TalkBack / Re: New Super Mario Bros. U Will Receive DLC in the Future

@TJ

mmm, no.  Pizza is a fairly standard thing: cheese, crust, sauce.  Games, on the other hand, have no such standard and thus a "complete" game is entirely subjective.  There's nothing wrong with that.  But, it becomes problematic when the ones SELLING the game are the ones telling you what should and should not be expected in the "complete" package.

For instance, in Mario 3, you could battle a 2P if you landed on the same space.  Did it contribute to the game? No. Was it fun? Maybe.  Was it extra? NO.

Some DLC can be done well.  And Nintendo's approach to DLC may very well still be some of the most virtuous.  But, since the entirety of the concept is designed to squeeze the customer's who care most, it's just not cool.

If it was more about "supporting a product" or giving more to your loyal fans, you'd see FREE DLC a lot more.  But, we just don't.  So, it's purely about money. Which can also be OK, I mean, gaming is a business.  The problem with this particular VERSION of the business is that we won't have that content when the machine it's on eventually dies.

Conversely, my wife and I just played Mario 3 a few weeks ago (on my SECOND NES) - battle stages and all - at no extra charge.

@EasyCure

Exactly.  A slippery slope.  When the foxes guard the hen house, things are NOT going to turn out in the hen's advantage.

That's it.  Nintendo has finally caved completely on DLC.  I can't stand DLC, let alone paid DLC.  It's just a rip-off plain and simple.

It essentially boils down to a game no longer costing $60 but costing $80.  AND, that extra slice of the game doesn't live in the box with the disc.  So, if your system dies and the next one can't import? Or the one two generations down the line? That content, which you paid extra for, is gone, son - and through no fault of your own.

My most highly anticipated Wii U game just got tarnished. Disgusting.

Entered when Nintendo told me about it via Facebook.

Do want! *fingers crossed*

Whyyyyyyyy????!!!!!

Seriously, though.  I, uh, I really want a white 3DS XL in NA so I can ask for one at my next gift-receiving occasion.  ... or green. I'd take something in a Luigi-green.

Between "Wii U" and "WaraWara Plaza" I think Nintendo may be testing the limits of ... what's the word.... soft-sounding terminology?

... I do like the name though.

@broodwars

I was 95% kidding.  When have I ever been known to make a point with "ohhh SNAP!" ... for that matter, has anyone?

Nice rant, though.  High drama indeed!  :P: Take it easy, my man.  :)

It's weird that they would choose to remake that Dragon Quest, though, when it's apparently not very fondly-remembered.  I would have figured DQ8 from the PS2 would have been the logical choice.
I'm not sure how that's more logical than releasing the games in order.

GBC: I, II, III
DS: IV, V, VI
3DS: VII, VIII
4DS: IX, X?

ohhhhhh SNAP!! broodwars gets served again!

TalkBack / Re: All of the Wii U Critics Are Right (and I Don't Care)
« on: September 25, 2012, 12:22:10 PM »
I guess I just love good video games too much to care about Nintendo's "7-year-old" non-gaming features.

Plus, when Nintendo adds features, it doesn't also try to add its $@*$ up my $*#.  So, I appreciate that!

18
@ejamer

um, what? You say yourself that Nintendo's assumption is perhaps justified.  So... that's why they do what they do!

We are lucky we got any cards at all.  Normally stuff like that skips regions that don't care much about them (like ours) all the time.  People should be like "hey, thanks NoA, ya didn't have to do this, and ya didn't try to skim us for any money on it.  Thanks for the solid."

But, instead, articles like this simply encourage folks like beaks022... who wants to boycott the Wii U over something Nintendo gave away for free.   ::)

19
I know, effing NoA... releasing something for free in a market that was never truly going to care about it.  What the hell is that? Some kind of bone they are throwing us? EFF THAT! It's like you said, they should be selling them to "make money" on it.  That way, an extremely small percentage of the audience could "collect 'em all" at prices much more reasonable than eBay.

That way everyone could have them and they wouldn't be collector's items! Win-win!  So, let's give one more middle finger to NoA for "dropping the ball" yet again.  When will they ever learn?

TalkBack / Re: Nano Assault Neo Announced for Wii U eShop

@Neal

Oh no, I wasn't sharing any theories at all.  Just making a (perhaps humorous) observation. Nothing more.

I am also super excited for more Nano Assault.  I absolutely loved the game.  It was even the subject of one of my articles on Negative World.  [LINK].  I must have played through the whole thing at least 4 times!

I'm thinking/hoping Neo is a new game.

What does it say about the industry when we have to "think/hope" that a game with "neo" in the title is something "new"? =P

Loved Nano Assault!

I would be interested in this game if it were a true sequel.  Not some HD remake.

Also, why not 3DS!? The 3D in that game was SOOOO GOOD!

Any chance it could also come to the 3DS eShop??

TalkBack / Re: Casual Encounter
« on: September 12, 2012, 12:52:46 PM »
I'm sorry, but could we please try and be smart enough to talk about market focus as "shifting" and not "abandoning" in a 180* direction every other day?!  People still talk about the Wii U as "abandoning" hardcore gamers because it isn't powerful enough, doesn't have multi-touch, doesn't focus entirely on M-rated titles, etc!!  Nintendo can't be blamed for "abandoning" everyone!  (Especially when their products still sell as well as they do).

Yea, maybe Nintendo isn't going as blue ocean as they did in the past. Maybe they have good reasons for that.  Maybe it will get them a longer, slower burn instead of a huge explosion like the Wii.  That does not indicate the "abandoning" of anyone.  Maybe the Wii Sports crowd will get 2 games a year instead of 4.  Oh, no!  ... sending a smaller rescue ship is not abandoned.  Sending no ship is abandoned.

I'm so sick of gaming journalism constantly being sensationalist at the cost of reason.  Sorry to single you out, Scott, I don't recall having issue with anything in particular you've written before, so, do your best not to take it entirely personally and realize that my outrage is due to a larger issue, not just your one article.  That said, I have faith all gaming journalists can do better, and that just happens to include you.

@Phil

Agreed. Spot on, sir.

Can't waaaaaaait!  This is my Wii U killer app so far.  I know, it's not a trendy choice.  All well.  I think Scribblenauts U might be my second choice.
