Just watched Timeline. It was OK. An alright action movie with a little bit of ridiculousness thrown in. I'd say 7/10.
I read the book before and had similar feelings about it. Both had parts I liked better. It did make me want to reread the book to compare the two since it's been a long while since I read it.

Finally got around to seeing Sherlock Holmes, good movie, lots of fun. I knew very little about the character going in so I didn't have any expectations going in. Aside from that chick (can't think of her name) from wedding crashers, good performances all around and I like how its set up for a sequel and which I'm excited for. This is one of those movies where the characters are so good, you wanna see more when its all over with.

8/10

Rachel McAdams. I've never seen what the big deal is. She was good in Mean Girls, that's about it.

i think she is hot, thats a big deal, like she seems like she should be like in some pub or tavern somewhere in Scotland, and some old dude comes out of nowhere, and he's like want to date my daughter...she's a fine lass!, and then out pops Rachel McAdams wearing a flanel tartan skirt and a white low cut halter top, and then you reply "is this heaven?"

eye of the beholder i guess

Indeed.

I just watched "9." Like most of you, I didn't get it either. Where was THE MACHINE getting all it's scrap parts to build robots? What the eff was it going to do with all those souls (actually, parts of one soul)? Why was the cat-bot even still around? What powers the machines? What's with the alchemical circles of power? A visual treat, but I totally didn't care about the plot.

Goya's Ghost 8/10 that was pretty damn good.

I just got the Watchmen on Bluray, the Ultimate Cut. The movie, I love. Added scenes and the mixed in Black Freighter storyline. Awesome. The box the set comes in: makes it even better. It has a magnetic seal on it similar to the X-Files collection. And the blood on the Comedian's pin is raised on the cover of the box. For $40 you can't go wrong. Love it love it love it. 10/10

I think we're just going to have to get over the squid. The set includes a 5 hour motion comic, so there's your squid.

Gamera the Brave

Awful movie, especially for somebody like me who loves the Heisei Trilogy. This newest and lone Millenium entry absolutely sucks by comparison. There are even a few Showa entries I'd rather have watched. Half the script consists of a little boy screaming "TOTO!" because that's what he named Gamera. The movie's opening five minutes is the best, showing what happened to the old Gamera. Otherwise, this movie is a waste of time.

Death Note

Japanese film about a note book where if you write a name in it, the person whose name was written will die. It has English Dubbing and is clever enough to make some rules and actually stick to them. I kept thinking about what I would do with a book like that and how out of control things would get if someone had a common name or something else that would just mess with the actual usefulness of such a book, but they came up with some pretty good boundaries that make sense. I was into it and there is also a sequel that they advertise at the end of the movie, so that has just been bumped up my Netflix list.

You're really doing yourself a disservice not seeing the TV series instead, which is very good (if a bit pretentious in places and goofy in others).  I haven't heard great things about the three compilation movies they made from it (which are what you're watching now).

didnt know there was a tv show.

edit: you were referring to the anime.
I just went back and read the reviews on Netflix and it seems that they made the movie a 2 parter and did a really good job of capturing the anime, even using the same voice actors for the english dubbing.

Not exactly the best way to watch it (I think the episodes available streamed there are subbed, and Death Note has a stellar dub), but here:

http://www.hulu.com/death-note

If you end up interested in the TV series dubbed, the whole series has been out on DVD for a while now.
