadow of the Colossus and Haibane Renmei
Masaru Shiina, composer of Tales of Legendia and Tekken: Dark Resurrection
Junichi Nakatsuru, composer of Soul Calibur, Time Crisis II, Ridge Racer, Ace Combat: The Unsung War
Shirou Hamaguchi, arrangements and performances for a variety of Final Fantasy pieces including One Winged Angel, and composer of Ah! My Goddess: The Movie.

Playing in Sydney, at the Sydney Town Hall:
- Friday 20th April, 7:30pm
- Saturday 21st April, 7:30pm

and in Melbourne at the Hamer Hall:
- Friday 27th April, 7:30pm.

Tickets start at $40 for Adults, and $30 for Concession

For more information, visit:
Eminence Online

--------------------------------------

Despite the fact that I just gave a massive plug for them, there doesn't seem to be a thread on them here, so I reckon it should get a mention at least!
So who's heard of them?

Anyone on here who's from Sydney or Melbourne should definitely go to those concerts!
I can get you some cheap tickets, too (Sydney only lol)

General Chat / Final Fantasy Concert in Sydney!
« on: March 20, 2004, 02:58:46 AM »
I don't know if ANYONE was aware of this, but last year, there was a concert for Final Fantasy music held in Sydney at the Sydney Congress Hall. Not only did they play music from Final Fantasy, they also played music from the soundtracks of Studio Ghibli's films - Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service and My Neightbour Totoro (composed by Joe Hisaishi).

Very Cool!!

I was in the Kinokuniya Bookstore (which, as well as being a HUGE bookstore in its own right, has a HUUGE range of Japanese manga and novels!!!), and there was a guy selling CDs at the front of the store, recorded from last year's concert, and thats where I'm getting all this from.

So it's MORE cool that they're planning on ANOTHER Final Fantasy concert late this year, in Sydney - I think in the Sydney Opera House!
They're also trying to invite Nobuo Uematsu himself!
The concert this year probably won't have Joe Hisaishi's music, but there is the possibility! If they do decided to, then Joe Hisaishi himself may appear also!!

The CD stall will be there till May i think. I put my name down for a newsletter, so I'll let you know if anything is announced!
Meanwhile, here's the website:

EDIT: new version of the site isn't fully working yet, so give it a few days.

Booooooooooo!!!!!!!!!

In what gave me the sh*ts when I read it, the Victorian Government is striking a deal with Sony, and later Microsoft, to provide small, local developers with free PS2 and Xbox development kits to get them started for development on those consoles.

No mention of Nintendo ANYWHERE in this deal.

It's great for Australian game-development for sure, but the fact is, this is just another look at how much people care about Nintendo. Even the Australia Game Developers Association of Australia (GDAA) is in this deal, supporting the Government and Sony. If the Government are supporting Sony and Microsoft, then Nintendo have no chance in Australia.

Your thoughts on this, which is another blow to Nintendo.

Nintendo Gaming / Goldeneye to be used by EA for next Bond game
« on: February 13, 2004, 04:33:10 PM »
The Next Bond Game Goes Back In Time

What I made of this was that they were just remaking Goldeneye, but they aren't really.

"GoldenEye" will be the inspiration for the next title developed by the publisher whose licence to thrill lasts until 2010, but the new game will not be a remake of the 1997 N64 version."

I think it IS going to Goldeneye, just different gameplay version to Rare's.
EA says that the next Bond game WON'T be developed by Free Radical, but in-house.

General Chat / Language Text Display Support
« on: December 02, 2003, 07:54:25 PM »
I put up my name and time on the F-Zero AX Internet Ranking system, and when it prompts me to download the Japanese Text Display Support, I cant seem to get it. I press 'download', then a messages pops up saying that it can't, cause it can't connect to the Network server or something, and it can't detect an internet connection.
I also have to insert the CD that has all the Cable internet stuff on it.

Can anyone help me?

General Chat / The Matrix Revolutions
« on: November 05, 2003, 05:46:45 AM »
I finished watching Matrix Revolutions just half and hour ago, and all I have to say is 'I am so f**king dizzy'.
Action was eye-ballingly fast, and the fight scenes are litterally not for the fait of heart, nor the epileptic.

I think the movie posed a few more questions imo, then it did answer, especially if you were confused in MAtrix Reloaded.
But it does have that 'resolution', that 'definite end' that the directors/producers/actors said that we would get.

I won't go into any details until other people get into this, but the movie is worth seeing, but please, prepare to turn your eyes into mush.

Nintendo Gaming / F-Zero GX/AX General Help
« on: October 27, 2003, 02:23:54 AM »
We got GX here in Oz just last Friday, and it is a kick ass game!
We've had AX here in Sydney for the last couple of months or so, but according to Mario, it's gone -_______-

Anyway,
I'm doing Story Mode, and Chapter 7 is pissing me off right now.
Much like Expert mode, the racers do quite a lot of speeding even without the need to boost - when I boost, it seems as though the other racers got a boost too.

So are there any tips for Chapter 7? What ratio should i set the acceleration/max speed balance graph? How the hell can I pass racers without them boosting past me seconds later?

Some of the other guys need help for Chapter 3, so anything for that would be cool also.

Thanks.

General Chat / Song from the 'Who Are You?' ad
« on: October 23, 2003, 03:43:31 AM »
Does anyone know what its' called and by whom?
I wanna grab this song.
I dunno, I've just been on a song-from-commercials thing lately.
So does anyone know?

EDIT:
I just changed the title of the thread so it could include what we all came here to talk about anyway - the music in ads and trailers.
Their tune maybe unforgettable, but the name of that song may just be out of our reach! Doesn't that piss you off?
If there are any sites that name the songs played in commercials, just patse the URL here, and help out your fellow buddies track down that song!

General Chat / The 'Help Termin8' thread
« on: October 13, 2003, 04:40:04 AM »
I seem to get myself into trouble sometimes, so when I do, this is where's I'll go for some help.

This is my current problem, and the rest of the Aussie fellas know about it already - it's pissing the piss outta me.

I have no idea what is happening with my browser, but I am trying to go to Google and Alta Vista, but they don't show up.
For some reason, Google Image Search works when i type in 'images.google.com', but when i try to do a web search, the page doesn't even load.
Likewise, the Australian Alta Vista works, but the US one doesn't (not that it matters, but I would like the page to load when i go to it).

The page doesn't load, so the URL turns into this, for example:
http:///?%20www.google.com

Right now, I'm using IE6, in case it's a problem with the browser.

Does anybody know or have anything that can fix it?
And please, don't suggest switching to Firebird or any other browser. IE is fine.
Just some real help please.
You've been helpful with me past......

Thanks.

General Chat / Angelfire Problem......HELP!
« on: September 23, 2003, 03:32:13 AM »
OK, if you look at the 'Windows 98 problems' thread below, I was going to format my computer. But thanks to the guys here, I fixed the problem, and didn't need to format.

Anyhoo, to back up my pictures of Natalie Portman (I have 80 of them), would have been one hellava tedious task to put them on floppys, cause i don't have enough.
So what I did was put them all on my Angelfire Webshell (the place you upload your website stuff when Angelfire is hosting for you).

Problems is, I didn't put them into a web page, you know what i mean? You know how you insert a picture onto the page, then upload both the page and the picture? Well, I uploaded the pics, but they aren't on a page.

So now, I can view them, but I can't save them back onto my hard drive. It looks like you can, but it saves the page itself (without the pic), and not the pic itself.

I don't have any of the originals on my hard drive.

Can anyone help?
I don't wanna have to trawl the net AGAIN to find pics, since it took me three years to get them, and I'm remaking my site. Time isn't a factor, since I'm not rushing my site out onto the net, but I would like an answer to this problem.

General Chat / Problems with Windows 98 SE
« on: September 10, 2003, 11:46:59 PM »
Ok, I've had this problems for a week, and I've thought of formatting my computer, but we don't have a burner or spare HDD, and there are lots of pics (from the digital camera) we really wanna keep.

The problem is that when i start up windows, two error messages appear.
One is called 'Loader', which i found that there is a problem with the 'loader.exe' file. You can find it in the WINDOWS folder.
The second error is about some file called 'iedll.exe', and the message says that the file is corrupt. Reinstall then try again. This file is also in the WINDOWS folder.

If anyone has a way of fixing this, or has any idea what these files are so that i can replace them, it would be so helpful.

I would ring Microsoft or email them, but it costs money.
Ugh.

NWR Feedback / Profile Website Links
« on: September 04, 2003, 08:13:39 PM »
It's nothing major or anything. Just a small glitch  some of you may have noticed.
Or maybe it's just me.

Click on someone's profile, and if they have a link to their personal website (like me), the link's URL has 'www.planetgamecube.com/forums' in front of it, and so makes the URL faulty.
While you can simply take that part out and continue on your way, i thought it would be something you PGC IT fellas should fix.

Cheers.

General Chat / The original N64 Dinosaur Planet trailer!!!!!
« on: August 18, 2003, 03:45:36 AM »
I was downloading the Star Fox Adventures MP3s when i realised that the song 'Galleon Raid' was the music from the original game.
I heard the song on the trailer, and after hours of searching, I found the original Trailer!!
The music still holds up to the GC version, and the graphics are still great to look at!

Obviously no direct linking, so cut and paste the URL:

http://www.dkvine.com/games/dp/movies/movies.html
then click on 'Galleon Raid, gameplay clips'.

Enjoy!!!

Nintendo Gaming / A really good read about Eternal Darkness.
« on: June 12, 2003, 06:31:46 PM »
I came across this editorial while looking for material for my critque of my Alice in Wonderland remake.
It's a really good analysis on Eternal Darkness by Sal Serio from Next Level Gaming.
Read it. It's really interesting. Well written too.
There are 5 parts, and you can access them by the bar on the left.

General Chat / The Matrix Reloaded!!!!!!!! Spoilers ahead!!!!!
« on: May 15, 2003, 02:34:21 PM »
Ok, I went and saw the midnight session with a bunch of my friends. And to say the least, it's much less 'anime' than the first one. Here's my comments, in spoiler form:

OK, what I thought was weird was how Zion's scenes are akin to Star Trek or even Star Wars. WHat I found was a real revelation was how the 'Architect' said that the role of 'The One' was not to actually save the world, but to be the one that ends the current version of The Matrix, choose 6 women and 7 men, then The Matrix starts over again, with a 'new' Zion. Apparently, the Matrix we know is the 6th version. What was also cool was how there were other 'Ones' before Neo, who did the same thing, and that the current version of the Matrix was how it is because people were able to choose their world, which was the peak of human civilisation. I also like how they explain that everyone who has a key role to play in the fate of mankind has a specific programming. For example the Oracle, the Key Maker (go little Asian man!), even Neo as 'The One'.
I think the movie belongs to Smith. No longer an Agent. "Me, me, me!" "Me too!" Haha. That fight scene was just mind blowing. I don't think that any fight scene can top it. The chase on the highway was awesome. And how cool is it how Neo can create EMPs OUTSIDE of teh matrix eh? And man, that Bane (or something) guy, the other survivor. Ooooooh. He was turned into a copy of Smith, and Smith actually got into Zion!

I think someone else can explain this better than I did, but man, I'm too tired to boter re-writing it. I got out of the cinema confused a bit like I was when I saw the first one, so I'll have to see this again. And man! I was holding my bladder all throught the movie! I got out of there, and I was into the toilet in a flash. Damn Jumbo size coke.
I also think that this movie is a little less 'anime' and 'mysterious' than the first one. It's more like a sci-fi now.

EDIT: I guess no one here seems to have seen it then.

NWR Feedback / Posting a news story for PGC...
« on: March 24, 2003, 11:15:27 PM »
I'm a VERY dedicated Nintendo-ist from Australia.
Now there's a Pokemon event being in Sydney this Saturday, and I was hoping if I could do a story on it. Since I;m from Sydney. Unless your Aussie correspondent Ben is doing it. I found out he's from Melbourne and all, and it might eb a but hard for him to fly over to Sydney just for a few hours, so is there anything I could put forward? The story is being collaborated on by PGC users Mario, Infernal Monkey (maybe) and myself, who also live nearby.  Photos would be included of course.

So is there any chance for an aspiring young Nintendo journalist such as myself to post this one-off special news feature?

General Chat / Game Music MP3 sites?
« on: February 19, 2003, 02:05:10 AM »
I wanna find some music for Diddy Kong Racing. After mentioning the game in my post in 'are you happy with your Gamecube' thread, i just can't get Walrus Cove, Frosty Village and Pirate Lagoon out of my head, and I need to do something. WinMX has failed to find some people with DKR MP3s, searching through Google is endless, and Dk Vine is now down. Does anyone know any sites that have MP3s (not Midi, cause I have them and they're not the same as the original) of this addictive game? OR, does anyone here have ICQ so I can download off them?

General Chat / Evangelion
« on: February 07, 2003, 06:45:52 PM »
No doubt the best anime out there.
I borrowed the two Evangelion movies (on DVD) from my sister's friend: 'Death and Rebirth' and 'End of Evangelion'. Death and Rebirth was just a recap of all the episodes, but it's End of Evangelion I want to talk about.

This has got to the weirdest Evangelion ever. I had heard of the basic story from a friend about three years ago.
The whole aspect of Rei's clones and Selee's/Gendo Ikari's plans get a little phsychotic at times. And when I thought that Fuyutski and those three technicians were gonna make it out in a happy ending, they all die by melting in all that acid crap that Rei's made out of. Ritsuko goes crazy and is shot by Gendo, Gendo himself is left dying by Rei, and Misato is shot by the army, left for dead to be blown up in the demolition of Nerv. Only Shinji and Asuka are left alive at the end, to die a lonely death because there is nothing left for them. The Third impact did occur after all.

The funniest part just has to be Asuka's sudden revival and her newfound 'invincibility', although short-lived because of the vulture-like Eva unit's 5-13. I envy Shinji because of what he would have got from Misato if they got out alive!

The movie itself was a mess. Toward the end was sterile and boring. Real-life footage and mindless dialogue used to represent Shinji's confusion as to what is reality.
But why did EVERYONE have to die? Why was the ending written with the destruction of Earth through the Third Impact? Why did the ever sexy Misato have to die?

The people who wrote this (GAINAX, etc) must have been on the very brink of insanity to write an ending like this. I know that this is probably what was expected from an Anime (which are far removed form the influences of Hollywood), but it was toooo far removed from what the first few episodes in the Evangelion series was about: Action, humour, fun, innuendo, ego and good vs. evil, which is what I fell in love with. Not mental instability, depression, questions on reality and humanity, and gruesome death as in the last few episodes and the movies.

The Special Features in the Death and Rebirth DVD are outstanding, and provide much needed answers about anything that you don't understand about the Evangelion Universe.  They provide detailed files on all the characters, all the technology, all the locations and all the conspiracies.

Has anybody else seen this movie? I thought it was alright, but JUST. What do you think of it?
