But anyways, that's not the point of this thread. They literally refer to the Wii U as Super Wii in Japan.

With the success and widespread popularity of the Wii in Japan calling it the Super Wii certainly doesn't hurt. Imagine. Imagine all the dedicated Apple fans frothing at the mouths if the next iPhone were to be called the Super iPhone.

Why not call it the "Super Wii" here?  "Wii U" sounds like some Engrish name that Japanese NCL execs that don't speak English suggested and insisted be used worldwide.  But then they introduce this alternate name that would probably work much better in English and it stays in Japan?

It's still called Wii U in Japan. Also, Super Wii isn't really better because "Wii" as a homophone of "we" still sounds like unintelligble nonsense. I thought "GamePad" would have been a good name for the console itself. Whatever. The console is Wii U. Learn to live with it.
