The latest entry in the hybrid farming/exploring series promises hundreds of hours of turnip management and dungeon diving.

Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny is coming to North America on September 27 for Wii and PS3. The second console Rune Factory title, the series is a mix of the Harvest Moon mechanics with dungeon exploration and RPG elements.

Tides of Destiny tells the story of Aden and Sonja. A curse finds their spirits sharing the same body and their world transformed into a place they don't recognize. In order to restore their world, they have to uncover the mystery of their curse, which they do by exploring the seas on the back of a giant golem named Ymir.

The announcement was accompanied with a new batch of screenshots, which are available here.

I really don't like how they don't have the hand-drawn characters that pop up whenever you talk to another in game character. The rendered people just arent the same.

I have Rune Factory 2 but got bored by the lack of progression. I'm strong enough to annihilate any of the monsters I encounter while taking like 1-2 damage from them in return (hell, a boss fight for the end of a romance arc consisted of my pet hitting the boss once to kill it) but I still can't see any new areas unlock.

Yay! I was wondering if they were ever going to localize the latest console Rune Factory.

Where's my European date?

And that tomboyish red-head is HOT, yowsers!

When we know, you'll know.

I feel like I missed out on more nautical puns. No way the article tweet lived up to the hype.

I believe RF3 for the DS isn't even released in Europe yet, they take their sweet time with that stuff.

Turnip management and dungeon diving go together like:

Peanut Butter and Soy Sauce
Hekyll and Carl
Cookies and Clamato
Yin and Yang The Flowerpot Man (alocohol is your yoga, baby)

Oui, Mon Gars!

I keep forgetting that this game is coming. I really enjoyed Rune Factory Frontier despite its issues, and from what I can tell this game fixes some of the problems I had with it, although I don't know much about it.

The only Rune Factory game I've played was the very first one, which I believe was on the DS.  I thought the game was ok overall, though the glacial progression (even more so than usual for a Harvest Moon game) turned me off to the game after a while and I found the dungeon crawling to be pretty uninspired.

Can anyone who's played the later games in the series tell me if the pacing has gotten better (or at least if you can do more things in the dungeon now than simply whack mutant creatures and plant crops)?  I also vaguely remember the original Rune Factory having something akin to an actual narrative.  Would I have needed to play previous games in this series to enjoy a new installment (I doubt it since it's a Harvest Moon game, but you never know)?
There was a Signature here. It's gone now.

Frontier was about the same. Stories are not connected; in 3 you're a furry, so ShyGuy loved it.
