It has sold just over 500,000 so far. Wild World is at 5 million in Japan alone. Nice try but BZZZTTTTT. City Folk is also doing MUCH worse in other territories.

Like where? The US numbers it came in 10th even though it was only out for the last third of the month. Seriously, you are being a bit silly. A game selling 500k in Japan which probably doesn't have a huge budget to begin with is far from a bomb. Not to mention the fact that Wild World is $20 CHEAPER than City Folk and has been out far longer. Not to mention there are like, what, 7 million Wiis in Japan? And there are what? Like 25 million NDS's in Japan? If it breaks one million it will be 1 in 7 Wii owners that own the game there compared to NDS's 1 in 4 which took 2 years.

Yeah, Animal Crossing isn't setting the world on fire, but I bet it's going to do respectable numbers. And considering it's a game completely focused on doing chores so you can pay off debts and buy more stuff... well... it's one of Nintendo's more niche titles. I swear my allegiance to it though, it definitely has a little something special. Now if only Harvest Moon stole some elements from it...

Wall-E got a massive marketing push with pretty much all demo units running the game and I think stores even bundling it with the console.

Bad News people, Call of Duty: World at War didn't sell well. According to gamedaily, the PS2, PC, Wii and DS versions sold 200,000 units combined. I blame each and every one of you.

Good that's what Activision deserves for whoring out game franchises like that, diminishing returns. Considering all the crap they did to Ghostbusters, Riddick and Brutal Legends.

Call of Duty comes across as supremely generic so I've never given it the time of day.

It also has one thing going against it: I associate it as a PC game.  Thus when it appears on a console, particularly on an underpowered console like the Wii I assume it's compromised in some way.  The fact that it's called World at War and not Call of Duty 6 or whatever suggests that it's a console spin-off.  It isn't according to my five minutes of research but that type of naming convention suggests that.

But the biggest hurdle is that Activision milks the hell out of it.  Thus it looks unessential kind of like the Tony Hawk series.  So much product gets released you can't tell if it's good or bad or part of the main series or a spin-off.  Guitar Hero will eventually turn out the same way.

Hell I have the same attitude towards Mario spin-offs.  I just don't pay attention to them anymore.  A new entry to a game series has to be an event to seem relevent and that means a few years need to take place between sequels.  Annual sequels will burn everyone out after the fourth game.

I may be wrong but isn't this latest Call of Duty lagging behind CoD4 when it comes to how well it is selling? While it is supposedly a good game, I have a feeling people have been turned off a bit by it going back to the WWII setting. Not to mention the Wii version has features stripped out of it. If anything this could be an indication that Wii owners are getting sick of stripped down versions of multiplatform games.

That doesn't explain why the PC version is lumped into the 200k bunch. I really hope this doesn't stop them from making the next one for the Wii because I want to play one in the modern setting but I'd rather not play it than play it with 360 or PC controls.

Forgot about those serious gamers on PS3/360. The Wii doesn't have those types of gamers! That explains everything, never make a FPS for Wii because it does not have enough serious gamers!

Maybe that's because CoD4 is so damn good that people don't want CoD5 AKA world at war. Or it's probably that people like Infinity Ward's CoD games and think Treyarch's CoD games are second rate.

The only Mario series that gets annual installments is Mario Party, which I agree didn't need to come out as often as it did, but I bought all of them all the same. As for Call of Duty, I bought 2 for the PS2 and 3 for the Wii & the Xbox 360 and returned all of them. They manage to make World War II seem boring.

This is the sort of thinking that has completely screwed over the Wii on third party support.  Videogames are not entitled to sales.  Just releasing a game on the Wii does not make us Wii owners obligated to buy it.  You have to earn it.  The Wii version for these games are almost always compromised.  They're almost always the worst version.  F*ck it, why should any of us put up with that crap?  If you own another console you're going to get it for that console because that version is better.  And if you only a Wii maybe you won't buy the game because your standards are such that a scaled Wii version ain't worth supporting.  If they were all equals version then this conclusion makes sense but they're not.  It should be EXPECTED that the best versions sell the best.  The PS3/X360 versions outselling the Wii version is what's RIGHT.  It's would SHOULD happen.

The sad truth is because third parties have had this attitude so long maybe the PS3 and X360 are where gamers that play Call of Duty now are.  The situation with the Wii has been around long enough that those gamers are going to flock to the other consoles.  Why get a Wii if the third parties are just going to screw you around?  It's a self-fulfilling prophecy YET AGAIN.  Being a Nintendo fan is just getting hosed by catch-22 situations again and again.

Guitar Hero is an exception where they haven't screwed over the Wii (well not as much) and thus has earned good sales.  Don't treat us like second class citizens and we buy your game.  What a concept!
