Most anticipated game of 2013. I'm only 5% joking.

Why is video no available?  This looks excellent. After Fluidity: Spin Cycle, I'm hoping more eShop games embrace the opportunity to use the 3DS's other features and just make it 2D if the style of game doesn't require depth. More book-style games, yes!

Great stuff, Andrew! Love the sepia-toned logos, too....   I'd add Kirby'd Epic Yarn to the list, and my own personal take on "Ode to Joy" from Wii Music, but I understand how you might have missed that one, ha.

Whoa. Is this the first "freemium" game on a Nintendo platform?
I think it's actually a good idea for a kids-oriented arcade game such as Tank! x 3, but the idea of it concerns me....   still, it's nice to know Nintendo's digital shop is flexible enough to allow this kind of thing if the publisher wants to test it out.

Count me in the "TVii is actually neat/useful" boat. Especially since I just have Broadcast/Antenna TV and so we normally have no on-screen guide or anything. So even just the TVii "grid" feature has been useful so far.

I've spent lots of time just clicking from Show to Cast to Movies to Wikipedia to other Movies, then watching a Trailer... I know you can do this on a tablet, but 1) I don't own one and 2) the fact that this same device can then change the channel using IR, and you can see moment-to-moment reaction from other users on it...  I think it's a great little addition. Not a "game-changer" as Reggie and his cohorts might want to think. But a nice bell and/or whistle.

What @ejamer said.
(Except the "might buy this anyway" part.)

Is Twinbee worth it? I have and actually really like the 3D Classics: Xevious, but the look of Twinbee doesn't seem nearly as interesting to me, even though I've heard it's a much better game.

Might be 300 coins poorer soon.

My wife and I are having more fun with Sing Party than expected...  hopefully this comes over to NA as a downloadable channel one day. Although I fear the pay structure and lack of relative popularity here will doom it to Japan-Only status.

Really glad to see the inclusion of Denpa Men here. It might be repetitive and frustratingly difficult, but there's a magic in looking through the 3DS, seeing all these dudes floating around, and capturing them with a net. The quirky personalities and unique, simple appearance of each Man lifts this up beyond a generic dungeon crawler. I might have given up after 10+ hours (darn you Bog Monster-thing) but there's nothing quite like it anywhere else.

Congratulations, all. What I heard yesterday was fun stuff, and I look forward to catching the other segments in their non-live subdued glory soon.

TalkBack / Re: Penchant for Puzzles: A StreetPass Story
« on: November 11, 2012, 09:00:50 AM »
I live outside of Boston and teach at two nearby colleges. The StreetPasses flow pretty well at each school, and I'll hit up a number of randoms and/or a few regulars with decent frequency. If you're starved for StreetPass action, come on up to Beantown and ride the T (subway) for awhile. That green glowing light still gives me a jolt of excitement.

And am I the only one who doesn't burn through his allotment of Play Coins to buy puzzle pieces? I'll buy a couple at a time, but otherwise I wait until I pass people. I understand that those without other 3DSs around would need to use the coins...   but I prefer the anticipation, the more organic feeling of trading pieces with real people.

And Find Mii hasn't gotten old yet. Once you start to pass a number or regulars, their increased stats can really help mow down those ghosts. Find Mii 2 is a big improvement. I just need to unlock one of the forked paths. But yes, a Puzzle Swap 2 with some new features would be most welcome. (Think they'll send out a Wii U one this week...?)

It's funny to read this thread, then realize all the people are reacting to the out-of-context Headline which has little to do with Miyamoto's actual quote.

And to Ian Sane's point, I'm not sure that a zero-latency streaming controller with a screen is as safe and unambitious as you're implying. I get what you're saying...   but their decisions still seem plenty bold to me. Hell, even attempting to go after the "casual" market in the first place was a bold, risky move. Placating long-time fans to diminishing returns would be the safer (and less successful) route, in my opinion.

TalkBack / Re: Denpa Men Sequel Heading to North America
« on: November 02, 2012, 02:45:35 PM »
I'm so glad I didn't listen to some of the mediocre reviews of this game. Finally downloaded it and love it. Sure, it's maybe too hard for not enough payoff. But the whimsy of "hunting" for floating dudes on WiFi signals and then throwing them into battle, which require some thought and feel satisfying, is weird, good fun. Only wish it offered the sequel's advancements, since that StreetPass stuff and the world map sound very neat.

TalkBack / Re: First North American Wii U Advertisement Video Airs Today
« on: November 02, 2012, 02:41:55 PM »
Nicholas, that's a good ad!
Seriously all they have to do is make an ad focused on that golf scene:

No music. The GamePad on the floor, a ball in the sand. She walks up to it. Swings her remote. Pan up to the TV and there's your ball, flying off into the distance. Cut to logo: Wii U. Fifteen seconds. A million sold.

I was at the E3 2011 conference and that scene got the most audible reaction by far. I hope it still exists as a viable play mechanic, though; I'm worried they tried and the Wii remote-to-GamePad interaction just wasn't right. Our imaginations ran away with the original Wii's potential, and much of it stayed a fantasy. Hopefully Actual Wii U is closer to the truth of what we all imagine it can become.

Holy cow that was incredible. What Stark_Nebula said: Had a smile on my face the whole time. Love the impression Iwata made on Arino.... "He had such soft hands." Fantastic x 1000. And coincidentally (what unplanned luck!) this has made me 10x more excited for Balloon Trip Breeze game in N-Land. Maybe I should start watching GameCenterCX...

Within a Deep Forest is an awesome game.
As for NightSky, haven't played it yet but have looked forward to it for a long time. The asking price might be a bit too much, but I feel compelled to give it a whirl.
Let's average out the two reviews ...  10 + 6 / 2 = 8. A good score!

TalkBack / Re: Staff Sez #9: Fall Anticipation
« on: October 13, 2012, 09:33:59 PM »
After all of the initial "ho-hum"s when it was first announced, it's interesting to see all the anticipation for NewSMBU. I've no doubt it's gonna be a fantastic platformer... but I'm surprised more aren't psyched by what Nintendo Land is offering. I'm definitely with Neal and Josh here. I've only played a couple of the 2011 demos that became eventual games in Nland, but that was enough to sell me on the collection. Really intrigued to see how it all comes together in -- Holy smokes! -- just 5 weeks.

I bet this game sells gangbusters.
Not that it should.
But I bet it does.
At least the 3DS is *only* 30 bucks and portable. Who would buy the 360/PS3 versions for 10 bucks more and stuck on the couch?

Could be 3 out of 4 for me....  I loved Fluidity on WiiWare, but am not sure about rotating my system around constantly. Crashmo and Paper Mario look excellent, and I've been waiting on NightSky for too long to not give it a shot.  Thanks for the extended look.

TalkBack / Re: Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two Impressions
« on: October 12, 2012, 01:50:36 PM »
I passed on the first game, but the better camera, refined graphics, and musical numbers (!) in the sequel is grabbing my attention. Are there 2D platforming sections here as there were in the first game, based on classic cartoons? That was the only thing about the original that piqued my interest. Hopefully they make a return.

Hey Chozo Ghost, buddy, ease up on the harshness, yeah? I've been playing games for 25 years and have loved this gen's "garbage waggleware" like Wii Sports Resort, Wii Music, and whatever else you don't consider "real" games. You can enjoy your 100 hour RPGs. I can enjoy my quirky new motion-control. We're all playing games. See you in the Miiverse...

Just found a copy of the GBA Mario Golf: Advance Tour and have chipping away (no pun) at it....   really fun game. But I'd love to have it on the system all the time, play a few holes here or there. So Mario Golf could be my first downloaded GBC game.  @NWR_Insanolord, why is Tennis so much better than Golf? Just a personal preference or something else?
