I'm going to try to play more regularly now. I'll give you more of a heads up next time. It looks like we just missed each other.

I used to enjoy JRPG's until voice acting. I can't handle that every person is either a 12 year old or a chain smoker.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World

EleventybajillionGILLION Out of 10

I don't even need to say anything in a review to justify why you should go see this movie.  Seriously.  GO SEE IT NOW.

Did you ever read the manga? I got turned onto it because a friend of mine played in a band with the sister of the guy who wrote it. The name of their band was even on some posters and stuff in the manga. I'm worried about seeing it because I'm not really a michael sera fan, but I'll give it a chance because I enjoyed the books.

I read that the rhythm of the combo system is thrown off by the emulator. Not sure how true that is, but I've put enemies to sleep and have still been unable to get more than 2 hits.

One thing that I noticed almost immediately was that the game had some cursing in it. There was never any swearing in Earthbound, and I doubt any Nintendo overseen translation would allow swearing in Mother 3 so I'm sure this fan translation would differ from an official one in other ways that are similar to that.

I want to get back into this game so bad. Ever since I started working I haven't had time to play. I feel like there is no point unless I can dedicate at least an hour or two for playing. I never lost interest in the game, just got really busy. I haven't even played galaxy 2 yet because I wasn't going to get it until I finished with Monster Hunter.

I am a big Earthbound fan, but have never played Mother 3 before. I decided to use this retroactive as motivation to play through it now. I just finished the first chapter and I am really enjoying it so far. I miss the whimsical nature of Earthbound though. I always wondered if the whole adventure in Earthbound was just something that was just imagined by the children. Obviously it wasn't really presented that way, but it just had this feel to it that was innocent. I feel like mother has stripped this innocence. Not necessarily in a bad way, but in the same way that it is sad to think of how children eventually grow up.

Just thought I would say I am enjoying it so far, and intend to play it all the way through, hopefully before the podcast airs. I'll drop my comments as I go along. Do we really need spoiler tags btw?

This is truly disappointing. I can understand why it happened, because the water levels are slow and in most cases frustrating as hell, but they were a great change of pace as long as there weren't a bunch of them in a row. Also this means that this will be the first game without the swordfish as one of your animal friends.

I just showed a friend of mine who doesn't keep up with gaming news or anything the trailer for this. When the screen was black and the music started playing he just said, "No way!" I know that I'm excited for this, but I didn't realize that there are many people who grew up with the snes but don't follow Nintendo anymore that will be just as excited as I am.

My friend and I found this band in Montreal last year and have been fans ever since. They have another song called Street Fighter 2 Turbo, check it out.

Alan Moore wrote short book called "Writing for Comics," where he espouses on how he feels comic book writers should strive to tell stories, but also how writers should tell their stories. One of the most important parts of this is choosing the appropriate medium for the story you want to tell, and to accompany that, to exploit the attributes of that medium which make it unique. This is where I feel like video games are still in their infancy. Not very often are stories in video games more effective because they are on video games. That is why I think that this feature is important. By locating emotional moments in games I think you can get a better grasp on what makes the medium effective in a way that is unique from movies, books or comics.

I actually think that Nintendo has a greater grasp on this concept than many other "story" heavy games. Because of the interactive nature of video games, the player can become connected to the protagonist, and to the world more than in another medium. That's why I enjoy Nintendo games so much, the narrative is your experience in the game, and the sparse moments when your control is taken away are used to punctuate and add inflection to that narrative. I also enjoy games like FF, but I have enjoyed the narrative appeal less with each iteration, as they become more about exposition, and to be honest, the narrative content isn't strong enough for that. This is why I will never play another Metal Gear after I stopped playing two. To paraphrase, Alan Moore says that typically, books tell and movies show, but comics are in the unique position to do both and they should utilize that to get the most out of their narratives. To me, video games aren't about telling or showing as much as they are about doing. You want to see truly interesting narratives that push the envelope of the medium, then more video game writers and developers should start there.

It looks like I'm falling well behind most of you guys :( I'm glad that Sundolos seems to be at the same level as me though. I feel bad holding people up who clearly would rather be working on higher level quests. I just unlocked my level 2 urgent though, and I think Sundolos did as well, so we could probably use some help with that.

I dominated lagiacrus in both urgent missions, then had my ass handed to me in the capture mission. I think that he is a lot harder in the flooded forest because of the small areas you have to fight in. Also, I think I got cocky, I spent a lot of time preparing for the lagiacrus mission, and went in with a good amount of respect for the monster and was well prepared. When I faced him again later, I think I took him for granted because I had beaten him already. But he did seem more aggressive, so I'm not sure. I'm loving my armor right now though. I have Ingot, with +35 lightning resistance and immunity to poison. It's essentially perfect for fighting anything that is not in the volcano.

I have a handful of 2 star quests left to do, and my HR isn't near high enough to get to the next level, so I'll be able to help out on those for sure.

I think that if you get to the point where you beat the Great Jaggi offline then you should be well prepared for online, but really you can come on whenever you want. When you go to a city it will show you the rank of the people who are in it. If you are just starting, look for cities where people are level 8 and under. Otherwise, try to get online with some forumers here, in my experience we are much more helpful, and much more fun to work with than relying on whoever you happen to come across. (also some of the forumers are quite good and high ranking but aren't above helping you finish low level quests, I know Mop it up and thatguy helped me out quite a bit)
