Zelda Triforce Heroes - Let's play dress-up!
« on: October 05, 2018, 08:21:08 AM »
I just got the game and haven't tried playing yet - but there seems to be enough interest here for some matchmaking.

Starting this thread so that we can see who is interested and figure out when people are available.
(I'm often available after 7pm Eastern during weeknights, starting next week.)

Yeah, I'd be up for it. I've been threatening to start playing this game and getting a forum group together to do it for over a year now so time to get it done. This and Federation Force which is also now getting some traction in the "You vs Khushrenada" thread.

Anyways, same as I mentioned in that thread, I'm going to be away over the long weekend so won't be able to do anything right away and if Pokepal148's MP:FF shows up on Tuesday than I'm probably playing it that night provided Mop it up is in. Earliest I can hook up with you would be Thursday evening if you want to set that as the launch date. Maybe I'll be switching back and forth between groups for MP and TH. Give the 3DS some long nights.

I just hope that you don't start playing single player and then get bored of the games and don't want to play multiplayer anymore. :P

Who can say? But I'm not willing to take that option off the table at this time. :evil;

I'd probably be up for a bit more LM2 multiplayer if I knew there wouldn't be so many connection failures. I dislike playing for 2 hours yet not being able to make much progress because of that. It just feels like spinning wheels. But, playing with actual people would still be a bit more enjoyable than the single player focus I took. I just thought I could earn that last E. Gadd badge and then retire the game and move on to another in my backlog like LOZ:TF or MP:FF.

I understand. I think it just goes to show one of the differences between us. Myself, I don't care about achievement type stuff, I just like to play, so it doesn't matter to me if a play session gets cut short from an error and no reward is given. I get how that is frustrating to the people who enjoy going for that kind of stuff and I think it's one of the causes of the lower scores I've seen for the game. I'm not arguing it isn't a fair criticism, as it is, just not one I care about meself.

I'm not always into achievements myself although I do like the sense of satisfaction from knowing I completely covered a game or what the developers wanted to challenge me with. It just seemed like an more reliable way to speed that process up without having to arrange a time to meet up and then still suffer losses of progress.

Thursday evening sounds great!  Let's do it!

What time (and timezones) are people available at?
I'm good from about 7-10pm Eastern, and hoping that window might work for others.

(Also need to play Luigi's Mansion 2 at some point - haven't gotten around to it yet despite really enjoying the original game. One thing at a time though.)

Anyone care to comment on timing?

Also, do we need to play solo before meeting online (because it's possibly I haven't had time to pop the cart in yet...)?

Well, Mop it up is usually good to start playing by 8:00 PM EST but we should wait and hear from her for sure as to when she's available. I would be ready today to start at 7:00 EST or after so whenever Mop it up is ready will probably be when we start.

As for playing solo, it's probably a good idea to just pop it in and play through it a bit. When I played Metroid Prime: Federation Force on Tuesday, I held things up a bit by needing to get through the opening cutscenes and training before I could join the others. Even then, it took a bit for me to adjust and get into the game. Pokepal148 had just picked up the game on Tuesday but he played through the first three missions on his own before he joined up so he had a good understanding of how to play and was ready. I'm going to follow that example and play a bit of this today before we join up tonight.

Also, have you joined up on to NWR's Discord channel? When I've playing games with other NWR users, it's the place we've been going to (specifically the multiplayer chat channel) to type and communicate as we're playing. When the time comes to start playing this then I'll be heading there.

Yeah I should be good to go sometime between 7 and 8, not sure exactly when.

I don't remember there being anything you need to play before jumping online. The levels are the same whether they are in single player or multiplayer, however the progression is tracked separately for them. This means that completing a world in multiplayer won't unlock the next world for single player and vice versa. In single player, you still have three Links, but the other two don't move and you swap control between them. Pretty clunky, I don't recommend it.

Personally, I think it's more fun to just jump in headfirst and start playing online with us. Who needs practice? Learn on the job! It's always a good way to gain experience or at least provide entertainment for anyone watching. It's a cooperative game anyway so you've not competing with anyone.

I wouldn't be free until later. Will see how it goes once my certification class is done.
That's fine because the game is limited to 3 players and we already have 3 lined up to start with. If one person wants to quit before the other 2 then maybe you can sub in for them.

If you haven't played or started the game yet (Stratos or ejamer) then do so. I got into the game today and there is a bit of stuff you have to do before you can start playing either online or in single player. It's a pretty basic game it seems but I'm curious to see what it will be like as we dive deeper.

You are limited in the costume you can wear at first and need to collect materials to unlock the others which are gained by quests in the dungeons. That seems to be the main hook. Also, have we exchanged 3DS friend codes? I know I have with Stratos and Mop but not sure if we've ever done that.

Since we aren't sure yet when Mop is ready to start and I'm not sure if ejamer has done the preliminary work to open the multiplayer mode yet, I am going to step out for a moment. Should be ready by 8:00 PM EST then. I'll be in Discord now. Depending how it goes for everyone, we may be able to start sooner but right now that is looking the best time to begin.

Wait what? That wasn't what I was saying at all!

That and there are also three challenges per level that I'm sure you'll want to go for. The game can be surprisingly challenging at times.

I just got kids to bed (after we played through the first stage of the first level together)... so am ready to go except for needing friend codes after getting a new 3DS.  Mine hasn't changed, but after my 3DS sat on a shelf for over a year I removed anyone who I didn't live locally - adding them back now.

Edit:  Err... only see Mop it up's code listed in the 3DS friend codes thread, so Stratos and Khushrenada will have to hit me up with their code directly?  Mine is 0001-3482-5503

Yeah, I was curious how that worked. I played the first woodlands area but when I went back it didn't open up a new section of that area that I noticed unless I had to actually select and play it again. I figure I have to go through the first 4 areas of a dungeon in order to then open up these other paths or challenges or am I mistaken?

Hey - did you know that the bear outfit I was picking doubles heart loss and gives you one fewer heart? Cool beans, huh? I probably should have read about the costume powers before playing with you guys online.

Good game though - I'm glad there were two strong players to drag my sorry carcass to the end. (Although you were pretty stingy about the post-boss piggybacks, IMO.)

Where's Pokepal and his Federation Force interest?

Also, ejamer. Not sure if you took a look or not but you can probably get a couple new outfits now. I popped in Triforce Heroes today because there is the daily treasure shop to try my luck at choosing a chest with treasure. After I went to Madame Couture's and I grabbed a couple items. Just need some more rupees and I can get a couple more. Also, there was a bit more story doing that.

I went into the castle to check about what's been completed and the list will show everything done as single and multiplayer together. You can then click at the bottom and see what has been done as single player or multiplayer themselves to separate them but they appear to overlap. Mop it up was saying what was done in multi wouldn't count in single but the game seems to take both into account.

Also, we've opened up the Den of Trials so that is something to also look forward to tackling. According to the most interesting character in the game, the clown Tripini, there is a rare outfit at the bottom of it. I wonder what that could be....?

So, did you want to do more of this today, ejamer, like you were suggesting?

Also, what are your plans in regards to completing the game? Is you planning to play more with your family to complete it? Does you want to progress through the whole thing with us? Does you care if we do stuff without you and use someone else? Will you need our assistance for completing it?

I'm able/willing to play, but in no rush.

As for completing, this is one of those games that I bought just to play with friends - no real goal to compete or complete, just to have fun.  So people playing without me is totally ok, and if others actually want to complete the game I'd try to be more serious about stuff like not walking off cliffs accidentally.

If people post a day in advance of when they want to play, I can probably free up most evenings for an hour or two to play. The hard thing for me is knowing far enough in advance to actually show up. :)

I think to get ejamer into Discord, we need to find him an invite link to the NWR channel. I'm not sure how to get that though. Is there one on the site somewhere?

Of course, there's an invite lying around: http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=52128.0

Well, I am serious about completing the game!  >:(  ;)  ;D

So, because of that, I'd like to tackle the rest of the Woodlands challenges and then move on to a new dungeon from there. I'm ready to tackle this anytime tonight.

Haven't progressed that much of late since no one else has really been around for awhile. First two dungeons are complete with all challenges done. Dungeons 3 and 4 I have completed by going through the 4 no challenge levels but still need to play the 12 challenges remaining. This has opened up Dungeon 5 but have not played anything in that yet. That's where my progress is at.

I hope you really enjoy the game. My opinion is a bit mixed, but the gameplay is solid if you have the right situation to play with a few friends (or fellow forum-goers). Download play is pretty good too if you have a couple of friends with 3DS systems.

Not really for me to decide on that. But I will be happy if you do show up to play it since I want to complete the game and waiting around for others to be free has been the biggest challenge to that so far.

Although, you probably won't like how I want to play the game (and how we've been playing it) which is slowly completing each dungeon and all its challenges and then moving on to the next to do the same. But that's basically all there is to the game. You can easily face the bosses of all the dungeons and then beat the game but there's nothing else to really explore or do except the dungeons and their challenges in order to craft costumes and then test their powers out in those dungeons.

Hey everyone - sorry for bailing today. We had a pretty major windstorm locally (ie: New Brunswick, Canada) last night that caused significant local damage including city-wide power outage, lots of fallen trees, etc.  Between losing part of our roof and having a really busy day dealing with a couple of other issue, I literally haven't had time to sit down until just now.
:(

We should have the roof fixed tomorrow, but I'll be very much playing free time by ear over the next week. Totally inconsistent, I know.

(Edit to clarify: we're fine and the storm didn't harm us in any meaningful way, just inconvenienced and kept busy with clean-up. At least it's unseasonably warm so we didn't get snow/ice.)

This game is honestly a bit of a hassle to play through unless it's with friends. Randos are idiots and the singleplayer mode is just a chore. Triforce Heroes just conspires to be a pain in the ass in a loot of ways, so many stupid design decisions in this game.

I've pretty much given up on playing the game outside of with friends. It's a fun time when it gets going but the game basically requires the planets to align for that to happen and if something goes wrong (ie someone disconnects) the game just throws you out. It's ridiculous and extremely frustrating.

Oh wow. I hadn't heard anything about that. That's rough. A couple years ago, I was in Langley, BC and one day in August the wind suddenly picked up and raged for a couple hours. Problem is that in August, there hasn't been much rain during the summer months so everything is rather dry from the high heat. So there were large branches everywhere on the roads, trees knocked over into property and power lines and large sections were without power for a couple days and some longer depending on the area. At least it sounds like it wasn't too bad for you which is good. Winter seems to have started where I am with snow falling this past weekend.

Not going to lie but you might be starting to get left behind a bit. On Saturday, I completed the challenges of Dungeon 3 and despite pokepal148's "help" have completed Dungeon 4's challenges on Sunday evening. That said, with how the game is broken up, we could still get together to play some of the later dungeons when you are ready to join and I think pokepal will still need someone to help him get through all of dungeon 3 also. Just let us know when you are available and I'm sure we can arrange to bring you along for some adventure.

Something came up this weekend (I know, that happens most weekends with me...and I'll confess a part of it was Diablo, but also IRL stuff) and I completely forgot about this game.

Stratos's addictions sure do jump around a lot. Will he ever land on a Tri Force Heroes addiction? Probably... when we want him to play Federation Farce...

Well, what the heck. I'm willing to play this four nights in a row. If you want to meet tonight, I'm up for tying to get through Dungeon 5 and it's challenges. If you haven't unlocked D5 on your map, we can go and play through the boss of D3 (which I think is the only one you did not beat when playing with Mop and I yet) and unlock it first.

Otherwise, I can't tomorrow and Thursday has been a recurring Federation Force night so I have to expect that to stay the same. So Friday would be the next night available for me.

Anyone up for the Den of Trials in Triforce Heroes?

Admittedly, I'm nervous about doing it and having my connection fail well into it. On that subject, here's what my wireless router currently is: the Netgear AC750 Dual Band WiFi Router. Just wondering how that compares to others particularly Mop it up since she never seems to have any failure happening. If I'm going to get another router then I want to know what I'm looking for in that regard so as not to get something else and have that also fail.

If that's what you have then are you sure it's configured properly? Do you have it set to 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz? Are you sure your service itself doesn't have outages?

Have you done a speed test to find out what is your ping? If not, you can just search for "speed test" or "ping test" to find a test site.

Mine Internet is fiber optics which is more stable in general. The ISP provided the router which I think is Zyxel brand.

I did a quick search and it seems other people have had this issue with both Netgear routers and also this model in particular. I would suggest performing a similar search and reading up on what other people tried to do to fix it, and maybe one of those solutions will work for you. A few I saw:

-Try changing the channel on which your network is broadcast.

-Check to make sure you have the latest / correct firmware installed, and if not, install it.

-If you haven't yet had it a year, they offer a one-year warranty. You could try getting a replacement and see if the new one works better.

Alright. I'm in. There's not a password I can think of that I can't later figure out to hack myself.

There is a firmware update according to my router login so I'm installing that now and will check on the speed.

"Do you have it set to 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz?"

According to my router, I've got both speeds set-up and going. My computer isn't set up on the wireless network. I've got a cable going out from my router and into it and keep it wired. But when I look on my phone or a nintendo system for a wireless network then there are around 19 others that can be found including my own.

Wow, that's a lotta networks. That could be an issue. In that case, I'd try changing the channel of your network to something else. There is a way to detect which channels the other networks are using, but I forget how to do that.

According to a site I just used, I have a 15ms ping, 80 Mbps download speed and an 8 Mbps upload speed. I'm afraid that means nothing to me.
By the way, I've since read that the Switch caps upload speeds as 8 Mbps, so that would explain why this is low, but it's what it's supposed to be so it's fine.

It's good to see others sticking with the game - things here got really busy (sick kid and extra time at work) pushing the game off to the side, and Triforce Heroes hadn't struck enough of a chord with me to come back to.

Did the story ever end up mattering, or did you just play through the stages as individual challenges?

Oh - it has been (and maybe will continue to be) a blast!  But that's because of the people - the game is just an excuse to get together and game/laugh/troll together.

Put another way: I'd play Monster Hunter solo, even though it's clearly better when played together with friends, because I like how that game plays. I'd never dream of playing Triforce Heroes without you (plural in this case), because you are the main attraction.

On the subject of completing games and now that Terra has the Tri Suit outfit, is there a time this week that would work for her and you (Mop it up) to do a little bit more messing around in that game?  I'm thinking an hour or so to try out a couple of the last outfits acquired and to mess around with the coliseum a few times to fully wrap up the Triforce Heroes experience.
