« on: December 26, 2012, 09:46:23 PM »

Now with download play for up to two players!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/32880

Super Mario Bros. 3 is coming to the Nintendo 3DS eShop in Japan next week on January 1. The title will retail for 500 yen.

This iteration of the game will feature download play for up to two players. No specifics were given about what modes the download play will be utilized in, but it will likely be used in the Mario Bros. two player mode.

There is currently no word as to when Super Mario Bros. 3 will come to the Nintendo 3DS eShop outside of Japan.

Not the GBA version with eReader levels built in (or even optional DLC)? Not interested.

While I'd welcome the additional levels, I can't stand the voices they gave to Mario/Luigi when they finish levels/pick up powerups/etc.

I'll buy this and then I'll buy th GBA one later. I say people like me are the reason Nintendo releases things the way they do, but if they were really basing it on my habits the releases would be a lot more frequent.

I don't want the NES version. Give me the SMAS or SMA4:SMB3 versions. I didn't buy it on the Wii's Virtual Console because I had the superior SMAS version on Wii, so I don't think I will buy this one either. I like it though, and would like a handheld version.

I am GLAD they are not releasing the GBA version. It's a bastardize version of the original.
The only thing i'd like to see is the controls shifted for (y) (b) gameplay, as well as a 3d option.

I will buy this twice!

The GBA version is superior. Yes the voices got annoying, but otherwise it was a great version.

Nintendo just needs to Four-Sword'-itize the 4-player Mario Bros. Classic from the GBA Advance series for the DSi/3DS.

And do the same for the Mario vs. Luigi mode from NSMB.

Maybe even the Boo vs. You mode from Dx for good measure.

It is ridiculous how many times I've bought this game, but it's just so good that I feel compelled to have it on every system I own. Damn you Nintendo. Damn you.

Seems a bit odd for this to be the game they enable the 2-player mode, SMB3 doesn't have a particularly strong 2-player element.

I annoys me that Nintendo is so inconsistent on when they enable two-player modes on 3DS Virtual Console games.

GB Pac-Man would have been an instant purchase for me *and* I would have bought a copy for my co-worker, just for the 2-player mode.  Tetris and Quarth are two games that are strongly enhanced by a 2-player mode - and the VC version is just missing half the game.

I have a suspicion it's because this mode just lags too much for Nintendo. It's through Wifi isn't it.
Have they included it in NES Ice Climbers, didn't that game had both players simultaneously on a screen?

I used to play Super Mario Kart over 56k; I doubt that is a problem.

Yeah, I can't imagine they can get Tetris DS to work locally with ten players and no lag, but can't make the VC version of Game Boy Tetris to work with two players and no lag.

But you forget they want to put as little effort into the VC releases as they can (at least for 99% of them).

No doubt - but that goes back to my original point - why are they so inconsistent on it?  Why go through the effort to put it in friggin' Ice Climber (which, seriously, who's going to find someone to play that game very often in 2P mode?) and not put it in Tetris?!?
