In case of a daughter i would choose "Zelda" as it already exists before even Nintendo used it and it wouldn't look foolish. But for a son, Nintendo still needs to come up with a name that would make sense in using it.

I ain't never having kids.  But if I did ever become stupid enough to do so, such as losing my frontal lobe or something, I would most likely try to give them Japanese names.

Robin Williams did name his daughter Zelda after the character. He did state that he is a big Legend of Zelda fan (as well as Half Life and Halo) and loves all the games of the series.

Samus would make a good girls name, as its not too out there, yet still cool and only nintendo fans would know it, unlike everyone who knows mario, most people call samus 'that guy from metroid'

Someone in my town named their kid 'Leon', after the RE2 character, or so I've heard.

Y'know, EVERY time I have to come up with a name for a character in an RPG or something, I -always- name them after some video game character. The more obscure, the better. Who remembers Linda Lash?

Link is definately my top choice. It's sweet. How abouts Roy, good ol' Roy. From Fire Emblem. That's sorta Nintendo isn't it?  Ness is a interesting name. Maybe Peppy from Star Fox. Can I have the correct pronuciations for Saria and Malon? My friend and I argue about the names all the time. He doesn't have a great record of correctly pronouncing names in the first place so I wanna see if he's right.

Names are a difficult thing in that everyone will have their own interpretation, and nobody can really declare a winner unless the person who thought up the name actually speaks it.  However, in this case, I think it's pretty clear cut.  Zelda is a Japanese game, therefore, Saria would be pronounced in Japanese fashion.

Sah (like the first part of salad), Ree (Like Rio De Janero), Ah (as in apple).

Sah Ree Ah.

Malon is more difficult, in that it's an English name, rather than a Japanese one.  I would do it like this though:

Mah (like saying march), Lon (either loan, or talon... take your pick.  I am more inclined to pronounce it like talon).
Once I had, a little game
I liked to crawl back into my brain
I think you know the game I mean

I personally find that naming your kid after some kind of character is generally pretty cheesy and somewhat corny.
I mean, imagine your kid named Buzz Lightyear, Evil Knievel, Goofy or Lara Croft, thats just totally gaye.
Its ok though if you name your dog something like that, actually thats what the thread should be called, would you name your pet after a Nintendo character.

It's only cheesey if you name your kid "Lara Croft O'Brien" (<-- my last name).  Naming your kid "Jenna" or something sounds normal, but it could have deeper meaning to you. (If you really loved Golden Sun or something, but you get my point.)

Even naming your kid "Saria" is fine, because it's a cool name, and people will assume it's an actual name from a certain culture or whatever.

I've always like "Petra" form the book "Ender's Game" but it doesn't sound good with my last name, because the first name ends with a vowel, and my last name begins with one.
