Kirby 3DS Gets a Name
« on: November 13, 2013, 12:15:10 PM »

Kirby Kirby Kirby is a name you should know!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/35966

The upcoming Kirby 3DS game has been titled Kirby: Triple Deluxe.

Previously announced in the last Nintendo Direct, Kirby: Triple Deluxe is Kirby's first new outing on the 3DS. No other information about the game was given.

I'm a staff writer here at good ol' Nintendo World Report, but I also have a Nintendo website at www.nintendogamerthoughts.com

I think the name was leaked back when the game was revealed, because I've seen it around before this.

I'm trying to figure out what Triple Deluxe is supposed to be. It could just be a sort of joke about 3D like how many games had a DS subtitle back when it was first on the market. Is it supposed to be 3 games in 1? Will there be 3 playable characters? The name doesn't really give you a clue.

It's probably a call back to Kirby Super Star, which was titled Kirby Super Deluxe in Japan. No idea what the "triple" might be for, if anything, but it wouldn't be the first 3DS game with a nonsensical name just to allude to 3D (Dream Drop Distance, anyone?).

"Triple Deluxe" sounds like the name of an awesome hamburger.

I can see the "3D" joke in it but it's kind of subtle.  I only noticed it when Khushrenada pointed it out so that's not exactly intuitive marketing.  At least stuff like "Digging Spike" or "Dawn of Sorrow" made some sense outside of the DS reference.  I'm going to assume that some element of this game involves three Kirbys or three enemies teaming up or something like that to justify the name.

The first thing I thought of when I saw the name was "Nice, we can call it Kirby 3D for short."

That can't be right. Kirby has angry eyes on the box art and that is a North American thing. He's happy in Japan. It's two months away and Nintendo has barely shown or spoken about it at all? We've known about Yoshi's Island and Mario Golf for far longer and suddenly Nintendo is just like, "Oh yeah, hey look, we got this Kirby game here. Ha ha. Almost forgot about it. Here play it while you wait for those other titles I guess. Either that or let us show you the source code of Mario 3D World and how we programmed is as that is about all that's left we haven't shown."

I just don't get it.
