Internet Petitions can work.

I remember there was one to get a Zelda game on a gold cartridge.  Many gamers participated and demanded gold, and *WE GOT GOLD* in the end.

The problem is, there are too many of them... too many stupid and pointless ones.

For an e-Petition to work it needs to be headed by people who will take the time to send the thing off to the people who matter.

_

On a related note, I heard that Planet GameCube was officially against or unsupporting of the Starmen.net petition for Mother 3 (which finished this February with 30,000 signatures.)  Why was this?  Did PGC just think it wouldn't work?

General Chat / RE: nVidia vs ATI
« on: June 14, 2003, 12:32:09 PM »
nVIDIA's drivers are easier to use and update than ATI's.  In addition, nVIDIA drivers provide more features.  The new ones adapt to what you are doing, so they perform better.  This is why nVIDIA was ACCUSED of cheating on 3DMark 2003.  The drivers adapted to the tests.  In actuallity, this is not cheating... ATI simply cried foul.  If ATI was smart, they'd of just made better adaptive drivers.

Isn't an LCD going to be progressive scan by default?  [Why would a LCD be interlaced?]

That's not exactly 100% true... it's quite debatable these days.

As for the ads, having annoying ads vs. having to pay for the site is an easy question... the annoying ads are better.  And anyway, in the case of IGN, they started a pay service and they still had annoying ads, so the user didn't win there at all.

Translate each WORD, then put together

So translate...

First

Shooter
Chief
Executive
Officer

Not sure about cel-shaded.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Play GC through a laptop?
« on: June 13, 2003, 01:25:44 PM »
You need a TV Tuner device for the notebook that will work with your computer and it's video card.

These devices go through USB, and will run you roughly 100 dollars, mabye less.

They are good, they let you do video/sound in, and then cable tv in as well.  Some have more features.

Also, using an LCD flatscreen for playing GCN looks nice.

I'm at the point where I don't read PGC much anymore because the ads are getting nearly as bad as IGN.

I can tolerate pop-up's, banners, vertical, even flash ads that are stationary... but moving, takeover, and sound flash ads I hate.

NWR Feedback / RE: Trivia Server Problem
« on: June 11, 2003, 03:57:09 PM »
Okay, here's all the information you need....

To use Java Chat (which sucks): http://chat.cjb.net/planetchat (PGC also has their own chat link on the page, but it that fails to work, the link I gave might.)

To use a Client, like mIRC-X, Trillian, or ChatZilla:

1) Server = irc.mircx.com or irc2.mircx.com or irc.simon1.net or irc.planetjurai.org
2) Port = 6667 or 7000
3) Password = NONE -- Leave Blank
4) Group = mIRC-X [only applies to some clients]

Yeah, mIRC does that sometimes, unless you turn on multi-line edit boxes.

Lot's of newer and even expirenced users do that.

Talk to StrikerObi, WindyMan, RickPowers, S-U-P-E-R, or another PGC Op from the chat to ask to be unbanned.

Here's what you do...

Send the GameCube to NOA after calling customer support.

Or find an authorized repair center.

Apparantly, Revolutions will focus on death... death of either The Matrix or of the people in it, we don't know what yet.

General Chat / Image Hosting
« on: May 16, 2003, 06:09:57 PM »
Here's a guide I wrote...

Guide to Getting Your Image Online

Have The Image On The Computer
First, have your completed, final image on your computer.  Make sure you can find it later.

Find A Place to Upload It
To upload the picture you can do a few things:

1. Use a signature/image hosting service like sigup.com - Good.
2. Use ISP given webspace - Good, you have control over it.
3. Use webspace you own - Good, you have control over it.
4. Use free sites like Geocities, however, when you upload the picture, rename the extension to .txt - Bad, not as reliable, and you may be breaking terms of service on some free page sites.
5. Ask someone if they are willing to host the image - Ok, but the person could remove the picture later.
6. Upload it to a forum (get admin's permission to use on other forums too!) - Ok, remember the forum could close or something.
7. Beg Planet GameCube to host your image - VERY VERY BAD! They can't really afford the bandwidth, and asking is a waste of not only their time, but yours as well.

Link It!
Find the URL of the image that is uploaded.  Copy it.  Paste it where it needs to go for your signature or avatar.  You should be good to go now!

---

Hope this helps out!

General Chat / The Matrix Reloaded......Anyone seen it?
« on: May 16, 2003, 05:57:15 PM »
The Matrix Reloaded is a great film, with plenty of action and excitment, as well as mystery.

The film's action is great, and the digital effects are excellent.

Sound is great as well, but make sure the movie theatre has Dolby Digital EX Surround, or you won't get the full effect.

The movie is excellent, but after seeing it, you better be ready for REVOLUTIONS in NOVEMBER!

Nintendo Gaming / GCN-GBA Connectivity: who cares?
« on: May 16, 2003, 05:55:42 PM »
This connectivity is a major innovation.

It is a major reason to get GCN/GBA.

Connectivity between the two is great.

Many gamers care; Nintendo cares.

General Gaming / RE: Here's an E3 countdown clock I made...

It's an okay clock.  Sure a better one could be made, but with programming you can almost always make something better, more efficent, etc.

Though everyone might want a heads-up on this.

GameCube Advanced has interviewed two Planet GameCube staffers, Jonathan Metts and Rick Powers.  The interviews can be read right here, along with the interviews of Steven Kent, Ethan Peason, and Tim (Cube Europe director).  Plus there are a couple others.

Everyone will want to know this (PGC hasn't posted it yet, but hopefully they will.).

METAL GEAR SOLD 3: SNAKE EATER -- A teaser video HAS LEAKED.  The 1 minute, 15 second trailer is just 2.13 MB in size, using Windows Media Player 9 codecs.  You can get it right here.

NWR Feedback / Colors
« on: May 09, 2003, 05:37:17 PM »
I understand colors access was disabled due to some users messing up their colors.

Was this really needed?  Most people are able to select colors for a forum that won't screw it up.  I hate it when a few ruin the goodness for all.

NWR Feedback / RE: Irc Server info
« on: May 09, 2003, 05:35:20 PM »
You can connect to irc.mircx.com irc2.mircx.com and irc.simon1.net as well... the servers are linked.  The port can also be 7000 if 6667 won't work.

48
Well, for one you don't need to sneak up, you can just walk in front of the convention center and take pics.  Dur.

As for actually going inside that's different.

General Chat / RE: Get your avatars here!
« on: May 02, 2003, 05:20:49 PM »
Another way to get icon hosting is use some of the forums that let you upload an avatar and then link back to it.  Make sure it's okay with the administrators at the other forums, however, some don't like the bandwidth being used.
