I think we should be counting until the Japanese launch anyway (Jan 24th?) which is only 12 weeks away (we'll know ALL the secret characters a day after anyway...).

So either some of the vets will be unlockable or Sakurai will start doubling up until launch.

Actually, it makes much more sense that, in the 2-3 weeks leading up to SSBB's launch, Sakurai will carpet bomb the hell out of the dojo with updates just to get the hype meter REALLY high. I expect him to pull out the big guns for that just to ensure that everyone is whipped into a rabid fan-frenzy until the launch.

I'm sure they'll leave us in the dark about some characters.  I'd sleep better knowing Captian Falcon is back.  I'm guessing Ness is gone.  But Mother should have one villian in Smash Bros, it would seem strange without one.  If the updates stop at 12 weeks realistically we would get around 5-6 character updates maybe.

Well considering Brawl was originally planned for a December 3rd launch in America, it makes sense that the updates would be slowing down.  Any major announcements that were planned for November before launch would have to be delayed until January now to go along with the Japanese launch.

So in other words don't except too many big weeks for November and December.  My guess is we'll only see about 5 more character profiles unveiled in the next two months, two of them will probably Captain Falcon and Sheik.  Then I'd imagine we'll start to see the second stage for some of the different franchises, like the Mario Kart stage and another Zelda stage.  Everything else will mostly be item and how to play updates, with the usual Subspace Emissary update every once and a while.

Then in January is when the Dam will burst.

I'm sort of curious if you can knock a team mate out of Ikes Final Smash meaning the killer blow wouldn't be delivered.  They seem to hint that way.

Depends if you have friendly fire on or off.

But items tend to be neutral once they leave you.

Thrown items in team battles will still be "team" items.

But like I said, you CAN turn friendly fire on in team games and that does give you the ability to attack your teammate(s). This is useful if you have a "light" attack like Link's boomerang which can be used to hit your teammate and give them an additional up+B, but it takes a large amount of coordination to pull off.

Even with friendly fire off, I remember Link's bombs being able to hurt a teammate.

Right, but Link's bombs hurt Link, too.

With friendly fire off, you can not hurt a teammate with something that can't hurt yourself, with it on, you can.  Explosives can hurt the one who threw them, so naturally, they can hurt anyone in range.  Most other items can't hurt the one who threw them, so they can't hurt teammates with FF off.  Think Peach's turnips.

Still not a good reason. Most games where you turn off friendly fire you can't hurt your teammates at all even with stuff that would damage you!

Whether you think that's a good reason or not, it's fact.  If an item could hurt the user, it could hurt the user's team, as well.  That's how the game works, or at least, that's how previous iterations of the game worked.

To clarify, the bomb would sail past your teammate if you threw it, but if it exploded near them, it could still harm them.

That new Fox one appears to be a variation of his "Wingmen Call" easter egg from Melee...And I'm still in love with Ike over his...

Yeah but naughty words could show up and make the kids playing the game demented. Nintendo can't allow that!
