Before the E3 show floor opens, Reggie Fils-Aime and Shigeru Miyamoto will host a presentation to the media prior to E3.

Previously, Nintendo had announced that it would not be holding its regular, worldwide-focused pre-E3 press conference, instead hosting two smaller presentations, and using the expo to focus on upcoming software for North America. Despite this, Nintendo still plans on letting everyone know exactly what games are going to be on the show floor.

Nintendo will be holding the presentation on Tuesday morning, before the floor will be open up for all. After the presentation is concluded, the press members will be able to try the new software before everybody else. It is unsure at the time of writing if the presentation will be viewable for the public as well.

You guys have been quick on these news stories lately. Awesome!

Looking forward to this. My bet is the only difference between this presentation and the could have been old way is that this one will be worth watching entirely.

Exactly, no more sales data (they likely don't want to mention it much anyways since it's horrible).  So all we will get are the games.  Though it'll still move slow because Miyamoto doesn't speak English and Reggie is too deliberately slow in his speeches.   He puts so many pauses in there, I'd say they could fit 5 more game announcements into this presentation just with him talking normally.

I hope they announce soon if it's going to stream for the public or not.  It's a time-honored tradition for me to take off work to watch these presentations, through thick and thin, shitty presentations and amazing ones.

So if I am understanding things correctly, the only real change is they will focus on NA instead of world wide? Less baloney and more focus on the games? What was all the whining about then?

I hope everyone who went Kong Sh*& bananas about Nintendo scaling down on their E3 presentation and thinking only Nintendo Directs would be shown despite them clearly stating they would have 2 smaller presentations are completely calmed down now.

^ This especially goes for Adam Sesler getting everyone up in arms.

This sounds pretty damn similar to what they did in the past so I'm not as concerned as I was at first.  I honestly wonder if Nintendo could have said nothing about any change to their typical E3 procedures if anyone would have noticed a damn thing.  Originally it sounded like Nintendo was dodging E3.

With nothing going on in WiiU land right now, I wish they would just get started with the pre-E3 Nintendo Directs already. One for the launch window stuff this week and another in two weeks covering X, Yoshi and Wind Waker. People will still tune in for the new Mario come E3.

No, it was people just over-reacting. It was nothing to do with translation. Here is Iwata's original comment (made in Japanese and translated to English):

We decided not to host a large-scale presentation targeted at everyone in the international audience where we announce new information as we did in the past," Iwata said. "Instead, at the E3 show this year, we are planning to host a few smaller events that are specifically focused on our software lineup for the U.S. market. There will be one closed event for American distributors, and we will hold another closed hands-on experience event, for mainly the Western gaming media.

So people just over-reacted for no reason.

Here is the new way; similar to the old way.

I guessed as much that there will be some sort of Nintendo Direct E3 live presentation or some such that will be streamed that same time as previous Nintendo press conferences has been. It is nice to have confirmation. I assume that the presentation will be quite short (less than an hour) so that the press can quickly get their hands on the new software.

The fact that this is pre-E3 is what really makes a difference to me.  Prior to this I thought the smaller event would be held with little fanfare behind closed doors during the show.  The important thing about it being pre-E3 is that it will create the headlines around the same time as the other guys do, instead of getting buried within the from-the-floor-impressions.

Seriously, indicating the exact timing of the event made a huge difference in my view of it.

In addition to this, it's always my time-honored tradition to watch live reactions on YouTube.  If that still happens in some fashion, I'll be completely satisfied.

A lot of the overreacting did have to do with the perception that having a press conference is E3 attendance for console manufacturers and larger 3rd-parties.  Nintendo's approach changes the nature of an E3 presentation by giving audience-specific ones, and given the practicality and "to-the-point" nature of this approach I wouldn't be surprised if other companies followed suit in time.

The sad thing is, the only reason this is news is because the internet overreacted to a misunderstanding.  This announcement is just stating who will host the event they already announced.
