Podcast Discussion / Re: Episode 172: Handbaskets Ahoy!
« on: February 01, 2021, 08:50:30 AM »
I haven't listened to Radio Trivia in a long time, but I decided to listen to this new one and I was surprised that one of my game selections (from a long time ago) was used!

Really enjoyed it. I will go back and listen to episodes I have missed.

Really great summary of this event, thanks! It's really amazing to see watch these highly-skilled players perform in Smash Ultimate.

I don't get it, honestly. I really don't. I have only heard of one other person even speak about getting an NES Classic, and I personally considered it for a fleeting moment before I realized that half of the games on it aren't very good. At all.

To you, maybe.  I was 6 years old when the NES launched.  These are my seminal gaming experiences.  I was 13 by the time I got another console (the Genesis, first, the SNES, later).  I played the NES incessantly in my grade school days.  These aren't just some old games to me, these are *THE* old games.  This is the origin of my gaming hobby.  It's worth $60.

You and I must be around the same age, as I was 5 when NES launched, which I finally owned when I was 7. Of course the NES and its games have a special place in my gaming life.

But the NES Classic doesn't appeal to me because I have already purchased and played a bunch of these games multiple times on the Virtual Console systems going back to the Wii. I suppose it might be nice to have the plastic console on display to remember the original NES, but ... I don't think it's that important.

But anyway, I know this article was more about what is Nintendo thinking on ceasing production on a popular product. Yeah, I don't have an answer on that.

So many options for the Mii characters but you can't even use them in For Glory.

As it turns out, Art Academy is actually a Nintendo-ass-Nintendo game ...

What?

Sounds great! I'm glad to hear about the fun single player as well. I didn't have a chance to play the online demo so I don't have a good feel for the game yet, but I'm looking forward to playing it.

Hmm...  I'm gold status, and just about every game on the list is one I have or one I don't want.

Same here. I'm not complaining though, it's nice these rewards are available for those who are interested.

Farewell, Club Nintendo!  Despite the non-stop griping that went on, I got a lot of value from the program and will miss the little freebies being sent my way.

Yeah, I'll miss it too, but looking forward to the new program, whatever it may be.

What size memory card is included with the system? I'm assuming it's pretty small.

Always happy to hear about the great eShop games out there, especially since I tend to overlook some of them! I'll be sure to check some of these out.

Yeah, I'm not sure how well this game has stood the test of time, but personally, I'm still very pleased to see it finally released on the VC purely for nostalgia. It was one of the very first RPGs I ever played and it really left a strong impression on me and undoubtedly started my fascination with the genre.

I do have the SNES cart, but it's always nice to have the VC version for ease of replayability.

It does make sense, and I truly hope we see it as soon as you mention in your article, Neal. Nintendo needs to give us the official confirmation, asap!

I have a broken circle pad on my 3DS XL and getting it fixed is quite expensive  :@ ! I'd rather spend the money on a new system, and I've been waiting and waiting for New 3DS because of this. The ability to play my (unopened) copy of A Link Between Worlds hinges on the new system release!

The game sounds awesome. I wish the first game would come out for Wii U as well, as I always prefer to play an entire series rather than jump straight to the sequel.

I enjoyed my 50+ hours of ACIII. And 40+ hours (still going) of IV.

People tend to overlook these titles on Wii U but there is nothing like it (Lego City maybe) on the console. Of course it runs on "console framerate", but if you care about you should have got it on PC. Inferior console ports or not, both still look gorgeous.Sure, it's formulaic, but if you loved collectathon 3d platformers of old and refuse to give AC series a chance then you're being stupid. Because AC is exactly that.
Totally agree. I had never played an Assassin's Creed game before, but I picked up III fairly early on in the Wii U's life and absolutely enjoyed it (I even reviewed it back when I was editor on the other Nintendo fan site). I also bought IV but haven't had a chance to start it. Looking at your Miiverse posts though, I am excited to get into it.

Anyway, it's too bad the games didn't sell that well, but there's not much that I can do about it anyway. If Ubisoft releases more games that appeal to me, they get my sales. If not, I have plenty of other games to play on my Wii U, so in any case it's not a big deal, personally.
Just looking back at my own Miiverse posts:

Nintendo Gaming / Re: StreetPass Relay lowered to 3?
« on: May 14, 2014, 12:52:27 PM »
Yay! I stopped by Starbucks today and got my StreetPasses, so at least now I know it's definitely up and running again.

I only got 3, but luckily they all gave me new puzzle pieces, and I was able to get the last piece to complete both the NSMBU and M&L: Dream Team panels.

I guess today's not my day: I just stopped by Burger King where I always pick up StreetPasses at the N. Zone and didn't get any. I wonder if the relay stations reset recently and I'm the first one to pass StreetPass data? I don't know.

I'm only on the second world, but wow, this game is amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed all the DKC games since the SNES days, and it just amazes me what Retro can do with the franchise.

Just the Mii Plaza (still working those puzzle pieces! I'm making progress), although I did turn on the StreetPass feature for Pokémon Y now that I've really started playing it. Can't remember what it does though.

Are the StreetPass relays working again? I haven't had a chance to hit a Nintendo Zone lately. Last week, no matter where I went (McDonalds, Home Depot, Burger King, and so on), I wasn't getting any StreetPasses even though the Nintendo Zone was working just fine (& these are places I regularly get at least several StreetPasses whenever I visit).

Podcast Discussion / Re: Episode 124: Disc of Deceit

It was great to hear from Greg again!

Great episode.

I had a feeling I knew what game #1 was, but for some reason I thought Theatrhythm had been on a prior episode. The game doesn't appeal to me too much because I enjoy music from games I've actually played, and a bunch of the Final fantasy games are not even on Nintendo consoles.

Of course, I wouldn't have been able to guess game #2 considering it's not an American release, but wow, that is an amazing Super Famicom soundtrack!

I own game #3 but I wasn't able to identify it! I guess I just didn't remember the music all that much, but yeah, it did have a Wave Race Blue Storm sound to it (which I do own the soundtrack CD for). Avalanche was a pretty cool GameCube game.

I was able to guess game #4 even though I haven't played Dream Team. You guys were right about being able to identify the series even if you haven't played this particular game!

And I definitely knew what game #5 was. Although, honestly, it's not one of my favorite Metroid soundtracks. But I did enjoy the game very much.

« on: February 04, 2014, 09:38:18 AM »
Cool, thanks!

Finished listening, good episode! I had a good laugh, haha, especially with poor little Luigi.  ;D

I was able to guess the first game even though I haven't played it yet (Fire Emblem Awakening) because that 2nd song definitely sounded like something from a Fire Emblem game (I've played most of them).

I had a feeling I knew what game 2 was (Super C) based on the 1st and 2nd songs, and that 3rd song made it easy to identify. I love that Konami NES music!

The bonus question was a big clue for game 3. I took a wild guess and I was right! I've never played the game (Fragile Dreams) but I've heard so much about it.

I had no idea what game 4 was (Young Merlin). I definitely remember reading about the game in Nintendo Power, but it never appealed to me.

Once that 3rd song played on game 5, it was easy enough to identify. Yeah, I liked EBA a lot!

I only missed one game, not bad

New episode, will listen!

I was wondering: did the thread showing which games have been featured on Radio Trivia Podcast Edition get moved somewhere? I couldn't find it.
