TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Posts Loss for First Half of 2010
« on: November 01, 2010, 11:26:52 AM »
Nintendo has made such ridiculous money this generation from both the Wii and the NDS that even with this loss they're still rolling in massive dough, and that dough could keep them afloat for a few more generations of failed systems if it came to that... but I think the next Nintendo consoles will be successful as well. Will they be as successful as the ones of this generation or will Nintendo's market share recede? Only time will tell, but either way the massive money they've made these last 5 years is going to make sure Nintendo won't go the way of Sega anytime soon.
Iwata and/or Miyamoto wouldn't let Nintendo become like Sega, EVER. Sega lost their **** because of their fucktarded intercompany policies during the Genesis and Saturn days (seriously, go to X-Cult and read the pages for Sonic X-Treme and the Genesis titles,). They were so damaged that the Dreamcast, while a great system, floundered because of that and the PS2 release.

The Wii Remote plus is getting a stand along release. This game is offically redudent.

And it's made by Artoon. Double negative.

Goldeneye has local multiplayer, limited online, no way to communicate online and is riding the moth eaten coattails of nostalgia. I'll pick it up later for the single player but my holiday time and money goes to Ops.
Wow Activison, Wii may not have that great online but BLACK OPS HAS BETTER ONLINE PLAY THEN GOLDENEYE? A REVISION OF A GAME THAT HAD A LEGENDARY MULTIPLAYER ASPECT IN THE N64 DAYS? REALLY?

Nintendo needs to get the Black Ops developer, ASAP.

I'm one of those people who skip all the text and dialogue in a tutorial and see if I can just figure it out, cause I can just look at my surroundings and usually assume correctly what is asked of me. That would explain why I didn't understand the shake timer sooner.
And it shouldn't be held against you, but then again, the opening was basically a tiny playground for us to play around in before the real adventure started.

To be fair, Virtual Console purchases include a customized emulator with each ROM, so you are downloading much more data from the Wii Shop Channel. It's still not that much, though
I wasn't aware of that.  That makes it slightly more excusable.
We should all also be aware that the DSi/Wii do not have the same horsepower the 3DS will have. Yet in Wii's case, I don't why an update for the Wii Shop Channel to have the same layout of the Nintendo Channel isn't possible.

Though then again, console power may have to be put into consideration.

But to be fair, I think the Playstation Store is just as bad as the Wii Shop Channel, in slightly different ways. (Taxing my purchases and being really fucking hard to read in 480p? **** you Sony.)

Not long, I don't think the game has much mass market appeal.
This applies to all of Platinum's games, sans Bayonetta. That only sold over one million though, so... yeah.

Hmmm, overall this looks good, but there's still no sign of playable demos. I guess I shouldn't be surprised--Nintendo seems philosophically opposed to them for their own games and is therefore uninterested in implementing such an option for third parties.
Then what exactly is the DS demo thing on the Nintendo Channel for? Developers had a voice with the 3DS development, so demos HAD to be mentioned more then once.

For people that had trouble in the Galaxy titles, did you just not wait until the motion timer reset itself? You can't just shake and shake, you shake once Mario spins, give it a second for that little star man to reset, hear the chime and then shake again. I went into the game several hours before I realized that. Wouldn't be surprised if some people went through the entire game like that.
The opening tutorial mentioned that element quite clearly, if I remember correctly.

While the guy was the forebringer to some of the problems Nintendo faced in the N64 days, Hiroshi Yamauchi is the man we have to thank for making Nintendo the company we know today.

Quote
Because of Inafune's current obsession with American developers and how he feels Japanese developers need to make games just like western devs, I don't think Nintendo would want him.  Last thing Iwata wants is a guy with a mid-life crisis who's just going to b!tch about how their own games need to be more like American games and cause a lot of internal drama.

I also doubt he'd go to Platinum since Hideki Kamiya and Shinji Mikami don't exactly like Inafune at the moment.  Inafune is the one who shut down Clover for being too Japanese which is what caused Kamiya and Mikami to both to leave Capcom.
And now I know. Pity that. But good point made LD.

So, what's the word on Mega Man Legends 3? Infune just announced it not that long ago... Does this mean it's now canned?

Nope, it just means that like life, it will go on without him.
I just hope it doesn't turn out to be like Megaman X6.

With NPD no longer releasing any that'll be hard. It did reach the top 10 in Japan though.
I wonder how long it will stay in the top ten though.

Whoa, Rabbids Go Home (Lapins Crètins: La Grosse Aventure) managed to chart at 15 in the YTD sales for France.
Considering the developer is French...

It depends on the game for me. I've not had much of a problem in the Galaxies but half of my friends struggle with the NSMB Wii controls. One of my friends has huge hands so he can't control right with the tiny D-Pad.
Strangely enough, the WiiMote+Nunchuck option for NSMBWii is my favorite way to play that game. I also like the WiiMote only option too, but since my hands are not that big...

Quote
Plus I have two freaking CCs. An original and a Pro. what did I buy them for? Freaking include the option! You did in Mario Kart and Smash Brothers. Why not here? Plus the WiiMote is just smaller than I would like the controller to be. A little bit bigger would feel more comfortable in my hands.
This is valid, but Smash Bros and Mario Kart are two totally different games compared to DKC. One's a race, the other is a 2-D mascot fight with some platforming mixed in.

Ok, maybe Smash Bros can be somewhat comparable to DKC, but... yeah.

To be fair, Virtual Console purchases include a customized emulator with each ROM, so you are downloading much more data from the Wii Shop Channel. It's still not that much, though.

From what I can tell in the video, the user isn't playing Super Mario Land, but rather watching a video from the store itself. That's a great feature to have.
Hopefully they got rid of that GB Limit developers have to use.

Nintendo or Platinum. I'm personally edging towards Nintendo since their systems are where his games are the most famous.

Last two... very iffy.

Me neither, but I'm looking at a more broader range. Hell, never had interest in NBA JAM to begin with, but this sorta **** EA is pulling is kind of hilarious... in a "WHY DOESN'T THIS SURPRISE ME?" sort of way.

And people wonder why third party games don't sell on Wii. HMM...

It's a 3 day event from Nintendo, in Japan. No matter what they call it, I will still call it Space World. See? It's not dead.
I would like to call the Nintendo Fall Summit that too, but old wounds won't heal. =(

Also, will the 3DS store be as slow and cumbersome as that of the DSishop?
Was the DSi's worse than the Wii's?  Please tell me that that's not possible.
Exactly how was the DSi/Wii Shop channel bad? It's not perfect (Live Arcade has a better shop, obviously), but it gets the job done.

You say Nintendo should be called out if the motion controls are unresponsive, and I definitely found the motion control in both Mario Galaxy games unresponsive.
Funny thing, I thought they worked just fine. Maybe your Wiimote was bugging out?

(b) Nintendo provided a traditional control scheme alternative for those that want the precision of buttons over the inaccurate flailing of motion controls.
...Flailing? I remember Shake It needing a quick flick and that was it. You don't need to flail, at all.

So even though it's interesting news, it's hardly something to get your Princess Peach panties in a bunch over.
Nintendo is a company and companies lose money. No big deal. Except for one thing: this is Nintendo, and whenever something like this is reported, Nintendo haters get their (insert female character here) panties wet because it means Nintendo is suffering. Which they are not. An example of a game company suffering is Sega during the Saturn days at the hand of Playstation, N64 and Burnie Stoler's massive retardism. That is suffering.

Wii slowing down in sales in not exactly suffering. As Mop said in another thread, Nintendo makes profits no matter what position they are in. N64 and GCN weren't huge sellers, but Nintendo still made money.

On another note, I bet Epic Games CEO is popping a bottle of wine right now at this news.

And with that, EA has gone bottom barrel when it comes to it's popularity with Nintendo fans.

Though I would lawl if Mario Sports Mix outsold this game.

Uh, yeah, Sega? MARIO. AND. SONIC. TOGETHER. IN A GAME. BEFORE BRAWL CAME OUT. and Mario. just Mario.

"Where I think we provide Sonic for a younger audience, there we have to take innovation ourselves and try and understand and work out what will be the best game for a more 8 to 12 year old audience," he said. "For the core fans, we definitely want to hear what they have to say about Sonic."
I heard Sonic fans are about as bad as Zelda  fans and Final Fantasy fans. They bitch about everything good and bad. :/
