I swear I heard this phrase in 1994... but I was only in grade one back then when DKC came out. Now 1999 when DK64 came out, I heard that a lot. It also got really annoying. Like "Do A Barrel Roll" annoying.

The Super Guide is what a think a way for non-gamers not to be discouraged if they keep losing all the time. Nintendo crafted something wonderful with the Super Guide in NSMBWii, since, if you think about it, if you're a first time gamer experiencing a Mario game for the first time, and you don't know what the hell you're doing, the Super Guide is there to ease your frustration...hopefully.

In Bizarro World, yes. In our world, hell freaking no.
That's your opinion.

Ocarina of Time is the highest selling game in the series and thus a good place to start if they're trying to launch a system and not willing to pull out all the stops for a brand new game. 3DS looks more than capable of handling Gamecube level graphics so porting Wind Waker probably would have been easier than rebuilding Ocarina of Time. Clearly, Nintendo is pulling on the heartstrings of Ocarina of Time fans.
Well great, handheld Zeldas thus far didn't have to live up to Ocarina of Time in the Zeltards eyes. Now that we're getting an OoT rehash for the 3DS, now handheld Zeldas have to be just as good as Ocarina of Time in their eyes.

I'll wait for impressions on Skyward Sword, but honestly, I think Anomura(sp?) is best suited with being a director instead of a producer. His dungeon designs were excellent in OoT and Majora's Mask. No Koizumi makes me cry though

Hey Sega, remember when your then unempolyed(?) Sega of America PR dumbasses said Platinum games were best suited to only the PS3/360 audiences? Kirby's Epic Yarn is beating this game in Japan.

I want to laugh, or be depressed. I can't decide which one I want to be.

If anything, I might just stick with one version of the 3DS... but that's just me.

Yeah.

The only difference between it and an official editor would be ease of use, though I wouldn't be surprised if they cut out some of the more complicated elements like platforms that move on paths.
Moving paths have been in Mario games since the SMB1, I'm sure Nintendo would find some way to move around it. Maybe.

i have seen to hacks of nsmbw level editing, look it up on youtube.
Those are just fan hacks and nothing else. The real thing would be more awesome.

I like the sound the levels getting bigger and more complex as you up the difficulty level, something I was a big fan of in Perfect Dark and Timesplitters 2, but strangely doesn't seem to have been used in anything else since.  I'm still not going to buy the game at launch, but it's something to look into somewhere down the line.
I am certainly not the only one who wants a Timesplitters pack made for Wii... anyone? I loved the objective based missions, though some of them got on my nerves.

I still can't figure out why Shaymin's score is so low.  I think you're funny and/or quality at times.
We broke the system.

yeah but the way NSMBW employs 3d is vaslty different than what mario galaxy 2 did.
Glad someone else besides me notices that. NSMBWii was built upon the existing NSMBDS engine. Galaxy 1 and 2 was built on the Mario 3-D Engine with extra gravity features. Both have 2-D in them, but both are still vastly different game engines.

Full 2-D Mario is still going to sell better then 3-D Mario though.

Then the release has to have some sort of quirk when you put it into the 3DS. If the launch games don't incur that much excitement, then OkamiDen may have some luck in getting sales. If not... =(

Oh, I know you can't complete the game fully. I completely agree with that statement. Just saying if you are person who doesn't worry about finding everything, the roll isn't that important.

In NSMBWii, you waggle when you have a Propeller Suit so you can fly. A little shake, and you're up in the air. Continue to shake? You just spin. The game doesn't abuse waggle (despite what some people may claim), and neither did the Galaxy games.

« on: November 02, 2010, 02:49:19 PM »
But we all know Nintendo is 4-5 years behind when it comes to online. They are making progress one step at a time, and I'm sure this is to test the servers/demo system for the 3DS launches early next year too. So they better do all the testing they need now and deliver an up to date experience when the 3DS launches.
The 3DS is more powerful though, so it should be able to handle this kind of thing better.

No, roll jumping is a crucial mechanic and part of every balanced breakfast.
Is there a bagel or muffin on the side with that?

just saw an interview on ign.com with shigeru miyamoto in which he said that both 3d and 2d mario will make an appearance on 3ds
And we can all guess which one is going to sell better.

I haven't suffered through Shadow the Hedgehog so I can't really make an opinion, but to me personally the 3-D Sonic games go like this:

Sonic Adventure: Did a good job in introducing Sonic into 3-D. Knuckles levels DIDN'T SUCK. Big and his missions need to die. Amy and E-Gamma's levels are so-so.
Sonic Adventure 2: Sonic/Shadow levels got better, but the camera got a bit worse for wear (but the final stage for Shadow... holy clusterfuck). Eggman/Tails levels were... boring. Knuckles/Rouge go rid of the previous search system and replaced it with something more frustrating. It's biggest asset is Rouge's jiggle physics. (yeah)
Sonic Heroes: Long levels like S3&K, but had some unique elements. Tag team system was also unique. What happened? **** load of game breaking bugs and having the play through the game with more then one team to beat it.
Sonic '06 Well **** you too Sega.
Sonic and the Secret Rings: What's this? A game where you play as just Sonic? On-rails platforming harkening back to the 2-D days? A story that was unique?! A side-kick that didn't suck ass?! Eggman is a prince?!! Poor level progression, bull-**** EXP system and insane as hell missions. Camera SUCKED TOO.
Sonic and the Black Knight: Gone is the bullshit level progression and insane missions! Still flawed? In some places. But was it leagues better then '06? Absolutely.
Sonic Unleashed: HI I'M CHIP WANT SOME CHOCOLATE?

8.0 for Shadow the Hedgehog springs to mind.

Did anyone else actually play Shadow the Hedgehog?  It's the closest thing we've had to the stages everyone liked in Sonic Adventure 2, ever.  Oh, and there's more of those stages than in Sonic Adventure 2.  I'm not saying 8.0 is the right score, but it's leagues ahead of a lot of other Sonic games out there!
Will we see a review on PixlBit for Shadow then?  ;)

The Amazon price is down as well, though not nearly as much.
Guess Platinum's main audience is gobbling the game down Sega!  ;)

In the original DKC on the SNES, rolling was an optional move. Could it be used to get stuff? Yes it could, but it still wasn't exactly needed to win the game. DKC2 was the same. DKC3 changed it up with Kiddy's water splash move... which was only useful for a couple of levels.

Now, waggle rolling could end up being the same as it was in the SNES games: optional, but there if you need it. But if it DOES hamper the game design, then yes, it's a compliant and don't see why Nintendo couldn't add Classic Pro support.

But here's another problem: Not everyone is made of money. I don't know how much of the Wii audience has a CC/Pro controler, but it doesn't come with the Wii set itself. Price itself might be a issue, but yeah.

We can't say go out and say arrogance. Economics may have played an issue. And waggle can be done right if the player him/herself doesn't shake the WiiMote forcefully. All it needs is a quick flick.

(Which, if true, is an utterly idiotic reason that should have been solved years ago).
Except Nintendo didn't put enough power into the WiiWii for that to happen. 3DS appears to solve this problem, hopefully.

NP Review: 9.0

Good news is that this one doesn't suffer from 'KEEP RUNNING AND RUN SOME MORE' problem that Sonic Rush levels had, and is surprisingly meaty. Bad news is that boss battles are recycled.

This is Nintendo Power though, so let's wait for NWR/PixlBit/Aussie Nintendo impressions.
