I have work at 5.

So I may have time for a game or two before then. But I'm game for after work if anyone is on. I usually need to blow some steam after work these days.

What are the pros and cons of each weapon?

The Hammer does high impact damage & has charged swing attacks depending on how long you hold the button down. Downside is that there's no defense to it at all. Even items that increase guard or add auto guard are voided.

Bowgun of course is great for shooting away at a distance & there are different types of ammo for different situations. Kinda cool that you can customize them as well. Downside is of course monsters typically don't keep their distance when attacking.

Great Sword is another hard hitting weapon like the hammer but you can actually block with it. Has a charged slash too. Only downer to me is that you move -really- slow while it's drawn. You'll find it more effective to sheath the sword & run over to a monster that moved across the area than to walk over there. Not the fastest swing either but with such a wide horizontal slash you don't always have to be facing whatever you were aiming at to hit it.

Sword & shield is light, fast attacking & has a shield. Not very strong so you'll have to strike fast & often to make a dent.

Haven't spent much time using the lance. From what I can tell it's a great stabbing weapon & the shield with it basically turns you into a walking phalanx. Think there's a forward rush attack in there judging from the times a lancer has bowled me over... Have to ask someone else here what the cons are.

Longsword... Only ever used one in the demo. Not sure where the power stacks up compared to the other weapons but it have some pretty cool combos(with practice) & a Spirit Slash special attack. Doesn't block but has side & back step evade-slashes. Only downers I can think of for now are that you don't get the most out of it by spamming one button & the one Spirit Slash combo I could do in the demo ends with the hunter auto-sheathing the sword. Looks cool but kinda stupid if the boss ain't dead yet.

Switch-Axe is a transformable sword/axe. Axe mode has longer range & a nice combo or two. Sword is closer ranged but I believe the stronger mode. Cons? Sword mode runs out of gas when used too much & you'll auto change back to axe mode while the gauge recharges.
Mission...complete?

Yeah, I'll be on shortly. Just got home.

On the matter of Lances, they are slow like great swords so that is a con. You can block nearly every attack if you play right. The charge is done with the minus button. It does bowl over other players but can get you in a lot of hits if your weapon is sharp enough.

I think the axe mode is stronger than the sword mode with the switch axe. Axe mode is similar to a hammer to my understanding (not tried a hammer yet). Sword mode is good for close combat with other players as the axe mode can trip up people like an axe can.

Long Sword movement is faster than lance or great sword and attacks are slow until you build up your attack gauge. Then you can whip out really fast rapid attacks and your bar glows stronger the more hits that connect. I didn't know there were more than the one spirit attack. I'll have to look and see what else I can do with it. Long Sword has become my favorite weapon. Used to be lance in the beginning. Now I switch between Switch Axe, Long Sword and Axe primarily. I do have a Sword & Shield I use on gathering trips since it can stun the kelbi to better collect horns and I gave it a bunch of gathering bonus decorations.

Thanks for the pointers guys.

I am leaning towards the Switch Axe and hammer to try out.

I can't craft the Switch Axe yet or the long sword so I will have to try out the hammer.

Stratos I'm going to hop online and try out the hammer on some early missions. I am HR5 now and got some better armor so I should be fine.

I will be at the usual place so when you are done come join me.:)

Wow played 2 hours and 30 mins.Sorry for keeping you up Stratos. Now I just need 2 more Monster Bone M for the hammer I want. Now we know to go after the Trick the Trickster quest for those items. On the bright side though we got lots of other items for use.

That was my goal. Bag you a crap ton of swag. That's why I captured most of the monsters on hunts as well (or...tried ha ha.
when I didn't get carried away and whale on a monster until death.)

I was also hoping to push you to level 9 but 7 is a good point for our night. You're almost ready for your first urgent quest.

Remember to save everything you find in the game. Never know when you will need it for something. I sold off all my monster fluid early on and then found out I needed it for a specific axe. And after that I stopped being able to easily find it.

A lot of difficult to acquire material can be earned from completing sub quests which was why I was always trying to complete all of them.

Yeah I haven't found any Monster Fluid yet. I need it for one of the village requests offline. Most of the items I try to save. Any items I don't think I will get used I sell it when finishing quests.
