Is anyone else as excited as I am for the return of cartridges?
Probably more so. I've been thumping the cartridge card for over a decade. It's so nice to see them return.

I'd be shocked if Switch didn't have a touchscreen. My guess is Nintendo wanted to focus on core games and the unit itself, and any touchscreen use in the trailer would immediately remind people of Wii U. Smart.

I don't see there having been any need to show off functionality.  It is not like touchscreens are anything new in this modern age of tablets.

Nile does bring up a good point, though. What will happen to Nintendo's handheld lines?

Probably the same thing that happened to the Game Boy line when the DS arrived, unless the NS sells poorly.  In that case, there will likely be a 3DS successor in typical fashion.  Beginning next year, we are transitioning from the console+portable model to the hybrid+mobile model.
The DS always was the third pillar. :)

lol Minsc. I look through your posts and find you quoting me linking to this thread

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=41956.0

I go into that thread and think, "I posted this? :confused; ".

I need to reevaluate my life.

I sense a recurring theme.

That's great! Thanks for checking in still after all this time!

I make my rounds.  Such as checking out old sites like http://www.jammersreviews.com.

Get "N" or get "Out" :p

Oh when the time comes I'll Get N (to the hype).

Your username takes me back to simpler times.

I find living my life and not checking much anything video gaming is working wonders.  Being glued to the internet and a Nintendo fan must be painful.

Don't see myself buying the NX (or any console) but I am curious as to what the Big N will ship out.

I think Minecraft is boring and lazy (essentially making the player create thei own fun), but it would be nice to have it on Wii U and 3DS.

pokepal, why do you think a 3DS version couldn't work? There are iOS and Android versions and they work fine.

There was a time when creating your own fun was the norm.  It's called "using your imagination".

Everyone should now how to swim.  Go correct you parent's mistake and learn to swim man.

They did send me to swimming lessons, I failed the course. D:  I was too shy at the time and just never got around to it as an adult.  Some day I'll get around to it.

Edit:  Man though, the expression in the picture in the OP.  Gets me every time I load up the thread.

Minsc was the branding accident the scar or is it possible you melted your toes together? Though the skin looks too perfect for a burn. I'm actually very curious and serious. One of my friends had webbed toes, though her entire foot was webbed. As a child and even as an adult I had this dream of having webbed toes in hopes that I could swim faster. I guess it wouldn't make much of a difference at all since my typical toes are so cose together anyway.
The burn was from a coat hanger used to roast marshmallows.  The mark has all since disappeared.

I was born with the toes.  Believe it or not I never learned to swim.

For the record I don't think it's possible to "melt" toes together, especially with fire. ;)

Something tells me I was on forums previous these.  It's certainly been awhile.  My video game foruming began back in the glory days of IGN during Space World 2000.  Most of my time was spent there, especially when I began playing Phantasy Star Online with the IGN crew in early 2001.  Though I did frequent N2000 for news on the Big N. :)  It nice seeing NWR have a lack of a commercial feel as other sites became once they were gobbled up by larger corporations.

Other memories too.  I'm sure many of us were involved in some sort of gaming clan back in the day which have long since dissolved.  Mine was TFA, born out of PSO on IGN.  The guy who took the helm did try to make in into a gaming website but nobody came together and clicked like people did for NWR so it never went anywhere.  Our forums did manage to last until 2006-2007 but fell in to the abyss when I decided to stop paying for the web space.  Definitely a lot of changes over the years. :)

Ha.  Nintendo is doomed and won't even be around in 2023.

 :D

You know, from what people were saying back in 2003 Nintendo should have been third party by now.

 ;D

I don't claim to have ever been down to the point of others but, like anyone, I've had my rough times.  Something I do have which many younger people don't is experience which is something that only comes in time.  In order to gain experience you must have the willingness to venture into the scary unknown.  Here's a post I made on another forum, it'll help give a bit of backstory.

Hey there krambigmac,
Since you are you and have to find your own way I'll instead share my own story.  Well, parts of it. ;)

I was the shy and loner type.  Back in school I did not participate in school events and sports if I didn't have to.  Avoided getting up in front of the class (terrified me) and never went to the prom.  After graduating high school (2000) I spent about five years on the fence before enrolling in a plumbing program at college.  Prior to this my only work experience was on the family farm.  So yeah, no real opportunities to work on my sociability.  Here I am 25 years old, virgin, and with no clue stepping out in "the world".  I had a lot of learning to do and a lot of self imposed pressure on how I was supposed to be.  Learning to think for my self was difficult.  Making the phone calls and doing what needed to be done to sign up to this plumbing program took a lot of courage on my part.  I suppose one has to start somewhere eh?

Fast forward to working out on the job plumbing, more learning.  Since I was not well traveled I did not know my way around.  As a result I'd find way to avoid having to take the van to get materials, coffee, etc.  Oh it was nerve wracking taking the van.  On the job I had to learn to take responsibility, by this I mean owning up to my mistakes.  Really, it was one of the most difficult things for me to learn to do.

Throughout this time I discovered Facebook.  There were positives and negatives to this.  We all know what the negatives are so I'll focus on the former. ;)  Facebook allowed me to find avenues to "get out".  I wanted to go places and meet people but had no clue where to start.  The geek and nerd in me zeroed in on an Anime convention in Moncton, New Brunswick.  That was that, I went on to take my first solo trip off my home province of Prince Edward Island.  Definitely stressful but worth the experience and certainly needed.  The Facebook/anime convention combination lead to my first non-grade school crush.  Long story short it didn't work out the "way I planned".

The combination of the stresses at work, trying to "get" a girlfriend, finding places to belong, and not speaking of what I was bothered by left me mentally exhausted and beaten.  My breaking point was when she said no, my illusion of reality was finally shattered.  It was some rough times.  Not talking about my problems had become such an engrained habit I was physically unable to speak of them when the time came.

I went to the doctor followed by a psychiatrist and was prescribed a couple different low doses of medication over a period of two years.  Looking back I honestly can't if the medication helped.  Around April 2011 stopped taking the pills, without I noticed the absence of a certain "haze" on my mind.  What I found to work was dealing with my problems before things built up to the breaking point.  The last breaking point was late summer 2011, I haven't gotten close to that point since.  Barring a death in the in the immediate family I don't expect to.

Here's what I learned throughout my experiences.

-  The people around you are not as perfect as they seem.  They have their own problems, just like me.
-  It's going to be difficult venturing into something unfamiliar, no way around it.  Especially when you are just beginning.  The more experiences you have the easier life becomes.  You'd be surprised how a simple skill learned in one area of life can easily be applied to another.
- Being a 31 year old virgin isn't so bad.  I'm not stuck in a terrible marriage. ;)  Now I just go out an learn the social skills I need to.  It's no longer a matter of if I meet her but a matter of when. :D
- Life gets better if you build on your successes.  Looking back over the past six years I can mentally plot an upward graph of things I can do now which I could not before.  For example, two years ago I could hardly walk in to a bar alone without being overly nervous.  Now I'm learning to sit myself down at random tables and strike up conversations. It's awesome.
- You are never done learning.  NEVER.

Am I where I want to be in life?  Nope, not by a long shot.  There are still so many things I restrain myself from doing and old habits do creep.  The worst is behind me though.  The best one can do is neither live in the past or the future, only the present.  One can look to the past for guidance or forward to the future however the choices one makes in the present are the most important.

Edit:

Quote from: krambigmac on June 04, 2013, 06:43:45 amWell I had my first session Saturday after weeks of searching.  Lots of paperwork that I wish I could have completed beforehand rather than on her clock but for a first appointment, I guess it wasn't bad.  Going again this Saturday and then who knows.  Another good weekend visiting my and my wife's family but I can't seem to shake the Sunday evening blues.  I feel a little better just having an outlet so hopefully this will get the ball rolling for me.

I believe this right there is the most important thing.

Hey all,

I normally don't browse these forums but today I decided to log in on a whim.  What came as a surprise to me was I signed up back in Feb. 2003.  How the time flies.  I first started reading NWR back in the N2000 days.  The place has certainly grown a lot over the years.  One thing that really impresses me today is the quality of the NWR "off the show floor" videos, especially for the handhelds.  They completely blow away, year after year, the videos from larger gaming sites.  The camera work is great and the crowd noise never seems to be a problem.

Good stuff. :)

HD graphics are only an issue if a person chooses to make it an issue.  I play Minecraft on the default textures and think the game looks great.  That is a game where attention to "art direction" when building really pays off.

These initial 3D headaches sound quite familiar to the headache a person may get when trying a new glasses prescription.  Once the eyes adjust the strain goes away.

I'm all ready used to Wii U, it won't be a problem.  In all seriousness, people won't be calling it the Wii U.  People are lazy.

Here's what I called the consoles over the years.

Nintendo Entertainment System - The NES
Super Nintendo Entertainment System - The SNES
Nintendo 64 - The 64 (or N64)
Playstation 2 - PS2
The GameCube - The Cube
The Xbox 360 - The 360

Out of laziness, The Wii U - The U

The U sounds fine to me.

Here's my pixel x pixel visual chat creation.  Was quite time consuming to make.

Now, I have a question.  Why are only maybe two reviews for this game?  It's been well over a week since release and there's hardly been a peep.  Sega must have put out some sort of restraining order or something. o_o

I do agree, it have been nice if it was part of the action palette.  The original PSO on the Dreamcast was pretty much the same way.  A, B, and X could be customized and Y was used to access the visual keyboard, word select, and symbol chat.  PSO ver2 introduced a "quick menu" you could access by pressing Y when holding R.  This quick menu allowed you to quite easily change weapons, use items, and cast techs not in your action palette.  A couple easy to hit buttons on the right side of the touch screen would have been nice.  Oh wells.

PS0 does have some shortcuts.  L + Start will take you to the Item menu while R + Start will take you to the Equip menu.
