Title: WE DEMAND FOLDERS: The official Nintendo Switch folders hunger strike thread!
Post by: pokepal148 on September 24, 2020, 02:23:59 AM
I have more than 200 games on my Switch so it's basically unmanageable now. It's absurd that we've gotten so far into the Switch's lifespan without getting folders. I don't understand what the hold up is. It's inexcusable.

I just got Hades on my PC. I would greatly prefer to play it on switch but I'm at the point where I am actively trying to avoid buying games on my Switch because it's just impossible to manage a large library on it.

I also have more than 200 games on Switch, and it can be a hassle at times, but I don't think folders would really change that for me. The way I used them on 3DS and Wii U was mostly separating out Virtual Console platforms, which is not an issue on Switch.

With all of the upgraded ports you could still separate by console of origin.

Instead of folders I'd like more options on how to display or group them similar to how the start bar in windows works as a custom title field with groups and icon size, but that would be asking for the world compared to the simple addition of folders.

I like how Vudu does lists. You can make a list, pick which titles are in it, a title could be in multiple lists. I have a list for Schwarzenegger movies and Scifi, but some of those are the same movies.

Have you considered buying less games?

I recently redid my 3DS Folders so they're sorted by completion status. That's been much better for me i find.

Thats how mine are. It works well.

With the switch I just archive a game once its beaten. Also because I felt I needed to check, I currently have 69 icons on my switch. I remove demos and trials and stuff like that.

It's strange how little Nintendo has done to improve the Switch system UX experience. Compare that to how the Wii U started and what they added to improve it over time. I guess the lesson to draw from this is that if you want Nintendo to improve something, don't buy it. :p

Holy moley! RAB is right!

There's got to be a lot of less than stellar purchases there. You've... you've downloaded Bubsy Paws on Fire, haven't you? You know, pokepal148..... *disappointed sigh* And you think purchases like that deserve folders?! I just... I can't even.

The Wii U's interface was a total mess that needed way more improvements, and even after all those changes it was still worse than what the Switch launched with in most respects.

My Switch game count is more than what the 3DS is physically capable of holding, for the record.

I'm wondering if any UI changes are being saved for the next major "version" of the Switch. Something like that would help differentiate the Pro or whatever allegedly will come next year from current offerings; though I disagree with keeping the improvements on that newer system. But the more I look at the lack of UI improvements compared to the actual work that went into the 3DS and Wii U interfaces I can only conclude that they are saving improvements for something specific. Maybe they will have a "casual" and a "pro" UI you can switch between? Building up to a total UI overhaul would also explain the lack of themes or even basic color options.

Why hasn't Pokepal148 starved to death yet?

Why hasn't Pokepal148 starved to death yet?

Good, NOW GIVE US A WAY TO AUTOMATICALLY CHECK FOR UPDATES. Once they fall off the start screen, they never update by themselves and I don't want to go one by one on all my 451+ icons to check for updates.

Holy crap! It actually happened. I didn't think it would. I had to come check in here once I saw the news. It's a shame pokepal died two days ago from starvation but then maybe Nintendo knew what they were doing by holding back folders until that happened. In honour of pokepal's sacrifice, I'm going to ignore this folder feature and keep using my Switch in the same way I have been doing up to now.

Finally, the Switch has everything important from the Wii U.

Except Netflix.
