Movies & TV / Re: Better Call Saul
« Last post by Adrock on Today at 12:34:09 AM »
Well, well, well, if it isn’t the consequences to my own actions.

***Unmarked Spoilers***

That was one hell of a mid-season finale. I did manage to rewatch Breaking Bad, El Camino, and the first five seasons Better Call Saul before diving into Season 6.

Unfortunately, the two majors deaths were spoiled for me due to video titles I wasn’t able to avoid. I kind of figured Nacho wasn’t going to make it. Thematically, it works. Nacho escaping ABQ would be retreading ground. Instead, his death provides an extra dimension to Mike taking Jesse under his wing. Even though Mike didn’t live to see it, Jesse got away (eventually).

Nacho’s final monologue was so good. Did it remind anyone else of the scene in Ozymandias when Walt tells Jesse that he let Jane die? Seemed intentional to me. Also, every single character in that scene ends up dead. My only criticism is the gunshot felt off. Nacho’s head doesn’t whip back so it lacked force which is odd considering…

The headshot to Howard was especially brutal with his head slamming into the coffee table as he fell, a clear throwback to Chuck hitting his head on the print store counter. Howard’s murder was weirdly surprising. I kept waiting for it yet I still didn’t see it coming because it happened so fast.

Anyway, Lalo is a much better final villain, brilliantly played by Tony Dalton as he shifts between charming and sociopathic with such ease. After rewatching Breaking Bad, Season 5 is definitely the weakest season (largely carried by the final three episodes) mostly due to how cartoonish and one-dimensional Uncle Jack and the generic Neo Nazi gang are, introduced and killed off in the same season. Alternatively, Lalo was given far more time to develop. He’s arguably as good a villain as Fring (dare I say, better).

We’ll see how the final six episodes shake out. I’m particularly interested in how the Gene thread wraps up. Unless they whiff the ending, Better Call Saul is a better show than Breaking Bad (which stalled a lot more than I remembered) though they’re both essential viewing.

Yeah that game was super close.  I was posting on SS&R about the Ham hire and missed the first 3 quarters.  Back and forth game the last five minutes.

The other good thing about this it is a 4 year deal.  Last time a head coach had more than a 3 year deal was with Phil Jackson.

So his contract runs through AD's current contract of 3 seasons.  So even if LBJ signs a 1+1 extension there will be cap space and development throughout the remaining years of Ham's contract.
3
Finally, a close game in the Eastern Conference Finals. Big Heat win in Tiddy Garden.

I’m pulling for a Warriors vs. Heat matchup. I’d probably still lean Warriors, but I do want Jimmy Butler to get at least one ring.

Yay, the Lakers signed Davin Ham to a 4 year deal!!
Very happy with this hire. Long overdue head coaching opportunity for Ham. I’m hoping he can reign Westbrook in, get him to slow the hell down. I don’t want the Lakers using any more assets shedding Westbrook’s expiring contact so let’s see if Ham can get the most out of him.

It is now time to begin our final four questions for the panel. First up, I would like to know what Luigi Dude thinks about this. Which streaming service has the best audio/video quality?

I told my son Bret that there are times when life is good. Money. Women. The world is your oyster!

But there are also times when you are down on your luck, alone and the world seems to be against you.

Then I gave him the best advice possible: Remember that you're a Maverick and as long as you have a good hat to wear, you can face anything and survive until the good times come along again!

Yes I am hoping for the same result of making it to game 7 in the east just so if the Celtics make it to the finals that the Celtics have less time to rest and less of a chance from winning their 18th chip.   They can not pass the Lakers so soon after the Lakers tied up the chip total!!!

The Office NWR edition

Starring:
  • Bungle4 as Michael Scott
  • Luigi Dude as Jim Halpert
  • Khushrenada as Andy Bernard
  • NWR_Insanolord as Dwight Shrute
  • Mop it up as Pam Beasley
and guest starring James Garner as "Bob the Cable Guy"

Every year Michael gets a few thousand dollars from corporate to improve company morale. I suggested we get some new chairs since these are really uncomfortable but he insisted that the TV was the better idea. The truth is he just really got into that show Entourage. I don’t think he knows that it won’t even have HBO Max. Also, why is Jim always looking at me when I am eating an orange?

Michael says that putting a TV in the break room will increase productivity which just demonstrates how brilliant of a manager he is. I figure the TV will be there 2 weeks before Jan finds out and has it removed. But that is plenty of time to have some fun. I rigged the TV to give an electric shock if someone starts up the Peacock app. Then I told Andy that there is a Cornell Acapella competition on Peacock and I told Dwight that Battlestar Galactica is on there. That last part is actually true by the way.
Pam? Yeah, have you seen the way she eats an orange? It is so cute…don’t tell her I said that.

Big tuna thinks he can trick the Nard dog but I think we all know the Cornell Acapella playoffs don’t start for two more weeks. No, but I am planning to use the new TV. Back at Stamford I was quite the COD player. Ever since I routinely watch players on Twitch to try and beer myself some new techniques. Once I show Angela that I am better than Dwight at first person shooters, she is bound to go out with me.

I was an electrician for 17 years, but had to stop because my heart just can’t take the mild electric shocks you get in that line of work. I am now a cable service technician for the greater Scranton area. I mostly uninstall cable these days. When I asked Mr. Scott what he wanted, he just kept giggling and saying “Skinemax”. Is he really the manager? Oh well, in 4 more days I will retire and none of this will matter.

Michael is way too coddling with the staff. If it were up to me none of these people would even be allowed to watch TV at home. Jim did tell me about Battlestar Galactica, like I would actually watch that through streaming when I have the whole series on Blu-ray. No, the only streaming service I use is Apple TV and that is because it came free with my iPhone. I have been watching the Great Bear Stakeout and laughing at how little everyone knows.

Dunder Mifflin is like a family, and the cable guy was like our adopted child that died while trying to fix the TV…which was his only job. I mean kids shouldn’t be doing such dangerous work. But I think that death is a part of life…maybe the most important part, and that is why we really gave the cable guy life today. I think the real lesson to learn here is that you need to watch where you stick your fingers…that’s what she said.
