I've never heard of an in-person mafia game before. That might be interesting to try at PAX this August, if we can figure that out this year. Or maybe you guys can try it out at East.

Only person I know that has done the real life mafia on here is vudu. He mentioned it way back during signups for the first Mafia game.

I've played real person mafia before. It wasn't run that well, which = a bad experience.

I played a live action mafia game at a Halloween party last year. It takes all the strategy out of the game. There's no equivalent to the PM system we have here, so nobody can really conspire, which is bad all around, but especially bad for the mafia.

Live mafia is a popular youth group game in my experience. Though at college there was a great version.

Players were given roles with a deck of cards. Face cards meant you were mafia. You turned all of the lights out in a house and wandered around in the dark. The mafia could come up and run their finger across your throat signifying they were offing you. You couldn't say anything and had to follow them to wherever they lead you and they hid your body. You then lay there until a townie (or a devious other mafia member) finds you and calls out "dead body! dead body!" Then you have to rush to find a light switch and turn it on. Until the lights go up mafia can still kill. Then everyone gathers around the body and holds court. A townie can then accuse someone of the murder and a debate is held. Then a vote is made and the 'body' drug to the designated graveyard where they wait the rest of the game. Then lights go off and more night actions of killing. This repeats until all of the townies are killed or the mafia found out or you trip over some furniture breaking it and your arm and the game is halted.

It's really a great game with lots of fun to be had. Worth at least one try. It's up there with 'werewolf' for fun group night games on my list.

Hi everyone! I'm Elizabeth, and I signed up for the forums just before PAX East, but finally got a chance to post today. I saw the live podcast at PAX East and it was great. I recently started listening to the podcast and I really enjoy it. I'm looking forward to checking out more of the forums and the site.

New dude here. I'm just going to copy-paste what I said earlier about me:

"Well, my username is obviously Oblivion, but you can can me Obby. I'm 16 years old and an inspiring video game journalist. I currently have my own website, and I plan on working up to be a well known source for all video game news and reviews. Understandably, that won't happen for a very long time, if at all.

Actually, that's partly why I joined this forum. I've lurked the site for about a year now. I kinda want to talk with the admins, editors, etc., as a kind of job shadow type thing. But since I wasn't even a member of the forum, I knew it wouldn't happen. So...here I am.

I did, in fact, have a wacky adventure, but it involved my career as a spy, so I'm not allowed to talk about that.

And no, I'm not an Elder Scrolls fan. I am, however, excited for Conduit 2, the 3DS, and Bioshock Infinite."

Nice to meet you all.

I'm a bit late in responding, but there is strategy, it's just very different than the kinds used in the forum version.

In the live version the host tells the townfolk to go to sleep (close their eyes) and then the mafia wake up and perform their hit.  The version I played didn't have a godfather, so the mafia would have to debate about who to kill with pointing and wild gesturing (while trying to remain silent because they were surrounded by townies with their eyes closed).

Then when the selection was made (and after the cop/doctor performed their night actions) everyone would wake up and the host would announce the results.  Then the arguing would commence.  Mafia members had to coordinate with each other on the fly while not drawing attention to themselves by obviously working together.  Lots of yelling ensued.

It was fun because there were no private discussions (PMs) so everything had to be done out in the open.  And since we all knew each other, it was easier to tell when someone was lying than it is in the forum version.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Hello,

the name is Quadran. Although I'm a new member here, I've been following the website and listening to the different podcasts for quite a while.

I've always had some interest in gaming, but my profile is somewhat of a lapsed gamer: As a youngster I've been playing games on NES and SNES (never owned one, but I knew friends who had one). This was followed by a long hiatus through the N64 and GC era. When some friends reintroduced me to gaming, the Nintendo console / handheld piqued my interest. Before long I owned a Wii and a Dsi, playing some of new instalments of classic Nintendo franchises (Mario, Metroid, Zelda,...) and other games (Okami, Monster Hunter Tri, Castlevania,...).

I'm looking forward to my stay here and i hope to have some interesting discussions.

Posting from across the pond,
Quadran

Hello,

I'm posting from Belgium.

As for Monster Hunter Tri, it has been a while since I last played the game. I'm still far from completing this game (can one ever complete this game?), even after 200 hours. Because my play style is rather 'casual' (I'm not really a competitive player, as long as I have fun I will play the game), I tend to play this kind of games at a much slower pace than most of the other gamers. This style has a major drawback: a lot of games are competing for the same, very limited, amount of time that I can spend on them. Therefore I've stopped playing Monster Hunter Tri for a while, just to free up some time to play other games like Kirby, DKCR, a Shadow's Tale,... .

Yeah I understand the concern with this type of game.It does tend to take a long time to "beat" it. I guess if your main focus is to just beat all the offline and online quests it can take some time. However if you want to make different and specific armor sets it can take a while longer. I'm not sure if anybody here from Europe has Tri here. I take it you have a European Wii and game right?

Indeed, game and console are both European, which probably is going to limit the amount of forum users here whom I can play with online.

I stopped playing Monster Hunter Tri when I had carved myself a nice set of Rathian+ armour and it would take a long time to get myself another specialised weapon / armour set, which was needed if I wanted to complete some of the online missions without dying to much. If I ever start playing MH3 again, I will need a couple of hours to familiarize myself with the controls, environments and attack patterns, before I can join the tougher online missions without failing miserably.

Hey all, been listening to the podcast since 08' so I figured it was time I got on here.  I currently reside in Denver, own a Wii, DS, and PS3.  My all time favorite games are Mario Kart 64, Uncharted 2, and Tetris.  Currently, I'm playing a lot of Motorstorm Apocalypse and Mario Galaxy 2.  In my spare time I play a lot of Disc Golf and make music.  I finally started a channel for those at http://www.youtube.com/user/SlighTlyKauLField  check it out if you're bored.  Also, can anyone tell me how to add an avatar???

At the top of the page click on "Profile" then click on "Forum Profile".
Then you just need to upload a pic to the site from there.
