It's hard to max them anyway, and they hardly affect your stats so most people barely worry about them.

If you use your EVs correctly and play the metagame correctly, having better IVs doesn't really matter.

Entirely not true at the highest levels, when you're building EV spreads around specific damage output. Speed being the most obvious where less than perfect IVs will bite you, but any missing out on 'a few here and there' will end up making the difference in the long run. You can surely win a tournament with a bunch of mediocrely IV'ed Pokemon, but you are handicapping yourself.

TalkBack / Re: Spin the Bottle: Bumpie's Party Review
« on: August 09, 2013, 05:34:35 PM »
After seeing a couple of videos of play sessions from UK reviewers, I was sold. Even if it only gets touched a few times per year for parties, it seems like a good investment for $9. And future expansions are apparently included in that price.

Now just give us a method (or mini-games) to max out our IVs, and we'll be all set. I really don't want another generation of RNG aware players being the only ones that can be competitive. It'd be much better for VGCs and online tournaments if the playing field was a leveled as it could be.

Nintendo had an idea when they came up with the Game Pad, but no definitive gameplay to use it with in a game. So we see a lot of mini-ideas in games like Nintendo Land and Game & Wario, but nothing that you'd want applied to a game as the base gameplay. Really, the one benefit of the Game Pad that people love is the off screen play, which I'm not sure Nintendo saw a massive selling point originally.

Sadly, off screen television play being the main feature means the Game Pad probably should have been an optional accessory. It would have allowed the Wii U to launch at a far more appealing mass market price, or to ramp up its hardware to compete for the technophiles' money next generation. Now Nintendo is stuck marketing the device that they really don't have any revolutionary ideas about.

If we look at what's coming out for holiday 2013, there's nothing to uses it in a way that changes how you play. Most games are slightly more convenient for item access and maps, that's about the jist of it. So even if something like Mario Kart does utilize it in a more clever way (don't count on it), we won't be seeing that until 2014, or nearly a year and a half after the system launched. A year and a half to finally show why they decided to go the Game Pad route and possibly much later.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: New Leaf layout tips?
« on: June 19, 2013, 12:51:11 PM »
I'm late on this, but accessibility is 'the key'. It's less of an issue in New Leaf, because you can have three total bridges in your town, bringing it together and allowing you to build almost anywhere and still be close to shops and town.

If you really want to have less work, make sure Retail is close to the beach, where you'll probably be making most of your bells.

You can't really go wrong with where you build, but you can make life easier on your if you want easy access to everything. Or you could go like me and build your house way out on a peninsula with nothing nearby, just because it looks cool. This is really a long way to say, you can't play Animal Crossing 'wrong', so just build and do what you want.

Nintendo 64 had an industry changing title in Super Mario 64, which alone puts it ahead of the Wii U's offerings. Wii U does have more games in its launch window (pathetic as it is) than the Nintendo 64, but the quality of original software for the Nintendo 64 was leaps and bounds ahead of what is on the Wii U. There was real innovation going on with the Nintendo 64, as developers were filled with new ideas moving from the mostly 2D sprite based games to fully 3D. The Wii U, which having some solid titles, doesn't do much differently than we've seen before in its games. The promises of many more titles within the launch window (which was original March 2013) is what stings for many as well.

And let us never fight 10 Gigginoxs in a row again.

It was fun as always, guys. Fighting monsters never gets old.

I'm not able to play multiple titles at once as you are. I prefer having one lengthy game at a time, but will occasionally play shorter games (usually 8bit/16bit generation titles), I've been meaning to complete, as I play the longer title. I prefer to keep my focus on the single title, especially if it has complex gameplay mechanics that I need to keep track of, or a story I want fresh in my mind.

If I were playing multiple long titles at once, the likelihood of me putting down one, or more of those titles midway through increasing drastically. And then I'll prefer to restart a lot of titles after a long time off. Especially in any game where you're doing heavy management, with strategy titles and RPGs.

Really it's a matter of preference. If I put 30 hours into Luigi's Mansion 2 over the course of a couple of weeks, or put 30 hours into it over the course of four months because I am playing many titles at once, I'm still investing the same amount of time. To call it nonsensical and try to respect someone's opinion in the same breath is disingenuous.

You're only restricted by Low Rank, High Rank and G rank.

If you're G rank for instance, you can play any G rank quest, even if you don't have it unlocked. But a player still in High Rank won't be able to join G rank.

And once you 'clear' G rank's Urgent Quest, you will unlock your HR. So if you've been playing a lot, your HR will climb dramatically.

If you want a real challenge in Dreamland, Hold DOWN, B, and SELECT on the title screen and set your life bar to 1 and then play on Hard Mode. Basically this means, one hit will kill you. I tried doing a no damage run before, but I couldn't handle it. Haha.

TalkBack / Re: 3DS Miiverse to Launch by the End of 2013
« on: April 25, 2013, 10:13:33 AM »
It's a shame it's going to take so long. The 3DS has a slew of great titles coming out throughout the year, whereas the Wii U will have less than a handful of titles before the Fall. I could imagine using the MiiVerse a ton on the 3DS, so I hope their 'end of the year' projection is just a conservative figure in case they run into issues reewriting the 3DS OS.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Bad news for the Wii U eShop.
« on: November 10, 2012, 09:58:37 PM »
We've known about Wii Mode and why it exist for a while now. The WAD files used for the Virtual Console games are specifically designed for the Wii, which is why you're forced to run through this mode. It's a relative nightmare splitting the Wii Shop Channel and the Wii U's eShop, especially if they end up asking people to buy the same titles once more on Virtual Console.

I'm not sure how temporary it is either. Nintendo doesn't have a great way to transfer licenses from Wii to Wii. So moving them from Wii to Wii U, so you can load Virtual Console games directly from the Wii U (enabling Game Pad play, easier access, etc), in the future is not going to be a cake walk.

At this point though, backwards compatibility is going to be tougher and tougher each generation. Not just for Nintendo, but for everyone moving forward. It's a scary part about the digital future we face on consoles, at least for me.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Street Pass!

I've been really lucky with StreetPass living in Toronto. I grab 2-5 on my daily commute, and have near a thousand total now. Completed the puzzles long ago and have all the hats in Find Mii. It's always sad to hear people on forums and podcast who have passed five people since launch and can't really experience the feature. There are only a few games that use it well, but just passing by someone and exchanging Mii and information is a great experience.

Given that the title isn't Download Play / Single Cart, we won't be playing the co-op. We could justify two copies of Mario Kart, but not for a Mario platformer.

Even the PC version of  Skyrim, there are plenty of bugs (including multiple game breaking ones), but thanks to console the user can bypass most of them in some way. However, it really shouldn't be up to the player to use the console, or to be forced to keep multiple save files to cover their asses on game breaking bugs. Just because it doesn't ruin the experience doesn't mean they should receive a pass on it. I don't think that's a tough concept to grasp. Although I think there has been plenty of reviewers, and communities on the internet that have called out  Bethesda on it, but they still enjoyed their time playing.

Maybe going after the e-mailer a bit too much because he attacked 'reviewers', but the ideal that the bugs are acceptable is crazy. Patching is a blessing, allowing developers to fix a few holes missed here and there, but also a curse because it lets developers push out titles with the idea that 'we can patch it later'.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
« on: November 29, 2011, 02:15:46 PM »
Pacing might have been one issue with the game, but I found the world itself to be the largest set back (even over some of the questionable motion controls). Skyloft is the ultimate definition of a 'hub world', with only three areas below and the sky (unlike the sea in Wind Waker) is very empty. Not to mention that specific portions of the game Pirate Ship felt very empty and unfinished even and the worlds definitely felt like a 'video game level' instead of part of a large world to explore.

I definitely enjoyed the game. Storytelling, mostly because of the colorful and personable characters (even the minor ones) are top notch. But I'd probably rank the title more in the middle of the series, with the overall world design and some motion controls that felt more tacked on because it's on the Wii, and not because it actually makes the gameplay better, hold it back from top tier.

In regards to Kirby Mass Attack, after collecting a specific about of Medals, you begin to unlock the Achievements List. Thus, at the end of the game if you've collected a large amount of medals, you can see all the Achievements.

And if you want more of a challenge, go for No Damage guns, with reward you with Gold Stars. I believe it may just be an Achievement to complete the No Damage runs, but it is a good amount of fun to add this challenge to every level.

I've enjoyed a few of the videos, but I don't understand why they have to rotate them in and out. If there's a very impressive video you want to share with people, it's a shame it won't be around for that long. I agree that saving videos to your SD card would be a feature worth having.
