Numbers seem...off. I speak only for my own experience, but the midnight Mario Odyssey launch was also the midnight Assassin's Creed launch and the midnight Wolfenstein 2 launch. At the store I went to, only one copy of Assassin's Creed was sold and about 35 copies of Mario Odyssey. Granted there are waaaaaay more PS4s out there right now than Switches, and games do sell for more than a 5-minute window...but I'd like to see the actual numbers.

It's worth noting that Evil Within 2 & Wolfenstein 2 were also #s 12 & 13, respectively. Not only does that really bother me as someone who really likes EW2, but one of these games is getting a Switch port & the other possibly could as well. If those games bombed, though, I wouldn't count on those games being ported.

Correct on both counts. The "no digital" rule also applies to Bethesda of the big six 3rd parties, and Sony publishes PSN rankings monthly.

Lego Marvel Super Heroes 1 was well regarded, I've only played the demoes for Pokken, but it didn't grab me.

I've played the original release of Pokkén a bit, not the new version. It's a bit barebones, in the sense that the "story mode" is very repetitive (beat these 8 guys, move up a league, rinse & repeat, with some Mewtwo stuff sprinkled in between).

Your other modes are 1v1 against local player or computer, a training mode, online battles (I think the Switch version also does 2v2 team battles? Could be wrong!), and a quite extensive but boring avatar customisation feature.

Online I found mostly dominated by people who wipe the floor with you in just a few combos before you get your third hit in.
That said, it's very easy to pick up since just mashing buttons will pull off any number of flashy moves. If your kid is interested enough to even learn the moves they'll find a pretty competent fighter underneath the flashy exterior too.

I'd probably ask whether your child doesn't mind doing a lot of the same stuff over and over, is into avatar customisation, and maybe how many of the Pokémon in the game they like. The selection is decent on Switch, with 21 characters (2 of which are reskins with different moves) and some unusual ones like Suicune and Chandelure which break the mold of bipedal fighters.

If there's a demo on Switch, try that option with your kid maybe. I can't give it a full recommendation outright, but at the same I realise Pokkén was pretty much the dream sequel to N64's Pokémon Stadium for me and all my childhood friends, so maybe a child would really love it.

I ordered Marvel Super Heroes 2, but I'm not against picking up Pokken Tourney DX as well in the near future.
So I appreciate the input. LEGO Marvel seems more like something I may want to play with her though than a Pokemon game... since I've never played a Pokemon game before.

I'm gonna take her to a store demo again soon as there are a ton more games on it now than last time I saw one.

my previous pic would be updated w/ Skyrim and that Lego Marvel game. I think that's enough for a Switchmas Starter Pack.

The holidays are coming.

If the Switch is doing 145k in the end of November, I wouldn't be surprised if we get several 200k weeks in December or even higher.

Damn if this holds up the Switch version might be able to get around 800k by the end of the year.  Combined with the Wii U version which was around 130k before it dropped of the charts, Breath of the Wild could manage to cross the 1 million mark in Japan early next year, which would be the first time a Zelda has done that since Ocarina of Time.

Probably about this time next year, but more likely early 2019 unless Splatoon 3 walks through the door.

I'd bet the farm they have a new Smash Bros and Animal Crossing out next year which will push the Switch over the PS4 in Japan by the end of 2018.  Smash Bros 3DS did over 2 million and Animal Crossing New Leaf over 4 million, so a Switch version of both will be huge, especially for Animal Crossing which hasn't had a new installment in 5 years now so the hype for a new installment next year in Japan is going to be insane.
