Nintendo Gaming / Re: Paper Mario: Sticker Star

I walked right by the lightbulb sticker too because, if I remember, you have to do something 3 times before you actually get it. I did it once, nothing happened so I moved on thinking I had already checked this area. Only when I checked a guide did I realize I had walked past it.

I'll be honest, about halfway through the game I began to rely on guides anytime I came to a dead-end. Between invisible blocks and solutions like the one above, I didn't want to spend hours searching for answers I'd probably never find on my own. Believe me, I don't like using guides which is why my enjoyment of this game greatly decreased the further I got.

And I can tell you right now, the chances of figuring out the exact order and timing of stickers to use during the final boss fight is between slim and none without a guide. First there are 6-8 specific types of stickers you  need to have with you (again, you have no idea going on which the 100+ stickers in the game you need to have), and you have to use them at certain times. Figuring out when to use them is probably doable if you know what you need, but I didn't feel like spending hours trial and erroring to figure it out.

Nintendo, you are way better than this.

I enjoyed your predictions segments in previous years quite a bit. The real pay off of course comes when you review those predictions and assess how correct/incorrect you all were.

Yes, that is always entertaining! You guys need to make your predictions.

I just bought it today since it's on sale, but haven't played it yet. I'll probably try to get through some other games before I dive into it.

I'm just waiting to hear how to subscribe.

As for RMC, I love his writing. His reviews are often lengthy but I enjoy the read. I'm glad to see him on the staff. I think he goes above and beyond to credit the sites/people that create the article he posts. The only thing I don't like about his site is the podcast. His friends/girlfriend he does the shows with annoy me to no end so I quit listening to them.

But yeah, Nintendo Force, I'm very much looking forward to this.

I think you are in for a treat. Earlier this year I spent 6 months playing through this (204 hours) and enjoyed every minute of it. I was doing every sidequest I came across so it shouldn't take quite that long to get through!

Easily my favorite game of 2012 and would definitely make my top 3 of all time.

I played the demo and you're right, it is exactly like Zelda II. It seemed fun but I've never even heard of this show outside of the game so have no connection to the characters. I did consider buying but heck, I have Zelda II already on my 3DS so if I get the itch, I can play that.

I'm pretty sure this is going to by my next 3DS purchase. I skipped the first 3DS game because of the mediocre reviews and I just felt over-saturated with the franchise. I just counted and I own 6 Harvest Moon games along with 4 Rune Factory games. But when I starting reading reviews/impressions I start getting the itch. They are fun, relaxing, rewarding, and you can get a ton of hours out of each game.

I couldn't agree more. Personally, I hate using guides and only use them as a last resort. But with this game, I'm making an exception. If I play through a level one time and hit a dead end, or face a boss one time with no idea which sticker to use, I'm going straight to a guide. I hit the exact dead-end you described and there is no way I would have found those invisible blocks on my own unless I played the level 10+ times AND would happen to find it by accident. Sorry, don't have time for that.

I do like this game (I'm about 75% through) and enjoy everything about it except these puzzles/bosses in which the solutions are obtuse. Kersti does give hints on some of it, which I thankfully use, but not all of them. I've probably used a guide 4-5 times so far, mostly when I don't know which sticker to use. I don't feel bad about it at all. I'm surprised a game built like this came from Nintendo.

6 hours is crazy! Mine took about an hour and a half. The two new games probably took 10 minutes each. Annoying but since they are one time updates for the most part, I can deal with it.

But if they cant confirm the glitch is real, they could be spreading warnings about nothing. I suppose they can add that they cant confirm the glitch is real. Maybe contact the publisher first to see what they say about any rumored glitch.

There are enough topics of the glitches on the GameFaqs forums to indicate these are not isolated. I take it you haven't played this game. If the reviewer didn't experience any, great for them although it makes me wonder how much of the game they played. Like I said, I'm taking precautions not to save in known problem areas (the PEC room is a big one) and I've still had the game freeze twice on me. Luckily, I still had my save after resetting. Anyone interested should know this going in.

I'm 30 hours in and it's a great game. However, I feel all 3DS reviews of this game should mention the freezes/glitches whether you experience it or not. There is enough documented out there that it's an issue. I've experienced 2 in my play through so far and I've been careful not to save in the puzzle rooms because the freezes in those areas can corrupt your entire save file. There is also only one save file you can use. Everyone should know this.

I've got all the normal pieces, but am missing a ton of pink pieces. There is no way I'll ever get them all. I mean with maybe one Street Pass a week and most of the time they don't have any pieces for you, it's about impossible. Heck, I'd be willing to pay 20 coins to get a pink piece just to have a chance.

As for the countries, I kept Street Passing a guy that was changing his all the time. I'd like them to be legit so I eventually just blocked him.

The only place I can consistently get Street Passes in my town is the mall. I carry my 3DS around with me everywhere (I'm about to hit 4 million steps on the 3DS pedometer) and yet it's still a big deal when I actually get one. If I go to the mall and walk around for an hour, I'll normally get 2-3, although there have been times when I've been shut out at the mall. I like Street Passing so much, that I've started going to the mall, just for that reason. I'll try to go once on the weekend during the busy time.

I spend all of my coins on puzzle pieces and probably only have 5 or 6 normal pieces left that I don't have. I think I have all the puzzles available in America unlocked. However, unless Nintendo changes the way you can get the pink pieces, I'll never complete most of them. While it's hard to Street Pass, it's even harder getting lucky enough to Street Pass someone that has puzzle pieces available.

I could not get through this game due to a glitch. There's a certain cutscene that freezes my Wii every single time. I finally gave up. It's not the disc because it plays in my daughter's Wii just fine. She beat it. And I don't even think it's my Wii because after this happened and I gave up, I had to send my Wii to have the disc drive replaced. I then borrowed the game from my daughter again to give it another try. Same result. I still have it and started a new save file but I don't know that I'll play through it again. I like the game but I hate the chase scenes because it's too hard to figure out where you are, and where you need to go.

TalkBack / Re: Seeking 3DS XL Protection For Long Walks On The Beach...

I like the look of your skins. But for screen protectors, I always stick with Hori. They are the only ones that don't leave air bubbles out of the ones I've tried in the past. I got some for my XL (as I have for every handheld I own) and you would never know they were on. I think I paid around $9 on Amazon but shipping brought it to $13. Still worth it.

My friend code is 4596-9491-5681 and my name is Jason. I'm one of the older people in this thread who got 100 friends early on. However, I've counted 23 that are no longer active. If you add me, send me PM and I'll add you as I'm going to start deleting people for more active friends.

Man I wish you could go over 100. I'm filled up. I need to go through and keep track of who I actually see on a regular basis, who still sends Swap Notes, etc. Probably more than half my "friends" need to be deleted so I can get more active people.

I'm now at 3.6 million steps. I take it with me everywhere and walk a lot. Even upgrading to the XL has not stopped me from carrying it.

Now I'm going for all of the treasures.  I have to admit, I've had to use GameFAQs for a few of 'em.  I mean, there was one treasure behind a hidden door that had literally NO indication that it was there!  Just a random platform where you would have to just happen to press up while standing in exactly the right place.

That was the one treasure I had to use a FAQ for. I played the level several times and couldn't find it. After realizing how to get it, I didn't feel bad for looking at all. That was totally unfair, and unless you cheat or get extremely lucky, you'll never find it.

Otherwise, I really enjoyed the game.

Great article. I hope the meds continue to work for you. It also highlights the fact that all of us born "healthy" should never take that for granted and work to stay that way. I always enjoy reading your articles, listening to you on the podcasts, and reading your Swap Notes...mostly dinosaurs and girls! Keep up the good work! (I'm Jason on Swap Note...the guy that occasionally sends out the "guess the music" notes.)

I recently went on vacation to Florida and had planned to do a day at Disney. I was looking more forward to the Street Passing than the actual park. We went to Universal last year and I only got 2 street passes the whole day which was disappointing. However, at the last moment plans were changed so we didn't end up going. We did go to a museum for kids called MOSI which resulted in 2 street passes, one of which the guy had nearly every puzzle piece available. But the trip down and back at the airports resulted in 0 street passes.

Also, in my previous post I mentioned some guy in my neighborhood changing his location to cheat at street passing. The other day I accidentally walked by his house and street passed him. Now he's from Puerto Rico. What a jerk.

After 25 hrs of play, I'd say I'm about finished with this. Most of my original impressions I stand by. The single player ramps up nicely. I took 3 characters and won all 8 cups with them, playing "pro" opponents. I tried playing "ace" opponents a few times and was never even able to win a point! I guess the only thing I didn't like, was playing the harder cups, it mostly came down to waiting until you got the purple power shot option.

Online got much better as far as getting matched up to your skill level. I definitely had some exciting 8-6 matches. The lag seemed to hit every 6 or 7 matches though. Very annoying.

The game has a ton of stuff to unlock/buy but because I don't like replaying the mini-games over and over to earn coins, I quit even trying.

I'd probably give the game a solid B...good but not great.
