I have so far:
Valkyria Chronicles
Ico + Shadow of the Collosus
Mass Effect Trilogy.
Sonic 06 (hell yes)

And most importantly: Netflix, which has dominated my use of the PS3.

You can own every Metal Gear Solid game on a PS3, i'd say that's a good choice.  Maybe save MGS5 for PC or a newer console.

Other than that, I suggest:

Katamari Forever
Demon's Souls
Ultra Street Fighter IV
Uncharted 2
Flower
Journey
inFamous 1 & 2

I'm sure I missed some good digital titles that I've enjoyed too.

Ugh.

Checked metacritic to see if there was anything odd or unusual I could recommend. I know there are good games on the system, and games that many people loved it. But that list only reminded me of why the Wii was better (for my tastes).

Is the Tales of Symphonia collection still available cheap? It's a great game...

Sorry, I confused X and 9 (Mortal Kombat). However, it's an excellent game (both).

Lost Dimension is your run-of-the-mill turn based strategy game with an interesting hook. I'll let the wiki describe because it's kinda nuts:

Quote
Lost Dimension also has a visual novel-like system where the choices of the player determine the fate of the game's story, as well as its characters.[5] Of the games eleven playable characters, five are traitors; one is potentially revealed per floor. The characters which are traitors are randomly selected, and vary from game to game, although the main character is never a traitor. The player must use deductive skills to find out who the traitor each floor is.[6] During the "Judgement" phase of the game, the remaining characters vote on who to "erase", including the player. It is best for the player to successfully identify the traitor and convince others to vote his way, though if the player chooses wrongly or is ineffective at persuasion, an innocent character will be killed instead.[7] To determine who the traitor is, protagonist Sho Kasugai uses his psychic ability, "Vision", to look into the future to obtain hints on the traitor's identity. The player can also look into the thoughts of the different characters, as well as question them.[7] The player can rig teams sent out on missions to attempt to deduce who the potential suspects are, and use "Vision" for confirmation or denial. As the characters climb the pillar, five team members total will be eliminated in Judgment by the endgame, one on the first three floors, and two on the fourth floor.[8]

The judgement system forces you to use all your characters and part of the game's hook is that you can totally kill an innocent person, making the late game sections harder. So you need to be on point when it comes to finding out who the traitor is. It doesn't really work from a story perspective, but it's a very nice gameplay mechanic.
