SHAME NINTENDO SHAME

THis is some weak second rate bullcrap we're putting up with. I SAY WE RIOT!

I mean, just how far reaching could these ramifications be? If Mario Strikers isn't possible globally, is Smash Bros?

Obviously you haven't dealt with lag issues before.

Some games work reasonably well with lag such as MMOs, but sports games, well, that's a different story.

Will be interesting how this pans out for import gamers like me.

I'm running an US Wii in Europe. Will my future online play be limited to other US Wii importers and to other "official" US Wii users? I doubt the "regional" restriction will work IP based.

Sucks for you especially since it's coming out in Europe first.

Damn. I was really looking forward to playing this one online with you guys. So it means that even with friend codes it'll still be regional, right?

It should be based on your system's "region", not your geographical location.

My systems region is NYC. It is a minor annoyance already when I want to look up weather for my region. Have to scroll half the globe to do so.. This feature is rather pointless anyway. Yawn.

Can't say I care much about Football games though. If that's all Europe gets first I certainly shall never regret my import decision.

I can see their reasoning behind it and, no offence, I'm sure that NoE spearheaded this effort because it always seems like their spearheading keeping regions.  I wonder if they are using the same servers their using for the VC?

If an FPS game can from a technical standpoint be region-free for online play, so can Mario Strikers.

There's no reason to do this really, just put a warning depending on your connection and the people that are going to play with you, and be done with it, let anyone play with anyone, just warn us it might not be the ideal connection when necessary.

They probably want to prevent exposure to foreigners that may tell people that other regions get the games earlier.

If they are using servers and not peer to peer for parts this could be a way to load balance broadly.

The funny thing with this is that if you can play games via wi-fi connection, you already have access to the internet and are very aware of how Nintendo likes to screw up his Europe and Australia fans in the first place.

Post of the year.

I read about this news earlier and noticed that (at least as far as I can tell) there's no mention whether this is only for random match-ups or if it includes friend matches.  If you can plan matches against international friends then there's little reason to freak out.

Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

I bet it's only for random match-ups.  Until we are certain that Wii games have their own independent friend codes, I imagine that regardless of online region gaming, it will be possible to override region blocking. If the codes do end up being game-specific, I imagine that there will be a difference in friend code generation in each region, so that one region's friend codes will be incompatible with another's.

Anyways, it's soccer/football, so let's riot, regardless.

I read about this weeks ago on gonintendo so I couldn't find a link but, I rember the guys working on striker saying that if you have their friend codes you can still can play with them no matter where they live but if you dont the match will be regional and that suck because beside canada and mexico there would be only 15 US players ever to play with online....

Edit: Found the link but gonintendo went boom
Here another confiring “soccer season" and worldwide match?

"We’ve never had to compromise anything that’s limited our Wi-Fi feature set"
Then:
"Wi-Fi in Mario Strikers Charged is region-specific so we can ensure a quality gameplay experience."

Contradiction much?

Playing 2 players locally on one Wii against 2 players on another Wii online.
Finally! A mention of LAN play with two Wiis.. hopefully all the multiplayer games after this take advantage of the feature. Whatever happened to single disc LAN play?

Lan play? Looks more like combined single-console and online play to me.

LAN stands for Local Area Network.  This is Internet play.

Yeah, the example was that two people were playing on each console, and that there were two consoles connected online.  Not a LAN at all.
