Nintendo Gaming / Re: Games you DON'T want to see come out

I would definitely want a new Mario Kart. I love 8 but I'm getting bored with it after playing it for years

Something I have been wondering lately. Is the great RFN Greg Leahy the same Greg Leahy that edits retronauts episodes?

Also a warning, Clannad is a masterpiece but you definitely need a guide. The game has also more text than every Lord of the rings book combined

Podcast Discussion / Re: Episode 685: The Great Yoshi Robbery
« on: August 11, 2020, 03:54:22 PM »
I feel mixed about the Yoshi robbery.

On one hand I feel bad for Nintendo and get where James is coming from. On the other hand you have Andre from gamexplain for example who said in the GX podcast he isn't losing any sleep over how the leaks got leaked.

I personally emulated so many games throughout the years, hacked my Wii, Snes Mini and have recently installed a GameCube emulator.

For some reason I don't think Nintendo is okay with me playing roms and isos. In their eyes I'm stealing games even though most of those games will never get a re-release.

It's all a really gray area

I have 8 3ds systems I use so it's hard to make a activity log. I do have my walking 3DS and it's stepp count:

Great podcast.

In the case of Pokémon, the reason people are upset is that there won't be any way to bring all of your old Pokemon to Sword and Shield. It kinda makes Pokémon home irrelevant.

How things are now is that you have a  local dex that has a select amount of pokemon. Filling that one usually isn't that hard. The national dex is for the Jirard the Completionists. Filing that one is more challenging but completely optional.

They removed the national dex in Sun and moon but you were still able to bring your old Pokemon. That's not going to be possible in S&S. Every pokemon is someone's favorite so there are people going to be disappointed.

I usually really like this podcast but I was a little disappointed about this episode. It felt like the Zidane is a bad character overshadowed a big part of the discussion.

Personally I completely disagree but even ignoring that. Vivi his character arc wasn't mentioned at all and is probably one of the strongest character arcs in any video game. Him having to deal with his own mortality is extremely well written. And there is no miracle, Vivi dies.

Zidane his arc is also really strong. He has to deal with the fact that he is basically a angel of  death. The "you are not alone part" where all of your party members are trying to bring Zidane back from his depression is still one of my favorite video game moments.

Yes he starts the game as thief with a lack of manners but he still has a heart of gold. I highly recommend the Final Fantasy union history of Zidane youtube video. It's really wel made

Also there is the beautiful music that wasn't talked about this podcast. And let's not forget this is a really funny game. Maybe the funniest FF there is.

I like how old episodes are time capsules. Hearing the good doctor in one of the first episodes talking about how Zelda will never go open world or listening to the Day the music died episodes is really fascinating.

It makes you wonder where Nintendo will be in episode 1200.

I think Syrenne scared me away from Octopath.

Don't be. It's a great game. I think she played a different game than everyone else.

Wario Land 2.

It wasn't as good as the first or the 4 one. It's a shame they never ported the VB version, I always hear that's a really good game.

Mr Lindemann said it best, third parties don't have other sources of income. They need all the money a game can make them. Nintendo (or first party Sony/Microsoft developers) on the other hand don't have that problem. They don't need things like lootboxes or micro transactions.

All of that?

Yes, but it was less expensive then you might think. Lot's of bargain bin priced games (from 5 euro to 15 euro) and birthday gifts. The Switch games where the most expensive ones and those where 30 euro's each.

Glad John was back.

Although I don't really agree with the examples the writer gave of games that needed fixes. Arms was heavily criticized for the lack off content. The singleplayer still is quite light on content.
On the other hand, the two most prominent problems Bomberman had (frame rate and control issues) got fixed almost immediately.

My PS4 had to be replaced because he kept spewing it's discs out and turning itself off, luckily there was a good discount.

Dang that's a crazy collection! Good point on N64 titles that require no reading skills like Mario Golf. Does a regular NTSC/PAL N64 just play Japanese cartridges outright? Do you have to break off a few pieces of plastic? If I recall correctly some Gamesharks could also fit import carts into them right?

I have bought this to play import games:

So far it has worked with every game I tried.

That's a lot of Japanese games and Bomberman. Any story behind that?

Japanese N64 are dirt cheap but most of them don't require any reading skills. Even though Bomberman R isn't the best Bomberman game by any means. Bomberman R has awakened my love for the franchise.

Most of the Wii games I bought are because of old RFN episodes. Today "Disaster day of crises" landed on my doormat.

I still think Smash Bros is a safe bet for early 2018.

There needs to be a game to make people want to pay for Nintendo's online service. I wouldn't rule out an November direct.
