TalkBack / Re: Christmas Today, Christmas Yesterday
« on: December 21, 2012, 11:23:59 PM »
Enjoy Christmas while it is carefree now, it can get very stressful later. I have spent the past month trying desperately to keep our bank account above 0 while unsuccessfully hunting down some rather hot toys (blasted Shellraiser).

I can appreciate what your grandmother did for you, my mother has been going out of her way to pick things up for our kids, because she knows how tight things are for us. One hand I am grateful because I know they will have a good Christmas, but on the other I feel bad because I am not the one getting everything for them.

One word of advice, don't build it up too much in your mind. My son fell asleep at the tree his first Christmas and did not even care about what was going on. Granted he was less than 2 months. My daughter is 7 months now, but I am still not sure what her reaction will be. Enjoy what makes her happy.

Seems like most major hardware has some sort of issue with launch these days. Shame it finally happened to Nintendo. I rather enjoyed all of the Jurassic Park references you slipped in there too BTW.

Lucky you, that story is awesome. I do wonder how much extra all that gear cost you though. I asked my wife if I could spend the money to get the Wii U when it launches, since I know we are getting some in at work and it will be easy for me to score one. When she finished laughing I promptly wrote my letter to Santa. Here's to hoping.

No Firday the 13th or Nightmare on Elm street? I enjoyed this feature but would like to see more length to it.

My personal pet peeve: when writers gloss over the part I am looking up the help for. I hate when I read a section and it says "this fight is easy, just kill the monsters" or something like that.

Keep trying that last level of Mutant Mudds. I was stuck for a while on it. Basically you just need to get the timing down perfect and suddenly it will just click.

TalkBack / Re: Skylanders Giants Exclusives Coming to Specific Retailers

Well I just let out a whole string of expletives. It was Hell tracking them all down last time. I hope this are only timed exclusives and not actual ones.

61
I really wanted to love the game but the controls absolutely ruined it for me. They simply did not work no matter what I tried. I really felt like I was button mashing instead of having any actual control. I thought Twilight Princess was awesome (and deserved a spot on this list) and have already replayed it. I will probably never replay this game. The only enjoyment I really got out of it was the neat golden Wiimote.

62
I knew this was going to be up there and I could not disagree more. Oh well, I am not going to convince anyone at this point. Kind of curious what is left to be #1.

If this works with Directv (they have a history of being jerks to products like this, see the Roku) and they are able to get HBO Go to work with it I will love it. Otherwise I will probably never use it.

We getting a Wii story is a lot less interesting than yours. Much like now I wanted one but could not possibly afford it. On Christmas morning my Mother told my wife and I she was buying us one as a present, as soon as she could find one. Knowing how bad the shortages were I was prepared to wait a while. A week or so later I came home from work and sat down on the couch. I glance over at my pile of presents waiting to be put away and noticed something new. A Wii. Apparently my Mom had stopped at Walmart on her way home and while shopping they announced that they had 1 Wii available, first come, first serve. She drag raced some other lady to the department, got their first and scored it. I quickly set it up and popped in Zelda (which I had bought on sale at Target in November, the price was too good to pass up even though I did not have the system).

The only thing I have ever waited in line for like that was the 6th Harry Potter book. We preordered it and got to Barnes and Noble around 5pm. They had several people handing out numbers, announcing they were going to be letting us in in batches, so the number was not our exact place. I scouted them out and saw who had the lowest numbers and jumped in their line. We ended up number 12. Once 11 hit they had us line up in our sections and I forced my way towards the front. We ended up being the 3rd into the building. I had the exact amount in cash ready and put it on the counter. I was the first person out the door. I held the book aloft like you did your Wii and the 600 or so people waiting let out a cheer. I will never forget that moment.

Your attitude and mine match up pretty well. I do not expect to hear about anything new at all. Retro's game will not be mentioned in the slightest. As much as I want to be excited for this system, I just can't bring myself to do it. For the first time ever they are launching a system where I do not care in the slightest about any of the Nintendo games that will be on it. It is a weird feeling.

I enjoyed the first 3 Guitar Hero games a bunch, although I really suck at them. I never get past medium difficulty. The thing that killed music games for me was when they started adding all of the instruments, I could not longer afford the games. I have been debating Theatrhthm for a while now, but I am not much of a FF fan. If I have the extra cash and I see it at a good price I will probably pick it up.

Podcast Discussion / Re: Best of the Wii: Wii Sports Resort

Funny, I really did not like Wii Sports Resort and gave up on it pretty darn quickly. I found most of the games, especially frisbee to be impossible to control, an issue I also had with Skyward Sword. I wonder what it is about Motion Plus that does not work with me.

Greatly enjoyed this Nintendo Year, I look forward to more.

One thing I found interesting was the part about getting your first console on launch day, despite owning every Nintendo console and most of the hand helds, I have never gotten one at launch. The NES, SNES and N64 were all Christmas presents from my parents right after launch. I think the GCN was out close to a year before I got it, my wife gave it to me as my wedding present. The Wii was a gift to both of us from my parents, we received it the first week of January after launch. I was given the NES GBA and Zelda DS Lite as presents, and I bought the 3DS myself with some cash I was given for my birthday when the price drop happened. Never really thought about it until now. I would like to make the Wii U my first, but I am not sure if I will have the money/ if it will be worth it to get it at launch.

I picked up NSMB2 on sale at work and I am enjoying it greatly so far (granted I am still in the first world). Part of that might be that I have never really played a New Super Mario game before. I never played the first one at all and was trying to play through the Wii one with my wife, but a minor accident involving throwing her character down a pit ended that pretty quickly.

I do not really see where all the hatred toward the game is coming from, but that could be because the series is truly "New" to me.

I don't mind having the slow seasons on the eshop personally. I am so far behind on games it is not even funny. If a lot of games came out every week I would end up missing most of them. I realize it sucks for power gamers, but for people like me it works out well.

I have one from just after launch (late December or early January) and it has no problems yet. I used it pretty heavily a few years back when my computer died and it was my only means of accessing the internet. As of late my son plays a few of his games on it and I play when I have the free time, which is not often.
