Since I never bought the xbox, I may buy the xbox 360 to play current games and next gen.   If it has a DVR...

Dreamcast didn't fail because of the games.  It failed because Sony killed all hype for the system.  If Sony can do it again, I'd be really surprised.

Sega also had the worst marketing campaign known to man, had multiple failures before, AND didn't put out some of the best games that were associated with Sega.  A lot killed the DC.

DVD Burning? PC Like features? Tivo?

Admitedly i dislike this alot.

Depending on how well it is done, I'm interested in the TiVo feature.  It would be a better price at an extra $100 than buying one seperately.  It will need to have all of the standard features in a DVR, though: the ability to record one channel while watching another/playing a game and an easy TV Listing menu interface.

I believe TiVo is unavailable in Canada.  Since Canada and the US always get the same hardware does that mean we have to pay the same as the Americans for an extra feature we can't use?  I'll bet they didn't think that out.  It's the "what if I don't WANT the extra feature" problem taken to country-sized levels.  That's millions of people unable to use a feature.  Now combine that with Microsoft's HD focus which again isn't useful for a very large amount of potential customers.

These guys are getting way too into this set-box junk.  The PSP has superior hardware to the DS and had a bigger and better lineup of games from day one yet it didn't sell out it's initial shipment.  Why?  Because it came with all sorts of crazy crap not everyone wants which jacked up the price.  The PSP is like a billboard in front of Microsoft's (and Sony's) nose reading "don't get carried away with the non-gaming stuff."

If the Xbox 360 costs $400 with all sorts of bundled crap and the Nintendo Revolution, with better hardware specs, is only $250 or so Nintendo's back in the saddle.  MS is getting cocky and making a mistake and they're only in a distant second.  One big mistake and providing Nintendo doesn't also make a big mistake and Nintendo's in second.

and adding these things are just to make it more atractrive. Just like Sonys DVD player made it more atractive in 2000

I am surprised they did not do a tvio like system with the original xbox.  With a HD, internet acces (tv guide updates), why not do a tivo?  All the goods were there.  I dont think that is extra 'crap'.  If the hardware is present, why not? It would be dumb on MS part to not include tivo in Xbox 360.  I am using 'tivo' in the PVR way.

steveey Nintendo has a better shot of getting FF games than microsoft does *points at FF:CC, FF:tatics advance,FF:1 and 2 and the FF3 remake for DS in dev* sure its not that much but it is a dent to the once exsiting Sony only square-enix.

I agree with all the junk added in the 360, case and point why I didnt buy a PSP because of the prohibitive cost as a portable game machine I already have a portable DVD player with a 7 inch widescreen that I payed 170 dollars for. And I dont really feel like buying UMD movies for 19.99 - 29.99 when I can get DVD with better quality and more things included on the disc for 9.99 - 19.99.

When I saw the GDC Xbox 360 presentation  I thought it was garbage since the Xbox is already capable with the HD features.

On g4 they were talking about a xbox 360 ff game but who know they full of crap

The folks on G4 might have been talking about this game, being made by former Square minds.  Certain individuals on G4 are known to muddle up details.  Frankly, that's probably a better exclusive than an actual Final Fantasy game, though it will not have the same name recognition in North America.

The Xbox was able to play "DVD9's"...   like you mention, it can play dual layer DVD movies just fine.

Any mention of this from Microsoft is a prime example of marketing at it's finest....
