Nintendo Switch 2
M.K.Ultra:
I am wondering how folks are using and enjoying their Switch 2?
Personally, I still have my Switch hooked up and running and have only been using Switch 2 for exclusive games. I have played Welcome Tour and Mario Kart World and enjoyed both. I bought the pro controller and overall like it, though those GL/R buttons still feel weird. I pre-ordered Donkey Kong Bonanza and will be getting Metroid Prime 4 later this year.

Switch 2 has been great so far. It's Better, Newer Switch® which is both exactly what it should be and exactly what I wanted. Sometimes a concept simply works really, really well, and there's no reason to futz around with it. This is the first time since what, Game Boy Advance that Nintendo didn't try to completely reinvent the wheel. Even Nintendo 3DS, prioritized the top screen so we saw fewer games do cool things the dual screen setup.
The refinements in Switch 2 hardware make sense. A second USB-C port, magnetic Joy Con 2, rubber pads on the back, mesh grating on the fan vent, and sturdier kickstand are welcome additions. Even though the integrated Ethernet port in the Dock was on the OLED model is appreciated because it wasn't outside of the realm of possibility for Nintendo to take it out.
The Pro Controller 2 is arguably my favorite modern controller. It features more refinements to an already excellent controller: lighter, better finish (notably no gloss), raised Start/Select buttons, bigger face buttons, more ergonomic prongs, headphone jack (!), and improved analog sticks. The right analog stick is actually shorter than the left one which makes sense positionally. Also, the sticks are thinner and don't touch the "wall" of the shell. This supposedly prevents wear and tear including stick drift since plastic isn't rubbing up against plastics. We'll see if this ends up being a better solution than Hall Effect or TMR. I don't know if I'll ever use GL/GR; it's nice to know the option is there. Otherwise, the only things missing from the Pro Controller 2 are the analog triggers and digital click (it's never coming back) and to a lesser extent, the speaker from the Wii Remote.
I read that the screen has ghosting especially in 2D games. I haven't tested this, and I normally do not play in Handheld Mode. A $450 console having such an obvious flaw seems more clickbait than anything. However, I don't want to handwave away other people's concerns just because they don't affect me. This may be more YMMV.
The only Switch 2 game I currently have is Mario Kart World. I don't want to write a big, long thing (yet?) so I'll only say that it's mostly fun albeit sometimes frustrating, and I appreciate Nintendo at least trying to break up the formula and introduce something new to the series. The intermission races are kind of corny. And there are tons of instances in which the game doesn't respect the player's time (notably when retrying or the lack of that option in Grand Prix/Knockout Tour). Getting Mario Kart'd in first place is still a thing.
Micro SD cards are still prohibitively expensive. I'll try to coast until at least 512 GB is available. Also, I'm mildly concerned about the Joy Con 2 connector. I feel like the male end should be on the controller since it seems more likely to break. Then again, I'm not a hardware engineer.

A "Restart" option would be most welcome in those modes. I get having to start from the first race again, but repicking the same driver, kart, cup, and difficulty gets tiresome.
I have sort of changed my strategy in this game since 8 deluxe. There I just went for first place and tried to get as much of a lead as I could. The usual blue shell wouldn't stop me from first. I found that wasn't working so I have been staying in second place and then taking the lead when the inevitable blue shell takes out an NPC. Seems to be working (better) so far.

Well, with Switch 2's becoming easier to come by I figured I might as well pick one up. I'd like to play Donkey Kong and it's not like these things are...ever...going to get cheaper. In fact, they'll probably go quite the opposite. Besides, I've been meaning to give my Switch games more time, and having them run better on Switch 2 might just be the extra motivation I needed to do so. I have no interest in Mario Kart so I just went with the base model.
Spent tonight just getting the thing setup and getting my data transferred off my original Switch, which ended up being more of a "thing" than I thought it would be, especially after how simple previous transfers on Nintendo consoles have been like Wii -> Wii U. There's just a distinct lack of clarity of what it's doing, especially with DLC now considered "game cards". So...is it redownloading all the updates for Splatoon 3 or just the DLC I bought? When I checked the save transfer, I had a LOT of save data for "?" games. Stuff like that could use a lot more clarity in the UI. As it stands, I'll just have to go on faith that the process worked as it should, though I still had to go into my Nintendo account and nuke my Switch 1's access to the "virtual game cards" from orbit, since the transfer didn't do that on its own like you'd think it would.
It's nice to see that Nintendo apparently has no plans to ever create an actual download manager on the Switch series, so you know what is currently downloading, how far along it is, and what is yet to come. It's likewise also nice to see that you still have to manually select every...single...game...on your console and manually tell it all to check for an update. Because apparently no console manufacturer thinks it's worth it to just add a button to have your console check that everything you have installed is up-to-date.
With everything allegedly downloaded and installed that was on my original Switch, apparently I still have 149 GB left of the internal storage, so it looks like I'm going to be able to get away with not shelling out for an SD Express card for a while (especially if I can stick to just games that are fully on the cart). I had been coasting on a 64 GB microSD card with my original Switch, which mostly worked out fine until very recently. Planning on keeping my new Switch 1 Pro Controller (because I quite like it, I just got it earlier this year, and it's fully compatible with Switch 2) and taking everything else in to my local GS to trade towards DK Bananza.
So far, it's hard to say how I feel about this new Switch until I have a Switch 2 game to play on it. It's definitely much faster than the original Switch, but the familiarity of the UI feels like both a positive and negative. It's an extension of the Switch, but aside from speed it doesn't really feel like anything was improved.
