TalkBack / Re: 3D Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (3DS) Review
« on: October 09, 2015, 01:36:11 AM »
Just played through it and loved every level. I don't get your complaint about momentum, would you just rather hold right the entire time? That's a game with no obstacles or deaths. Momentum is something you control, you should maybe think about that next time you play. Great game design doesn't age because you forgot something.

NWR Forums Discord / 3 reasons I am not excited about Mario Party 9
« on: April 24, 2014, 11:05:53 AM »
1) I've played it quite a bit, finished Single Player mode twice on my own even. It's a good game but would seem redundant when I have newer games, and older games less familiar. I'm just not in the mood for it today.

2) It seems a bit lazy for the game still to be the same. If I'm going to go back to it, Nintendo's got to add some content. It has to be free because my time is valuable as a resource and I'm already making sacrifices to be a gamer.

3) Where is Sonic? I don't even like Sonic anymore, but man those games used to be good. There's no reason this one thing from Nintendo shouldn't be exactly the same as that one thing that was good. If Sonic 2 can have a great soundtrack and be remade on 3DS, there's no reason that Mario Party 10 can't have online play.

Have we not got over the former-Nintendo fan butthurt yet? Is that still a joke or a lifestyle choice? Maybe everyone's still joking?

Attention universe! I do not find this thread exciting. As an active gamer, I'm so busy NOT doing things I have no time for this thread, or Mario Kart 8. Is there 8 games already? Struth almighty, where has the time gone. Mario Kart 1 is enough to rock my jollies.

Did you actually play this for more than 40 minutes or are you just assuming it has replay value? That one tune is also very bad, it sounds like a demo track that comes with those free audio programs to show off how to loop endlessly. The game is garbage and even the graphics struggle to keep up with the action.

*just shakes his head sadly*

Oh insane Japanese Nationalism...some things never change. Well, for the sake of the smaller developers Nintendo's been claiming to support, I hope Nintendo lifts this stupid restriction. It's not like Nintendo's in ANY shape to be making demands on developers supporting their hardware.
I'm sure Japan would say the same about this poor attitude right here. This almighty entitlement is why there's no communication.

The very first cutscene in the game is out of the character's POV too, because you don't have one. The entire structure of the "story" is based around multiple survivors with an overarching view. You're not important, you have to survive first.

The reason Shin'en got this done so easily is because that's how they roll. Wii U launch game? Finished in September. 60 FPS 3D Platformer? No problem.

Something like Little Inferno could be huge in Japan if they actually bothered. I think we just need better communication from all parties. Nintendo is dropping a lot of eShop restrictions in America and it's doing wonders.

TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Needs to Stop Caring About What Other People Think
« on: February 10, 2013, 01:02:10 AM »
Excellent article. A big problem is when Nintendo helps out a third party and they start depending on it.

Another example has surfaced recently in SQUARE-ENIX. They're sitting on Dragon Quest 7, Dragon Quest 10 and Bravely Default waiting for Nintendo to do all the work and publish the games overseas while they tell everyone how awesome Tomb Raider is. It's time we held Square-Enix accountable so Nintendo can focus on their OWN games. They simply can't police the entire industry themselves and we should STOP EXPECTING THEM TO.

I got the first God of War and wrote off the whole series because of the QTEs.  I cannot do that **** with the Playstation symbols.  I really don't even think in terms of buttons anyway.  The buttons quickly become "jump", "shoot" etc.  So if the game suddenly says "PUSH A!!!" I have to think about it.  It isn't "A", it's "jump".

The Cube controller COULD have been the best ever BUT Nintendo had to effectively throw a hissy fit during the design.  They originally did not have the Z button or the d-pad on their but added them due to requests from developers.  So they half-assed the request, throwing a Z button in practically a random location and cheaping out by re-purposing the tiny GBA d-pad (which probably saved them squat for money in the longrun since they replaced the d-pad on the GBA SP with a better design).  Nintendo is a stubborn company and they don't seem to do things they don't want to do very well.  If it wasn't their own idea they do it shitty, probably to "prove" that the idea was no good all along.  I don't know if that is on purpose or it's just sloppiness born out of a lack of motivation.

If Nintendo were the reasonable and accomodating company we all wish they would be the Cube d-pad and Z button would be actually useful, but they're not and the controller is a seriously flawed as a result.  In terms of ergonomics though, that controller just melted in your hands which makes the Wii's rectangular controller design all the more odd.  The infamous "NES" way of holding the controller is like the anti-Cube.

Is this 2002? I'm going back to sleep.

I never played Mario & Sonic at the Olympics, but while I'm sure it is great for what it is, its not the sort of Mario & Sonic game that SHOULD be made. I'm thinking something along the lines of an RPG, ala Super Mario RPG where Square and Nintendo worked together on that.
Completely disagree, an RPG would be boring and go against the main theme Mario and Sonic share which is fun gameplay, which Masatog delivers in spades.

Well, good luck Pale. If you thought the Wii had no games you're in for a surprise.
LOL, seriously. I have like 10 games for 360, and half of them I already want to get rid of.

Besides racing games, my favourite game is Condemned. Very well made game, any Condemned fan out there who's played 2 as well? I'm thinking of getting it but I read up on it and it sounds a lot worse, too much focus on magic and powers and crap apparently, the only thing I hate about the first is all the weird supernatural flashback fuzzy stuff, real buzz kill. It has a real nice survival horror vibe going on aside from that. Oh and the rooms that solely exist to say "achievement unlocked" **** off, i'm in a god damn pitch black abandoned place, way to ruin the entire mood. I turned achievements off for a REASON, why are you still telling me about them.

I got Eternal Sonata for cheap and it's actually interesting, but the gameplay is sooooooooo boring. Prince of Persia, was fun until the combat ruined it. UGH, worst combat ever in a videogame. Viva Pinata? LOL. Perfect Dark Zero? Surprisingly not bad. Kameo? LOL. Saints Row? Rather weak, but SR2 looks to be a lot better. GRAW? Absolutely ****ing horrible, one of the worst games i've ever played.

Only game i'm looking forward to on the system is Race Pro, which could take GOTY.

Only a complete idiot would buy RE4 twice, and Umbrella Chronicles is a good game.

You can't blame Nintendo for staying away from this after the complete DISASTER that was Disaster: Day of Crisis. It's one of the best games of all time, and nobody bought it. NOBODY. Press ignored it, gamers ignored it. What's the point? Nintendo doesn't care about the 3 gamers sitting at home crying about the state of the industry who actually know what a good game is. It's not a market. There is NO market for good videogames, plain fact. A game needs MUCH more going for it than quality.

Fantastic news. This game can teach stuff classical repetition and endless scales can NOT teach, and the most important thing is that it wont bore kids to death, resulting in much more productive learning. A good proper teacher can also use their OWN lessons on top of this, for a complete music tutorial. Perfection.

I like the idea of an 8-bit game but they gotta change that name.  Pole's Big Adventure?  What do you play as a big metal rod?  Nah, that name needs to be changed for North American release.
It's a penis joke you friggin dense moron, the game is one big joke. In a good way.

General Gaming / Re: Sony getting hit Hard lately
« on: January 12, 2009, 07:43:30 AM »
So if somebody do
Yeah rehashed clones of other big games sure are some of the best games around. Maybe just MAYBE the reason why they don't speak to anyone beyond the Sony faithful is they can find those experiences elsewhere in another (usually better) form? Also when did MGS become a Sony franchise? The only unique game in that list is LBP. What is funny even the "Sony faithful" aren't even buying games like Resistance 2!

Blah blah blah you hate Resistance 2...congratulations.  Maybe you're rather play Animal Crossing: City Folk, or Mario Super Sluggers, or the GameCube games that literally being re-released on the Wii, since they aren't rehashes whatsoever.

I guess that by default anybody that owns an HDTV - even people that don't play video games - are automatically hardcore and could never be casual.  Because HD anything is automatically hardcore.  Just making sure I know The Rules.
Difference is Animal Crossing and Mario Baseball were actually good games to begin with. Resistance is worse than Perfect Dark Zero. Motorstorm 2 is also the worst racing game i've ever played, but hey I haven't played the first. Sony are benefiting from less people playing these crappy games because then they'd have an even worse image and nobody would ever come back. Sony KNOWS they have **** all for games and their best bet is to advertise illusions and promises. They're smart, but this generation consumers are smarter.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: No More Heroes for Wii!!!!

Suda is a genius and everything has a meaning, you just don't get it. But that's fine. It took a while for Killer 7 to all click into place for me, but there was a point where I went "whoa" and went into deep thought. I can understand people taking everything in No More Heroes at face value, because the game is presented IN YOUR FACE, so you think everything is at it is. But it's not.

The game world is about Travis, not Suda. Everything in the game is an exaggerated reflection of the lifestyle he's trying to portray, in order to highlight it for people in a way that wont bore them to death. That's how Suda delivers messages and I personally love it.
