2 weeks until Switch overtakes PS4 LTD.  Just as Sony was cowardly announcing the PS5.

Oh damn, looks like only 2 weeks before Switch actually overtakes PS4 in Japan, nice!

Edit - oh nickmitch just said that. Well, now it's twice as true!

It really doesn't make sense that it hasn't even been announced. Rockstar ported L.A. Noire to the damn thing, but not their best selling game ever.

If I remember correctly, Rockstar has a feud with Nintendo going back to the GameCube/GBA days, so it doesn't surprise me that they aren't porting one of their own games to the Switch.

Any more details on this? A search didn't turn up anything on a feud between them.

Looking past that era, we did get Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars on the DS... but that was a decade ago.

I think it has something to do with what happened to Body Harvest on the N64. Reddit seems to have something on it.

I hope Japan promises to ride that game as much as it rides its bikes with Days Gone.

Three years ago when Nintendo was floundering with the Wii U and the PS4 looked like it was going to cruise into being this gen's market leader if you told me the Wii U successor would overtake the PS4 in sales I would have thought you were nuts.  This is like a sports team finishing last place in the league and not getting the number one draft pick because they traded away their first round pick winning the championship only a few seasons later.

The morale of the story is that Nintendo has always had the talent to make the games people want to buy.  It's usually a matter of them not making the hardware people want to buy usually by lacking industry standard features and focusing on gimmicks with limited practical usage.  A controller with a big touchscreen was not a concept that most people would give a damn about - a console that also works as a portable is.  The secret to succeeding in the console market is to make great games and not get cute with the basic design of the hardware and hope that developers and customers will "please understand" obvious deficiencies.

The 3DS showed that Nintendo games were still popular with the mainstream public.  Hell, Fire Emblem managed to become bigger then ever on the 3DS, despite it being a niche series before.  The Wii U was just the perfect shitstorm of everything going wrong.  Price was too high, the name and design made some think it was just another Wii add on, marketing was just horrible, and it's big flagship launch title had a cheaper 3DS version released just 3 months earlier.

Of course I still say the last one was the biggest issue for the Wii U.  So many of it's biggest games already had 3DS versions released before them.  Nintendo was asking people to buy 2 systems with the same games, and when one is cheaper then the other and its games are coming out first, who's going to spend an extra $300 to buy what they already own?  Yeah the hardcore will know the difference between NSMB 2 and U, 3D Land and World, Smash Bros  For 3DS and Wii U, but nobody else cares.  And then when the 3DS also has major series like Pokemon and Animal Crossing and the Wii U has no counterpart for them, it's no surprise why the 3DS was the main Nintendo system for the majority of the world last gen.  By the time the Wii U actually got unique titles to finally stand out like Splatoon and Mario Maker, it was way too late.

Of course you have to remember this is Japan as well.  As soon as it was announced the Switch was a hybrid it was guaranteed it was going to surpass the PS4 over there.  The way Japans society is, a portable device is always going to have a major advantage to a home console only.  It was always a matter of when it would pass instead of if over there.  That's the thing to remember, the Switch isn't just the Wii U successor, it's also the 3DS successor.
