Nintendo Gaming / portable wii
« on: January 25, 2007, 12:23:07 PM »
something kind of neat that i found(i didnt see any other threads about this). a portable wii. i dont know how well it would actually work, but it looks pretty cool for being homemade.

An exert from the page:

Quick specs, this unit has a built-in close-range sensor bar, stereo sound, Gamecube port, 16:9 widescreen LCD, A/V jacks, port for external stock sensor bar, built-in power supply and even a compartment for the cord. It measures 8.6" wide, 7.7" long and 2" total thickness.

and the site:

just scroll down the page a bit for the pictures(and a making of).

edit: it actually seems to work pretty well. the site has a link to a video of the unit in action.

Nintendo Gaming / Cheap development costs=more games
« on: May 05, 2006, 02:48:36 PM »
gamespot has an article up with a few quotes from THQ president and CEO Brian Farrell, where he mentions how easy wii is too develop for and how cheap the development costs are compared to ps3 and xbox360.  He says that development costs are almost one quarter to a half of the other consoles. i would expect that with costs like that, it will be a give in for third partys to give better support to wii then they did the gamecube(which already apperas to be the case).

maybe nintendos strategy will pay off?

Nintendo Gaming / Star trek: Tactical Assault
« on: April 27, 2006, 08:55:29 AM »
finally a star trek game for a nintendo console, and even better its based around the original series! I've waited a long time for a star trek game....its too bad the screenshots look so crappy. i know the ds is capable of more than that. i'm thinking the game will make extensive use of the touch screen though.

Nintendo Gaming / Sonic Revolution
« on: January 19, 2006, 02:57:42 PM »
ign has an article up saying that a completely original sonic game is in the works for revolution. sega hasnt actually confirmed it yet, but good news none the less.

off the top of my head though, i cant think of how a sonic game would work with the rev controller.

I dont know why companies are releasing so many handhelds at the moment, but heres another one.

it seems like a strange time to release a new handheld with the gba selling so well,  sony planning to release the psp,and nokia and tapwave both trying to get market new systems. the prototype pictures look pretty nice anyways.

this is the first i have heard of this thing, but it sounds pretty interesting. the "picture" they have of it is a little vauge and i cant see how it would work with original gba,but
i'll buy one if it turns out to be real.

General Gaming / Tapwave Zodiac

yet another contender for the gba. it seems to me that it suffers from the same problems most recent handhelds do though. 4 hour battery life and a $299(or $399) price tag doesnt seem too appealing to me. not only that, but they are going to split their own market by offering two versions of the system, one with 32mb of ram and one with 128mb of ram(the $399 version).

i dont know. it seems to me that if companies like nokia and this one were serious about competing with nintendo they would create a games only version of their hardware, as well as the versions with all the extras. as is, i dont see either the zodiac or the n-gage being very successful.

Nintendo Gaming / Gamecube/Gameboy link
« on: August 23, 2003, 07:31:15 PM »
after reading a few topics about upcoming games that are going to use the link feature, it seems some people REALLY dont seem to like the idea. so i have a question that i hope someone may be able to answer for me. has nintendo ever released any kind of sales figures for the link cable? i would think this would be the best way to figure out how many people are actually using the feature. the biggest reason i ask is that i am thinking that the number of people that are using the link feature is probably close to the number of people going online on the other consoles(last i heard about 500,000 each). with the sales of the gba and some of the fans nintendo has, i have a hard time believing its not at least close to same amount of users.

saying that, i dont really undertand what there is to complain about. there will soon be online only games(or at least mostly online) for the other consoles, so why not gba link games only? its clear that nintendo isnt going online this generation, so why not offer some sort of alternative? the gba is pretty cheap, and you get another seperate system to play games on. theres always the option of simply not buying these games, much like some ps2 and xbox owners might have to ignore titles that rely heavily on online play.

personaly, the only reason i bought a gba is for the link feature. while i have also got to enjoy games like advance wars and golden sun, i have been pretty dissapointed that i havent been able to use it for the reason i bought it except for tacked on extras. so i say, bring on the link games. i want more games that will make use of it like four swords, final fantasy, and pacman(if it ever actually gets released in some form). judging by early sales of final fantasy in japan, there might be a bigger market for it then some people think.

Nintendo Gaming / Renting Gamecube Games
« on: August 06, 2003, 02:33:26 PM »
i'm kind of wondering what the availability of renting gamecube games is for everyone else, mostly becouse until two weeks ago i wasnt able to at all. none of the stores in my town carried gc games, all the while continuing to stock the ps2 and xbox sections. finally a store opens up that rents gc games and they have 10 games that consists of titles like top gun and shrek. not being able to rent games would turn away alot of potential buyers of the system in my opinion, so i'm curious as to what the situation is elsewhere. i do live in a fairly small town, but ps2 and xbox games are in every video store so why not gc?

Nintendo Gaming / Hitman 2
« on: June 29, 2003, 06:47:56 PM »
did anyone get this game? i was thinking about buying it, but i read that theres some slowdown and that the control is pretty awkward. the gameplay sounds interesting but those problems could easily ruin a game. is it worth getting anyways?
