Nintendo Gaming / Re: Games you DON'T want to see come out
« on: June 30, 2021, 12:48:37 AM »
Going back to an earlier point, I guess things got a bit sidetracked by using Mega Man as an example.

(Although I think you defenders are wrong. What is the downside to having Mega Man games freshened up like Metroid: Zero Mission? Seems like a win to have better controls for combat and more detailed environments. Ducktales Remastered vs Ducktakes NES? You're telling me the NES game is still better?)

However, the main point was to NES games in general. I get its cheap for the publishers and developers to just keep re-releasing these 30 year old games again and again on new hardware but I have to think interest in them has fallen from the Wii VC days. If we are remastering and remaking games that are 20 years or less already like Spyro, Crash, FF7 or Shadow of the Colossus then why isn't the same being done for those NES titles? I get some people are nostalgic for the pixel and 8-bit look but I'm not saying those have to be deleted or unavailable from now on. However, if you want to breath new life and renew gaming interest in some of these franchises or titles then I don't think re-releasing the same old NES rom on Switch 2 is going to do it.

The problem is Capcom DID freshen up the Mega Man Games with Mega 8 for Super Nintendo and Mega Man X series.  Mega Man X as a series is brilliant, but I won't lie I though the X and Extreme look look some of the appeal from it.  I could have used all the gameplay enhancements and had classic Mega art and be happy.

The thing is that Mega Man was simplistic but it was beautifully simplistic much better than the modern retro games, and I think Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10 the Retro Style sequels show that...it looks better than Mega Man 11.  Now, the slow down and difficulty which is partly because of the technology back then being limited, and partly because creators were still mastering the craft of design.

And about my joke games...I actually could See Nintendo pulling both of those off, but I was making jokes.  Wario Wears is probably the easier sell.  But a comedy of Waluigi trying to find love and having bizarre silly and non-factual information about relationships would be hilarious.

How about Wario Wears.  A dress up game for Wario and Luigi.  I don't want to see that.

Or Waluigi's Birds and the Bees.  An educational Visual Novel about puberty and reproduction.

Khushrenda:  I actually disagree with your take because Mega Man NES games hold up better visually to me than the SNES updates.  The style is just perfect.  However, the difficulty of those games are just too much for me.  But I love them dearly.

If Deadpool has a surprise Cameo that would be incredible.  I would love it.  So many fun and silly jokes they could do with the multiverse.

The reverse butterfly effect is cool.  But I hope that Loki doesn't "win" or if he does he realizes that winning was never what he truly wanted.  Because, his main arc is that he dooms himself.

I love Metroid games, but I have only beaten on of the Prime games.  I just really hate hard games that are too frustratingly difficult to beat.  A game should hit a sweet spot but should always be beatable.  For this reason I love and hate the NES generation of games.  And to me the Super Nintendo generation is the best generation of games for my personal tastes.

I too want to say thank you for posting this.  I will watch it as well.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: DONKEY KONG COUNTRY!!!!! SUCKS!!
« on: May 31, 2021, 01:35:45 AM »
I remember playing this game when it first came out.  I am a first generation Donkey Kong Country player...and I must say that although I finished the game. It really isn't great.  The Graphics were awesome for the time, and still hold up somewhat.  But the character controls and movement were stiff and nonresponsive and the platforming was harder than Mario, but less fair.  And Mario is plenty hard in later levels.

I love how the Batman Caped Cursader is using the same font of the original Animated series.  And showing a new look for Batman that leans into the mature noire aspect of the animated series.  It seems like we may ACTUALLY be getting a show that is going to try to do the same thing the original animated series was...a mature animated series for adults.  This is a good thing.  And with the Superman series coming out too...even with the different art styles (That would actually help define the tonal differences between the characters) could lead to a renewed Justice League Animated series.  I can dream right?  Right? Can history please repeat itself here?

It could also just be, defining your own family and knowing who you are in the world.  Guardian of the Galaxy 2 is a better movie, but I think Guardians 1 is more fun.  Guardians 1 falters in a boring first climax, but the build up is great.  Galaxy 2 has all these great character moments wrapped around some boring filler, but the end climax is just so fantastically fun and the messaging about identity and family is great.

Maybe they saved Killmonger, who changes his ways.

I think this would be the best route if they wont recast.  Killmonger was popular and many sympathized with him.  Having a redemption story where he's trying to make up for his wrongs could be pretty powerful.

Plus his death is very easy to retcon since T'Challa does tell him he can be saved before Killmonger pulls the dagger out to bleed to death.  They just need one line that says T'Challa got him to a medical team at the right moment before it was too late.  Yeah it would still be a retcon but at least it's a somewhat believable one.

This right here would be the coolest idea.  You can have the opening Title Screen and opening credits be Killmonger at the Gravesite of T'Challa.  He is making his peace with a monologue teaching us how he survived AND how he wants to make amends.  He becomes the Black Panther, but renounces the leadership of King.  Now you Wakanda in a new place.  Changing with the times and you have a more interesting morally gray Black Panther that is trying to be a better person and make peace with his past.  While at the same time, facing a world that is ever showing him, that although his ultimate goal was wrong, his view and understanding of the problems of the world was and is still correct.

I loved the video and I choked up too.  I actually hate the Black Panther name.  My mind could be changed if the title actually plays into the storyline.  I would love to see a story about rebuilding the Wakanda empire after the Thanos attack and after the world now knows it exists.

13
Intersting poster.  I didn't like the original Shazam.  I think the movie was tonally a mess.  It was funny and light hearted, but then the villain and effects were too serious and scary to fit the comedic tones and so it felt like a very scary and disturbing children's film.  Then the final scenes when you got used to the serious tone the final fight seemed to go silly.

14
Boseman didn't want to be defined by his illness.  He fought it and kept it a secret.  I am curious who knew and when, but it doesn't matter.  I would have recast Black Panther and dedicated the next movie to him.  And move on.  Not allowing the franchise to have the Black Panther character and move on is a mistake.  A mistake a respect, but still a mistake.

in context of the show....

Black Falcon and the White Wolf

actually what should've happened was it should have typed out Black Falcon and The Winter Soldier
then someone starts hitting the backspace button to erase the entire title card.
then they type out Captain Falcon.... then hit the backspace some more to erase Falcon.
then out Captain America and The White Sold..... backspace backspace backspace.... Wolf

then the complete title card enlarges to say
Captain America and The White Wolf

I like this.  They could have done it as a mystery...some government worker is typing up this report of the past events and the Title of the report could have been Black Falcon and the Winter Soldier report, and after writing up the report they scroll up on the type writer and backspace to change the title.  The report could be pulled and it could have had a SWORD letterhead or something.

16
I like Bucky's name, White Wolf.  They could have named the series The Falcon and the Wolf.

EDF is one of my guilty pleasures.  It is a game that understands it is a game and just delivers what gamers want.  However, the game isn't as shallow as people think.  On the hardest difficulty levels the game is like a action puzzler as you have to strategically take out enemies in the right order to have any success.  If this game can capture the feel of the original EDF games, then I will be happy.  The art style is surprising, but if the gameplay is solid I am along for the ride.

Oh, I agree BnM my statement was just longer stories are better stories giving time for the quiet moments needed to build character or build up the scene or stakes in the movie.  JS Justice League gives Steppenwolf a reason to fight and not an arc but details.  Cyborg and Flash both have more substantial roles with Cyborg getting a real arc and the Flash getting a mini-arc in the movie.  Batman has a redemption arc going.  And Aquaman has a mini arc.  The only characters don't have arcs are Wonder Woman and Superman.  But you can say Superman's mini-arc is him learning that he did bring hope to Earth and deciding it was his home and worth fighting for...and Wonder Woman's support role was to toy in all the other arcs of the other characters so that they happen.

This could only happen with a stupidly wrong run time for a big action movie.  TV shows need to break down each episode into an arc which can help give direction and purpose for the storytelling and that can really help structure the story and I do prefer this.  But a long epic movie can just thread everything together.

I am not saying Justice League is a great movie with the Synder Cut, but it is better and if we originally got that movie instead of Joss Whedon's edit, I think we might still have the Synderverse going because it a big, loud movie that was fundamentally different than the Marvel universe.

19
I don't want to see the fake Mandarin in this.  Make this completely separate, introduce the real Mandarin.  I like how the film feels like a big budget Asian movie, which is should.  I hope to see some good action and hopefully a new part of the Marvel world like Black Panther did for us, and Doctor Strange when they opened the universe to Wakanda and magic.

20
I have finished all but the epilogue of Zack Snyder's Justice League.  I have to say it is a much better film.  But it isn't a good movie.  It felt excessive like it was a Marvel movie with no restraint.  I will say the beginning of the movie is better than the end, and they did a much better job making a compelling villain, but the end of the day it is forgettable.

Another thing I learned from Wandavision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier and ZS's Justice League is making a longer stories really help the storytelling.  I honestly, don't know if I want to watch movies as much anymore because these longer formats are just better for stories.

TalkBack / Re: Our Pokemon Snap 2 Pitch From 1999
« on: April 17, 2021, 10:03:34 AM »
Your pitch sounds exactly like my pitch after playing Pokemon Snap.  But my idea was basically Breath of the Wild Pokemon game with different jobs.

1) Pokemon photographer
2) Pokemon Doctor
3) Pokemon Trainer
4) Pokemon Daycare Worker
5) Pokemon Beauty Pageant Contests
6) Team Rocket Member

Basically it was a Pokemon MMO with a truly living breathing world with Pokemon.  Different jobs interacted differently in that world.  People that didn't want to battle could play mini games and other such games as a Daycare worker and dedicate themselves to helping other players level up and completing their Pokédex faster as they can see more Pokemon faster.  Pokemon Doctors could travel around making money helping trainers on the road, but also find wild Pokemon and even trigger exclusive events were doctors can help legendary Pokemon.  This would be an alternative story mode.  Finally Pokemon photographer would take pictures, build a Pokédex and enter photo contests.  Their role in the game would be to document where to find legendary Pokemon and Pokemon with location and time stamps as well as solve puzzles on how to find Pokemon.

The game almost expects you to use your food in combat early.  You can take a hit that wipes your health and instantly heal.  The game is designed to use your resources often.  That said, I know late game there are several items you will want to collect for crafting and other things.  This is probably the one aspect of the game that I didn't like and didn't feel very Zelda like.  I was in the menu system just as much as I was playing the game, because I was needing to heal.  Needing to switch weapons.  Needing to cook items.  Honestly, that part of the game was a chore and exhausting.  And I hope Nintendo balances it out.  I didn't mind breaking weapons, but it could happen less frequently and maybe be for special weapons and allow a simple base weapon with lower stats to always be available.

Super Mario Land is an odd game.  It is a Mario game and for what it is worth it plays well, but it is so odd.  For a unique Mario experience play it.  See what you think.

Super Mario Land 2 is the premium GB Mario experience.  It feels like Mario 3, except the screen is too zoomed in.  I found that I would have rather worse graphics than play with such little level information.  Super Mario Land 2 was a totally good game that needs an HD remake just like Metroid 2 got.  Nintendo really needs to revisit and release some of their old Gameboy games that were great ideas but could not be executed well and polish them up.  I would pay full price for a good remaster of Nintendo's best gameboy advance games with updated graphics.

OBO or better offer.  To him $350+ is better than 350.00 so maybe he does know what it means?  hahahaha.

Seriously though, $350.00 is a lot for that package, he must be proud of it.

The Gameboy Donkey Kong is one of my favorite Mario experiences.  A puzzle platformer that feels so classic and great.  I really hated when the sequels moved away from the original formula to the toy Marios and such.  I would love a remake or sequel to that original designed game because it was almost perfect.
