Title: 2023 NWR Forum Awards

It is time to collect the nominations for the second annual Nintendo World Report Forum Awards. I have restructured the categories to be more Nintendo focused due to low interest in the other platforms last year. Here are my short lists for nominees:

Nintendo Switch Game of the Year

Multiplatform Game of the Year

Best Remake, Remaster, or Compilation

Best Independent Game

Again, these are just my short lists. Please comment below any games you want included in the list of nominations. Also let me know if you have questions about the categories or think a game should be included in a different category. Finally, we will try to implement nickmitch's "Backlogged Game of the Year". For that award we will just post replies to the polls to indicate which nominees are still on our backlog (i.e., we have not played them yet). The game backlogged by the most users will win the award.

I am hoping to start the voting December 1 so make sure to get in your nominees before then!

I have heard that Dave the Diver is not an independent game. But, that does call into question what an independent game is, these days.

I have heard that Dave the Diver is not an independent game. But, that does call into question what an independent game is, these days.

According to Wikipedia's article for the game
"Dave the Diver is the first game from Mintrocket, a subsidiary of Nexon. Taehwan Kim, Vice President of Nexon America stated that Dave the Diver, "may look like an indie, but it's not necessarily the case".[7]
The source cited there is Korean.

So it is "not necessarily" an independent game  ???
On the other hand, The Game Awards did nominate it for Best Independent Game.  :-\

Does anyone else think it should be moved to Best Switch game?

I can't speak for Dave the Diver, but Lies of P should definitely be in Best Independent Game. I can't fathom why the Game Awards didn't allow it in that category, aside from reinforcing the stereotype that Indie games are only 2D pixel art games with barely any money or effort put into them.

Time is almost up on the polls for deciding the NWR Forum awards. If you have not already voted, make sure to do that soon.

I found Pikmin 4 to be pretty good. It's probably my second or third favorite game in the series, but I really dislike the last two or three maps and the challenge caves that go with them.

That seems awfully familiar...

I liked Pikmin 4 well enough. It's probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite game in the series...but those last 1 or 2 maps & their associated challenge caves just flat out suck IMO.

Ah, it did a cross post. I had scanned the thread before and saw no comment like it and it seemed to be on topic enough that I left it alone. Thanks for exposing it. :thumbs up emoji:
