Mafia LX: Holiday Murder Mystery Mafia - Final Day of Christmas
« on: December 13, 2013, 02:32:11 AM »
Tensions were high and no one seemed to have any solutions to the problem. The weather outside had taken a turn for the worst. With snow up to a foot deep and climbing, leaving was a less than desirable option. The house was remote. People tried using the phones but the lines were dead. Killed by the storm brewing outside or from a malicious source could have been anyone's guess. More adventurous folks went to the vehicles to discover none would start. Cell service was spotty at best so for all intents and purposes they were all trapped.

Khush and Insanolord began shouting ideas of what should be done. Neither of them liked the other's ideas. Quickly their opinions devolved into arguments. Arguments devoled into a fist fight. Finally others pulled them apart but Toruresu began to egg them on. Temper's flared and the two were at it again. Insanolord threw Khush out of the window onto the porch and ran out after him. Khush, The Townie, charged at Insanolord, The Townie, and threw him back against the railing. The wood creaked, then gave way and both men tumbled to their death below.

People then gathered in the entry hall of the mansion to decide what their next move would be. Silenced attempted to rally the troops with a long speech on how humans are intelligent and resourceful creatures who are able to get our of the most difficult of speeches. He talked some more...and more and more. People began to nod off.

"HO-HO-HO!" Bellowed a voice from the top of the stairs leading from the attic. Santa Clause stepped out of the shadows. "Merry Christmas! I've brought presents for everyone during this dark time! Here! A Doctor Kit For lolmonade! A Super Seeker Kit for Pokepal! And... where was my .22...? *BANG*

Santa stood there in shock for a minute "Ho-Ho...." He then fell forward and tumbled down the stairs and let out one last "Ho...". Jrlibrarian, Santa Clause, was dead.

Looking up at the top of the stairs, Glad0s, The Godfather, stood with the smoking gun. "I am so glad that guy is out of the way... I am Jewish after all."

Out of two side rooms came Toruresu, The Vote Changer, and Spak-Spang, The Mafia Goon, armed with weapons of their own. The remaining Townies were outnumbered.

Glad0s chuckled "Happy Hanukkah!"

End Game

Summary
Khush, Townie - Death by Vote Tie
Insanolord, Townie - Death by Vote Tie
Jrlibrarian, Santa - Death by Mafia Hit

Mafia
Glad0s - Godfather
Spak-spang - Goon
Toruresu - Vote Changer
LucarioBoy - Vote Nuliffier

That would be a perfect win for the mafia! Congratulations!

This was one of the hardest games I played.  Not the hardest, because it didn't keep me up with anxiety like some others did.

I want to say I am lucky to have had such a great team.  Glad0s and Toruresu did some great plays to keep suspicion off of them.

I feel I was a lucky liability.  I played a very risky game, and at any moment I could have lost it for my team.  It was interesting, because we were not very coordinated, just a few Private messages throughout the day.

I honestly believe Spak was our star player having had infiltrated the townies. Khush, how does it feel? :)

Glados killed, Spak danced with the townies and I played my game!

You were right all along.  But my power play was just following Khush like a lapdog.  Khush wanting to stay alive and needing people to trust him…was all that I needed.

You were too opportunistic for voting off Khush, and his Day 1 mistake would leave a perfect bandwagoning opportunity for the mafia the next day, hence why I was led to believe stevey was your partner.

I didn't change my vote because I intercepted a rather interestingly-titled PM from Khush that struck me as a mafia and he was gloating about playing me. I kinda fell apart from there.

Khush reached out to me via PM early in the game, and while I was hesitant at start, his continual openness to share information was what swayed me to believe he was townie.

Man, Kudos to him, though.  He helped shape some of my opinions towards people who could be truly suspected as Mafia.  The unfortunate part is that most of the time was spent trying to vote not-Khush, coupled with it being a very, very short game.

Either way, people quickly thought that by day three, Khush had to go.  I went along with the anti-Khush vote of Insanolord eventually after initially choosing Spak-Spang, but that put us in the situation we found ourselves in now after Inanolord offered to sacrifice himself by removing his Khush vote, and Spak sneakily removed his vote, keeping it a tie.

In retrospect, I probably should have went along with the bandwagon and voted Khush out when I logged back in later last night.  With him being the only one dead and proven innocent, some of his theories would have held much more weight, with those left, and us townies could have maybe had one last chance to change the momentum.  Inactivity didn't help either.

I'm disappointed the game was so short more than the fact that we didn't win.  A big thank you to the host of this game for organizing and setting everything up.  I thought the theme and day summaries were both entertaining & humorous, and I had a lot of fun.  Look forward to the next game.

So as it turned out it didn't matter if we both got killed by the vote or not. Also, Khush, I told you the Lucariofan thing was suspicious and you used it as further reason to come after me.

To be fair.  There was little you could do to prevent the tie.  You had to have a lead of at least 3 votes.  I changed my to a no vote…but if I needed to make a difference of 2 up, I would have changed my vote TO KHUSH.  However, I didn't want to do this because I didn't want to be noticed.

Then the vote switch was standing by just in case.  It made it very hard to get that win.

I was suspecting more players to switch actually.  I figured there was more going wrong than right and people would realize it was all a lie.

Overall, I thought this game was good.  The mafia had too many powers, but we never used them…so that balanced it out.  And the townies were able to hide and protect their roles.

Two interesting things about the games.

1)  The participation prize had an interesting effect.  The person who got that power was free from night action, but it also meant you say the need to vote them out more.  Khush became the targets of vote outs because how powerful he was posting.  Nobody could defeat him if he posted more than anyone else.

2)  I think Santa's power should have been a day action…which allowed the powers to be used as a night action.  This became evident as it was hard for the townies to plan an action and strategy for that days events at hand.  The townies abilities were always a day behind what they needed.  For instance if Day 3 you had the Vigilante role you could have won.  Taking out one person in the mafia I think we would have crumbled.  However, it would be hard to guess Day 2 you would need the vigilante over the Doctor or Investigator.  I mention this, because the role giving ability was originally my idea, and Stratos tested it out for me.  Overall, I like the role, and I like what Stratos did with it.  Santa's role goes to a helper and the townies are more fluid than the mafia.  Roles change hands, strategies can be changed and formulated against the mafia.

Well, that means Pokepal148 was Santa's Helper. He is the only player left to fill that role and it makes sense why I could never find it coupled with the fact I thought he was hiding a role but chalked it up incorrectly as a mafia role.

Santa's Helper. Curse that role! I was searching high and low for it and nobody was coming forward with it. I needed to find it day 3 and if I'd known Pokepal had it, then I'd have known there was a traitor in my townie alliance. So many near misses and cases where I had a 50/50 shot and took the wrong option everytime. I'll do a mafia autopsy later although most in my allaince knew what my thinking was because I was trying to be as open as possible this game and keep them up to date with my thoughts so most probably know where things went wrong but the mafia may be interested.
Whoever said, "Cheaters never win" must've never met Khushrenada.

My heart sank when I saw Khush search Mop it up and Glados. Mop it up was dead and Glados would come back as Townie so I knew Khush was so close but doomed to stumble. I thought he would recover in time to make a come back but he just kept striking out.

It's weird, but I feel like it's easier to figure out who's who from the sidelines. I'm going to guess that it was Spak-Spang's idea to pick me for day one, as revenge for last game since he seemed to really hated how I played for some odd reason. Either that, or Toruresu and Spak-Spang thought I had a good chance of figuring them out if left alive. Can't really think of any other reason I'd have been viewed as a threat.

I told ALL of you Spak had a power play going and Glad0s was suspicious.

I must really suck at this.
Eh, you got it right, so how do you suck? Sometimes it's just out of your control whether people listen to you, especially when there are other players speaking more loudly.

So, I would love to hear feedback about the mechanics of this game.

How did the new roles work (or not work)?

What was your thoughts on the participation aspect?

I know the Helper role had issues, but how would you recommend fixing it? Make Santa and his Helper(s) into a 'Townie Mafia' where they all know each other? I thought about doing that if the group got large enough where Santa and two elves were all aware of each other and each helper had a usable role power.

I feel more confident with hosting with my heavy and varied work schedule because at least half of the game was run from my phone. But if it was truly terrible I will try to avoid using the phone as much.

I really liked the participation aspect but I always thought it might not be balanced. What if a mafia member had won? What would've happened?

Also, the mafia won without lucarios power (nullifier) and I only used mine once. I was tempted to do it day 2 but canceled it. I wanted the townies to think the vote changer was one of the no show players, and it worked.
I must admit I was secretly rooting for Khush, it was fun seeing him in action, specially when he named 3/4 of the mafia. Mop it up I'm not sure, but I think the kills were all glados' idea.

I've always wanted to play a mafia game with 2 mafias, have we ever done that?

There was an Animal Crossing one way back before I joined that had two mafias, Coons vs. Foxes.

And I don't know. Like I said, I didn't really push forward on my suspicions. I'll take responsibility for that.

Second game in a row where I sensed a power play and didn't do anything about it.

I'm convinced that Khushrenada threw the game intentionally. He clearly acted like mafia member trying to block anyone else from the participation award, his investigations on Mop it up and Glad0s were very odd choices on players that aren't much of a mafia treat or townie help, his defense seemed overly outgoing, engaged in bandwagoning, he constantly brought up the killing of good players and tried to link that to the reason why the game was lost.  He's trying to instil guilt and doubt into anyone that might go after him as a threat in future games in a classic lose the battle. win the war move.

Don't let yourselves be deceived! Remember, Khushrenada doesn't make mistakes but deliberate acts of war. Vote Khush

I think my Eternal Darkness mafia had two mafias...or one of the proto-versions did. I don't remember if it turned out that way in the final play edition.

I took a lot of 'secret/dual team' ideas from that game for my never played World Ends With You mafia. I wanted people to be tied together in pairs where if one died, the other fell too, or died the next day automatically. I never got the balance right before I dropped it. I'm going to start playing with it again now that we got this crazy train rolling again.

So currently I'm working on:

The Mummy Mafia
Mario Party Mafia (with Mop it up)
World Ends With You Mafia

I always loved coming up with the ideas. Maxi and I spent hours bouncing ideas off each other for our games back in the day. It's a shame he left.

I know Lucarioboy wanted to do a Halo mafia and I shot him some initial ideas but he never responded after that dialogue.

Mop it up -- it was NOT Spak's idea, it was completely mine. Your silly, non-sequitur post on the first day led me to believe you were trying a little too hard to look innocent, so I decided to knock you off.

I also need to give most of the glory here to Spak -- most of the strategizing here was all on his part. All I did was choose the kills and try to act innocent.

This was my first time ever in the mafia, and only my second mafia game (in my first I was knocked off day one). I had a great time, and I'm definitely down for the next one whenever it happens.
