TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Power Set to Stop Publication
« on: August 22, 2012, 04:59:39 AM »
Print magazines are obsolete and it's just a matter of time before all those other gaming publications mentioned end as well (and it can't happen soon enough IMO).  It's non-sense for them to blame Nintendo for being difficult and not adapting to future technologies. Nintendo HAS adapted. We have The Nintendo Channel which has replaced Nintendo Power for game news and tips and Club Nintendo which sends out the posters and other merchandise Nintendo Power subscribers used to get. There are hundreds of sites that offer game reviews of course. It's the magazine publishers who are stuck in the past, not Nintendo.

Still, I grew up with Nintendo Power and it's sad to hear a little piece of my childhood is dying. But honestly this should have happened AT LEAST five years ago. Who knows, maybe as a tribute they could start calling it "The Nintendo Power Channel".

I think third-parties have finally realized they were too late in the game to really take advantage of the massive success of the DS and especially the Wii and don't want to make the same mistake again. So they're coming out with the full-fledged support right from the start on Nintendo's latest game system.

TalkBack / Re: Wii Party Release Date Revealed
« on: June 02, 2010, 12:33:35 PM »
I suspect Wii Party will be Nintendo's big casual release of the holiday season in the US while Zelda (or possibly just Pikmin) will be the hardcore counter-part to it.

I always wondered why Nintendo dropped the 2-player turn taking with Mario 64. True, turns could take a lot longer, but it would have been nice to have the option.

We still know very little about SMG2 so it might still be a possibility.
The Galaxy titles are more linear and platform-based than Mario's other 3D adventures so the turn-taking would be more appropriate. The other player could take on cursor-duties and collect stars while waiting. There could even be the option to swap characters at will

Ok here's a tantalizing possibility. Could Galaxy 2 feature the Koopa Kids now that they've been reintroduced in NSMBWii?
How amazing would it be if each Koopa Kid had his/her own planet to lord over.

TalkBack / Re: New Super Mario Bros. Wii is Fastest Wii Seller Yet
« on: December 08, 2009, 08:31:47 AM »
I would probably say Brawl is a better game overall but New Super Mario Bros Wii is not only a great game but has an amazingly wide appeal.
It appeals to older gamers who grew up with Mario as well as younger gamers who may not have grown up with the plumber but can certainly appreciate his colorful, fun world. It appeals to hardcore gamers with its rather surprising amount of challenging gameplay and endless replay value as well as casual gamers with its straight-forward controls and auto-play feature. It's also the perfect title to attract people who don't play video games at all. This is the kind of game that parents/GRAND-parents/girlfriends/young children who don't play video games will get into it when someone in their household invites them to join in the multi-player mode. Basically it's a game for EVERYONE. The only possible exception being the so called "hardcore" anti-Nintendo crowd that HATE this kind of game and won't even give it a chance just because it doesn't have a massive 3D world and tons of blood splatter. But isn't that the secret to the Wii's success? It shunned that one particular audience that formerly had all the power and won over everyone else.

Come on Nintendo make my Christmas by releasing either Mario All Stars or Yoshi's Island before the holiday season ends. I get the feeling the big virtual console release for Christmas may end up being Super Smash Bros though.

Nintendo just needs the right game to come out and revitalize the Wii in Japan. Release a Nintendogs for Wii. Or perhaps that "Kittendo" game Miyamoto was hinting at.  Of course the eventual Dragon Quest title might help too.

Anyone else kind of want to see a new Donkey Konga on Wii with downloadable bonus tracks, Mii integration, and maybe even online play. ANYONE?

Looks amazing. IMO this totally makes up for the lack of Street Fighter 4 and Resident Evil 5 on Wii.
This may just be the most "hardcore" game of the generation.

The Wii Fit Plus stand-alone pricing is awesome and the updated bundle is sure to cause a re-surge in sales.
A definite win for Nintendo and non-gamers. The new DSi colors are cool but I when I do pick one up it will be in black. The black Wiimote and Nunchuck are nice but releasing them without the Black Wii is kind of lame. I'm more interested in what appears to be a black glove for the Wiimote. I wish Nintendo would simple sell that instead.

I wonder if the black Wiimote will come with the Motion+ add-on.
If so I'm all for it. I think it needs to become a new standard.

When are we going to get Yoshi's Island on the virtual console? For that matter why not Mario All Stars now that all the individual titles have been released separately?

TalkBack / Re: Punch-Out!! and Starfy Are Getting a Whole Lotta Love
« on: June 08, 2009, 10:30:04 PM »
I think someone at Nintendo of America simply decided that ExciteBots was a sure flop that no amount of marketing could save and decided not to even bother.
It's a shame because it's a great game with tons of replay value, but the concept of racing mechanical bugs just doesn't appeal to most people. It has however gained a strong cult following and in time, I think, will sell well enough to justify its existence.
How about instead of complaining about Nintendo poorly marketing one game, we praise it for doing a kick-ass job marketing two others. It's about time Punch-Out gets a revival and Starfy comes to America. Let's hope the ads lead to strong sales and future sequels for both.

Even though it shames me, I will admit I haven't touched Brawl in a while.
Has the actual online multi-player improved or is still as slow, laggy, crash-y as it used to be?
Also, how have its sales held up? It clearly hasn't had anywhere near the staying power on the charts that Wii Fit, Wii Music, and even Mario Kart Wii have had (which is sad) but I hope it's at least keeping up with Melee.

DO WANT.
I think this title will be a big hit not only among the obvious casual non-gamers but among Nintendo's most hardcore of fans as well. No more waggle mini-games, this is legitimate 1:1 ratio controls with fully fleshed out games modes if the impressions are any indication.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: So we still don't know...
« on: June 04, 2009, 07:57:57 PM »
I think Nintendo did hold back a little. It announced enough to appease people but probably held back on a lot that could have really blown us away.
Notice how people are not bitching about Nintendo having a terrible show or catering exclusively to casuals this year. Course they're not exactly claiming Nintendo as the undisputed winner of E3 either.
MS and Sony's shows didn't appear to be all that impressive either. A handful of big games between them along with two very obvious Wii rip-off accessories with no REAL games to go along with them.

TalkBack / Re: Hudson Offers Two Brand New Help Wanted Trailers
« on: May 25, 2009, 10:50:45 AM »
Mini-game collections have a bad reputation on the Wii because there are 1) SO many of them and 2) most are just rush-jobs from lazy developers. However, with enough effort, mini-game collections can be a ton of fun which the Warioware series has proven time and again.
Help Wanted definitely has a unique concept and art style and it does seem like Hudson has put some real effort into it. The real make-or-break will be the controls which is where most of these type of games fail on Wii. If Hudson can pull this off, I could see this being a serious new franchise.

TalkBack / Re: Red Steel 2 Will Require Wii MotionPlus
« on: May 13, 2009, 04:08:15 AM »
I really hope this is the year of MotionPlus at E3.
It will be great to have Nintendo's booth filled with games featuring perfect 1:1 virtual controls while Sony and MS are most likely deputing their pathetic gimmicky motion controllers which, at best, will be as impressive as the original Wii-mote which be obsolete at that point.

So to me, 2008 was the year fans really started hating Nintendo.

Anyone who's been around long enough should remember that Nintendo's fans started hating the company around the second year of the N64. We're talking nearly a decade ago. Maybe even before then but the internet as we know it didn't really exist prior to that so it's hard to say.
People think the Wii has bad game droughts and delays, but it's nothing compared to what the N64 went through.
You'd go to a Nintendo forum like this one and there would not be ONE positive comment about the big N. It was nothing but pure hate coming from the "supposed" fans.
There were E3's WAY worse than last year. Remember the year the "BIG" title was Pac Man Vs. That caused a backlash that put the one last year to shame.
But if history has taught us anything it's that people have short memories. After last year's disappointment Nintendo is sure to roll out the crowd-pleasing reveals this E3 and all will be forgiven if only momentarily before the hating starts up again.

TalkBack / Re: New Nintendo Power Confirms Red Steel 2
« on: April 29, 2009, 12:35:08 AM »
Weren't there rumors that this was cancelled by Ubisoft, supposedly because the Wii was too "casual" - the usual BS.
Glad that wasn't the case. The original Red Steel sold well despite sucking if the sequel is at least a "pretty good game" and sells just as well it will definitly help the Wii's image problem.
