The remaster of Skyward Sword won't just have Joy-Cons to go along with it, but also its own Amiibo.

Nintendo have revealed a new Zelda and Loftwing figure that will launch on July 16, the same day as Skyward Sword proper. It has not been announced whether or not the standard Amiibo MSRP will apply.

In the Skyward Sword remaster, the Amiibo will allow you to launch into the sky from anywhere - including buildings - and return to the same spot if tapped in the air. In a press release Nintendo confirmed that only the Zelda and Loftwing amiibo will be compatible with Skyward Sword HD. Other Zelda-amiibo will not have the same functionality as the Zelda and Loftwing, locking this feature behind this specific amiibo.

Well of course Nintendo put a sizeable Quality of Life Improvement in a remaster of a bad game behind the paywall of buying a toy.

Ability to turn Fi off, buy Fi Amiibo.

Ability to skip annoying fetchquest, buy Groose Amiibo.

Ability to skip fighting the Imprisoned 3 times, buy Impa Amiibo.

Out of principle, gatekeeping fast travel behind Amiibo is shenanigans. I’d be annoyed by this if I had any intention of buying Skyward Sword HD. The changes I’d even want for this game would require a full-on remake which is not going to happen.

No one's winning here. At the end of the day, it's still Skyward Sword.
