Nintendo Gaming / Metroid...for x-mas?

My guess is that Zero Mission is a prequel, ala Resident Evil Zero.

If you are more concerned with how 'better' which console is over another, rather than the entertainment value it presents to you, you would be better off selling your console.

Nintendo Gaming / Least Polished GCN Game
« on: July 10, 2003, 02:23:30 AM »
In fact, I should also include Conflict: Desert Storm as my second vote.

After playing Metroid Prime and completing it, I'm slightly stuck to the button system. I liked the way how it was all so comfortable and had no overlay on it.
Desert Storm however I'm trying to get used to it and I'm getting nowhere. I can't see where I'm going in the game, the radar is practically useless. The graphics are somewhat mediocre, but generally lacklustre.
You can't see who's shooting at you! All you see is a slightly thickened yellow line head in your direction then after a second it disappears. The engine seems pointless. Someone was playing the game along with everyone else at the time, then he just 'fell' out.
My friends like this game, but I find it so badly crafted it's a nightmare to play. The vocals are awful.
The 'sand' in one of the levels was simply just a sand-like colour repeatedly hazing the screen every second. No detail now was put into this, because all the characters see the sand at the same time.
Strange considering wind currents can change when you are in different places?
Not like Metroid Prime where it hazes when you are standing in heat spots, then when you leave them it returns to normal view.

Simply awful.

If Amusement Vision go, then something is seriously wrong in the minds of Sega.
Equally as much with Sonic Team.

The complete opposite to the 'Most' equivalent.

Poor and often slow camera. New engine equates to no improvement over a Playstation title.
Unusually large load times. I thought Metroid Prime could be a little slow, when you opened doors sometimes.
Crash Bandicoot often took a full 2 minutes. Makes you wonder what exactly it is loading?
Unresponsive movement. Incredibly linear gameplay. You can complete this 100% in 2 days if you tried.
I didn't in the end, becuase the poor camera and unresponsive controls means I got fed up and put it away.

My vote goes to Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex.

It seems funny how we've all chosen GCN-Exclusive games

I wonder what the least polished GCN title is *Leans towards new topic button*

KDR, what do you mean? How many bugs mis-translations did you find?
I only found one 'bug' in Metroid Prime, that was mostly turned to my own advantage;

*SPOILERS*

In the Phazon Mines in the Ore Processing Centre, rotate the yellow track until it is fully lined up. Spider Ball the whole way up, then push the ball out until is is off the track itself. Bomb there, then get out of the ball. If you time it right (You need to do it about after 1 and a half seconds), Samus ends up standing on the top of the yellow track. Turn around and jump up to the platform.
If done wrong when timing the process, for no reason whatsoever does she get 'pushed' back into the ball and falls all the way back down to the ground.

I nominate Metroid Prime for it's non-linear gameplay. However, Super Monkey Ball 1/2 is the nearest equivalents.

Super Monkey Ball (1 and 2) and Metroid Prime. After seeing Samus' reflection on her visor at times (Particuarly in the Drifts), that just reeks polish to me.

Nintendo Gaming / Acclaim drops all support for Nintendo!
« on: June 23, 2003, 09:10:18 AM »
Acclaim are developing 'Alias', based around the TV series of the same name. It originally said on the website in a press release it will e for all consoles. Now, unsurprisingly says Xbob and PS2 only.

I haven't bought games from Acclaim, and judging by the sub-par games we're used to, I wouldn't to buy any either.

Nintendo Gaming / Can Nintendo survive not being #1
« on: June 19, 2003, 02:07:20 PM »
Nintendo aren't kiddy. Nintendo are daring. Nintendo are renowned for always giving something different.
A darker blend of this ever-changing-difference-ness (note I said 'darker', not more gothic or anything), plus some more eye-catching advertising, plus various console nit-bits, and things can easily improve.

Nintendo Gaming / Younger gamers and the gaming industry
« on: June 19, 2003, 01:21:57 AM »
The teenage market is split into two, mostly of 90/10.

That 90 largely havce an Xbox or PS2 anbd buy a game simply coz it's "in fashion".
Halo, GTA, both examples of games that into this 'icon status'. A buys game, WOW its cool!, tells B, WOW it's great!, tells C, bla bla bla.

I bought Animal Crossing, and I got called mad for buying it. No problem with me!
It's incredibly naive of people to assume that teenagers are all the same. Fair enough, I'm human, and the only mistake I have made was to buy Crash Bandicoot.
But within that huge void of teenagers who buy fashion titles, there is a group who know what we're doing, and buy to a more rounded reason rather than "My friend says its got good graphics!".

I'm only 16 myself.

I have a cube, and a friend brought Enter the Matrix to play.
My friends' who bought Matrix said that game is better than Metroid Prime. They even said it's better than Animal Crossing.
I seriously disagree, the attention to detail on everything alone in Metroid's case, and the innovation in AC, before I even consider the storyline in either game, is enough to leave me in awe.

That said, my friends who bought Enter The Matrix, largely bought movie-franchise games.
Hulk, Nightfire, bla bla, and said they're all good.

Before you criticise all of us our age, there is a small market of educated teenagers who buy games not to their name, but to all the other factors involved. Coincidentally, those living around here all own a gamecube.

Nintendo Gaming / Animal Crossing 2?
« on: June 15, 2003, 12:04:45 PM »
I would doubt that Animal Crossing 2 will use the same engine as AC1.
Remember that AC was a port from the Nintendo 64, so the engine was designed around that hardware.

Personally, I would like to see AC2 Cel Shaded.

Nintendo Gaming / Developers mentioned in games = Sign of pride?
« on: June 07, 2003, 01:06:53 AM »
I know where your coming from. It's totally understandable actually.

Developers which actually deserve to have their name in blazing lights - twice before you start the game (Retro wink wink ), looks to me as if they are truly caring, and very proud of their accomplishment. I'm sure everyone will agree there!
Most developers do just put their logo on the back of the case, which is fine for me.
It's those developers though, that make AWFUL games, still put huge logo's in the game itself.
I wouldn't want to be told, that (arguably!) the worst game ever - Crash Bandicoot - Is made by travellers tales?

All my games do have their developers names' on the back of the cases. But, it's kinda bad publicity for it, if the game turns out bad. That said, that is rarely the case on GCN.
One thing the gamecube does have over the other two is that we largely take on quality titles. Those that aren't, words spread quickly.

Bad publicity isn't helpful when you're trying to sell games.

Nintendo Gaming / Developers mentioned in games = Sign of pride?
« on: June 05, 2003, 01:36:13 AM »
I have 6 games. Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2. Animal Crossing. Rogue Leader. 007 Nightfire. Crash Bandicoot: TWOC.
I've borrowed Metroid Prime.

In both Monkey Ball games, AV are mentioned in opening credits. EA has the same with Nightfire.  Metroid Prime is mentioned TWICE in the opening credits. Animal Crossing has simpleNintendo .  As does Crash Bandicoot.

More and more these days, we see developers mentioning themselves in their games. I have absolutely no problem when the games in question DESERVE to have their name mentioned (Super Monkey Ball 1/2, Metroid Prime, Nightfire, AC). They are clearly proud of their work they have created. AV even went on to design a level based entirely around the letters AV and SEGA (Monkey Ball 1).

I do have a problem with those developers though - Travellers Tales, who made Crash - Who mention their names, yet the games are plain poor. It's clear fact that games do not port from PS2 well. Crash Bandicoot was very, VERY bad.
New engine = Graphics no different to PS1. Camera is appalling. Buttons can be quite unresponsive. When in levels that combine both, you get irritated enough to snap the CD! The game is extremely linear and did not wow me like Metroid, AC, both SMB's and Nightfire.

What I'm trying to say is, developers should only put their names in when they very well know the game is good, because it has been developed and polished to perfection.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: 2D needs to make a come back...
« on: May 31, 2003, 06:11:31 AM »
I'm not sure how Super Monkey Ball could use 2D graphics. That said, Amusement Vision are talented; I'm in awe regardless of how it comes out.

What would be really amazing is the use of 2, 3 AND 4D all in one game. But not simply, 2D here, 3D here, 4D here. I mean, in a Metroid Prime environment where all have to be used almost simultaneously to accomplish your objective in question.
