Where's the edit button here?  I meant to say "shortly after the SNES died."

Well, Star Tropics 2 is the one there I like the best, but I have both Star Tropics games on cart (complete in box, including the little magic ink letter for the first one), so nothing for me this month.  If you haven't played the ST games though you should totally get them.  They have a very "Earthbound" feel to them.  I got them on blow-out sale shortly after the SNES launched and have loved them ever since.

TalkBack / Re: Angry Birds Trilogy Out Now for Wii and Wii U

Oh man.  I am so torn on this one for Wii.  I do love me some Angry Birds, and I do love getting new games on Wii, but $40 for a game that is free on browsers?  Guess I won't get... wait a minute.  Extremely late in life console release.  High price point.  Beloved franchise.  Oh God.  It's going to be, like, $150 on the collectors market in 10 years.  Well, guess I'm buying it.

I bought all the Operation Rainfall games, and boy I sure am glad to have Xenoblade (my guess is my copy of Pandora's Tower will end up the most valuable of the three however).

TalkBack / Re: Wii U Virtual Console Detailed

Wait, so you're saying I can't play my VC games on my Wii anymore.  They are going to disappear!?  But I just got some of them last month!  This is an outrage...  Wait.  They're still fine.  Oh.
Okay, so you're telling me I bought old games from the 80s and 90s for the Wii, got to play them on Wii and then they don't transfer to the Wii U!  That's somewhat disappointing!  I expect at least one generation of backward compatability from my consoles thank you very much.  If I lay out FIVE WHOLE DOLLARS for Mario 3, one of the best games ever, I expect to be able to play it on at least two seperate systems across over a decade of support or I will feel somewhat let down!  Wait, I can do that.  Oh.
Hmmm.  What is everyone crying about again?  Oh I see.  Nintendo didn't personally tuck you in last night and give you a kiss goodnight.

Anyone else mystified by why VC is still being released on the Wii?   1 month after Wii U launch?

If by mystified you mean "incredibly happy" then yes, I am that.  I mean, speaking for myself, and about 50 million other people, I have a Nintendo Wii and no Nintendo Wii U.  Thus, I am glad that the system I do have has new VC releases while the system I don't have can technically still get them for the much smaller number of people who have that system.
It will be a couple years before I buy a Wii U, so ideally, I'd like to see VC Wii releases clear on into 2014 at least.

TalkBack / Re: North American Club Nintendo Prizes Revealed
« on: July 08, 2012, 11:34:11 AM »
Not to complain overmuch (as the prizes are alright), but I don't understand why P level isn't a G reward plus one of the posters or cards.  I chose Majora's Mask because I missed out on it during my University days, and just wrapped up OoT 3DS awhile ago, so it seemed like a good choice.  However, now I am no better off than someone with Gold status.  All the pile of extra points bought me in the end was extra selections I didn't want.  Additional choice isn't really a prize, as it is not really a choice at all.  It's either "take the special reward you only kind of want or take the prize you want and end up no better off."  It's not much of a choice.  This is especially annoying, as my Gold reward didn't really cost them much of anything, it being a simple download, so my choice saves them the shipping and having to physically produce anything, all so I can waste the extra status.

I mean, I still have MM, so it's hard to consider that a loss, but I think next year I stop after Gold and save any extra activations until the next year to go for gold again.

TalkBack / RE:REVIEWS: Pac-Man World Rally

I guess it's just the score I disagree with.  That and the fact that I don't see how the pac angels and devils have few uses.  The funhouse track makes it easy to build them up, and there's on part where flame in that level basically requires that you use them to get a good time through.  Also, in tocman's factory you can really breeze through the chopping axes part by using the shield.  Also, when an enemy sends one of the blue bombs after you, hitting the shield is certainly helpful.  It's not superfluos at all.  It's like dragging a banana to protect from red shells in Mario Kart.  Having defensive options is a good idea.  Also, although the fruit short cuts are unnecssary in single player mode, wouldn't it make a big difference in multiplayer, where the difficulty depends on the ability of your friends.  As well, the fruit short cuts are a great idea and would be really helpful against tougher AI.  I hope there's a sequel with online play and tougher AI, which I imagine would make things like defensive shields and hidden shortcuts seem far from superfluous.  I'm hoping this is only the first shot for this series, as only poor enemy difficulty is holding it back right now.

But it's already in the bargain bin.  It's a console game going for the price of the cheap DS games.  The new Nintendo games go for something like $50+ here in Canada, while this one is $34.  It's not a big plunge to take.  I suggest renting it, playing some battle mode, and then picking it up if you like it.

I could not agree less with this review.  This is basically the only non "Mario Kart" Kart game that feels like the kind of fun that type of game should be.  Diddy Kong was alright, but the weird level selection and exploration stuff got old fast, Crash Bandicot racing games all look like mud, and outside of that most any other "Kart" games have been even worse.  This one feels whimsical and cartoony, and actually makes good use of the source material.  The characters all have distinct animations, the levels are full of cool little pac related details, and with the exception of the classic maze level, all the tracks are very fun.  Also, the real meat of this game is in the battle mode.  Put the computer on "difficult" and give it a whirl.  It quickly becomes apparent where the main fun in this game is to be had anyway.  Outside of the computer being easy, I really don't see a problem with this game.

Seriously though, boot up the battle mode and see if you don't have a lot of fun.

All I know is thta, for me, it's really hurting my liking of Nintendo that they are releasing it on the Wii.  I can only speak from how I feel about it myself, and I feel like they've basically, for a second generation in a row, said "screw you for your support, we're on to bigger and better things".  For me personally, that's a big deal, and I find myself feeling less supportive of the company in general.

So they won't be using clapping then?  Alternatively, with the sticks I guess they could ask you to press the trigger or something, but that's like using the Gamecube controller for the first Konga games (i.e. not appealing).  Using the controller for a game originally developed with a physical drum in mind might not ead to really intuitive gameplay.  I think it's a poor fit.  They're most likely to end up with a game that's best with the bongo drums, which means that they'll have this system being pushed on its fancy new control scheme, but for this game you'll basically need another perephrial anyway.  Once again, I think they'd be better off just leaving the games on the Cube, where they're supposed to be.  I know I'd certainly be a lot happier while waiting for the Wii with a new Konga game to tide me over.  Right now I'm trying to figure out if I should buy a PS2 in the interim (it'll likely be Februrary before I can afford a Wii, and I haven't played a new Cube game since Chibi-Robo).

I'm just glad to finally see someone else who thinks moving the last two good Gamecube games to the Wii is stupid.  Bad enough we should wait a year for Zelda and then have to wait another 3 weeks all for the Wii version's sake, but Super Paper Mario and Bongo blast aren't exactly going to sell systems or anything.  They would, however, have made the wait for the Wii more bareable in the face of the overall Gamecube draught.

A few exceptions exist to every rule.  I mean, is Kameo really that good?  Is Starfox Adventures really that good?  Besides, do you think Animal Crossing wouldn't have done well on the N64, a system with more owners than the Gamecube, when the game basically looks and controls like an N64 game anyway?

Joust isn't worth $5 because you'll be bored with it in five minutes?  That is impossible.  Of course, I don't play the NES version, so maybe it blows compared to the 7800 or arcade version.

Nope, I like the Gamecube.  I'm more of an SMS fan than an NES one.  The Gamecube actually reminds me of my Genesis (the best console ever), in that I want to play it a lot and all the exclusive games for it are pretty slick (and a lot of them are really original).  Oh, and I think both sytems have great, comfortable controllers.

I'll agree with that review.  I also had no problem at all with the end of day thing.  It's kind of a silly thing to pick on, considering it's part of the "challange" of the game.  If you only have 4 minutes left and you just found the way into the basement rafters, part of the fun of it is locating a route to the items before time runs out.  Saying that hurts the game is like saying having an energy level hurts your ability to win Street Fighter 2.

Ugh, do I hate that game.  I bought it with the same intention as you (the Broadband adaptr was on sale at TRU at the time too) and even had all the information on it from my ISP.  However, I spent a couple days playing the game and then realized I didn't want to be playing that game at all, let alone for a fee online.

I've put 6 hours into it so far, and it's funny that everyone is comparing it to Animal Crossing and Pikmin, considering that I just picked up all three games in a two week span.  My fiancee's instant addiction to Animal Crossing (and, to be fair, my own)  have kind of limited the amount of time Chibi can be in the GameCube.  Still, this game is some real fun.  I'm playing through slow and doing a lot of chores and stuff, and not even worrying about most of the quests yet.  Of course, that is making it kind of like RPG grinding, as my battery level, items, and utilibots are all going to be maxed out by the time I tackle most of the quests.  I'm hoping for Revoltion and DS sequels.
