Even if it IS just one person reviewing everything, if you point out an incongruency, the reviewer will just be like, "but the scores aren't meant to be compared to other scores!"  Which renders them meaningless.

I still support the ice cream flavor-based scoring system.

Awww, 4/10.

But is it fun?  Will I like it?

I know most staff disagrees with me on our purpose as reviewers, but I'd like to hear what you guys think. How do you consider reviews? Do you read them to gauge purchase-ability? Or do you read them for other reasons?

Personally I read reviews to get information about how the game works and what the experience of playing it is like, so I can decide if it sounds like something I'm interested in trying for myself. If there are obvious problems like bugs, load times, or things that just don't work the way they're supposed to, I want to know about those too, but I pretty much ignore the reviewers' opinions.

The January Charm for my town is someone has to catch a catepillar there- Yes. A catipillar. In January. T_T I've called the bluff and began gathering my scattered flowers and making patches where no one can run and trample them. If anyone's down to defy the obvious and catch an insect in the dead of Winter then come to No Where. I dare you.

Are you sure it wasn't a centipede?  I've never heard of a caterpillar in Animal Crossing, but you can sometimes find centipedes by hitting rocks with shovels in the evening (even in January).

Got this game on Wii today.  So far, it's... okay.  Just more of the same.  I've only played guitar so far, but the GHWT controller compatibility seems to work fine (the touch pad thing doesn't do anything, but that's no big loss).  There are quite a lot of repeated songs from GHWT.

Oh, and the game consistently locks up if I ever look at bandanas in the store.

Honestly, if you already have GHWT I'd say don't bother with this unless you can find it cheap.

Make as much money as you can now, so tomorrow you can order the most expensive stuff in your catalog a bunch of times and amass copious points.

Greg's sexy voice, Crimm being so angry, Lindy being so snide, and Jonny being so obstinate makes this more than the run of the mill podcast.

Oddly enough those are all my least favorite things about the podcast (except for Greg's sexy voice, of course -- ooh la la!), but I still like it and I don't understand this sudden hate-on for it.

My favorite part recently is Greg's increasing perturbation when James runs a subject into the ground (such as the Boom Blox box art).

Looks like WFC may actually be working today.  It didn't take me a ridiculously long time to connect.

My Nook is buying turnips for 115 Bells apiece today... not great, but decent.  My gate will be open probably for the next hour or so if anyone wants to stop by.  I also still need to unload this kitten on Maxi.

That's the same problem I've been having.  I guess WFC is just messed up tonight.

Have you guys actually been able to play online recently?  I've tried to connect several times tonight and I keep getting disconnected from Nintendo WFC, or if I do manage to get a list of open gates, it just times out when I try to connect to one of them.  Just wondering if there's something wrong with Nintendo WFC or if it's just me...

Well just try not to get into a habit about shifting time forward. I know with me that is what ruined AC for me because I did it so much!

Yeah, in principle I don't like time travel, but I consider this a special circumstance because it's a once-a-year event and I can't bail out of visiting my family just so I can play Animal Crossing (even if I might like to).

(Jingle comes at 8, but hopefully you found that out by now, Maxi)

You guys are pretty forgiving.  OK, so Rock Band 2 on Wii finally has the features that Rock Band 1 should have had.  For me, that doesn't make up for the insult that was the Wii port of Rock Band 1.  If anything, it makes it seem even more insulting because it proves that their claims about how those features weren't possible on the Wii were complete bullshit and that it was just a cheap, lazy cash-in that stil managed to come out a year late for some reason.  I'm a little reluctant to jump back on the Harmonix love train after that disgusting display.

P.S. Other advantage of GHWT: good guitar controllers.

I've been stocking up on hats and glasses, so I wore lots of disguises and managed to trick him into giving me the whole Jingle series.  I ended up with duplicates of a couple of items; I may offer those up if anyone needs them to complete their series.  I know I had an extra bed, and maybe a lamp and wardrobe?

(I'll be away from the Wii for the next couple of days, so I time-shifted forward to tonight so as not to miss the Jingle event.)

However, I don't think that E3, or the flak the game has received, has scared actual Animal Crossing fans at all. Many on the boards have picked up the game and seem to be enjoying it, and even I succumbed and bought it, against my better judgement since I quickly tired of the DS one despite loving the GameCube one.

That's pretty much the same experience I had, but I've already sunk more time into this one than I ever did on the DS.  For some reason I just had a hard time getting immersed in it on a handheld (plus I hated the DS controls).  I know this is pretty much the same game I've been playing since the Gamecube, but I just don't care because I still like it so much.

Huh.  Sounds like I'm having too much fun with Animal Crossing to enjoy this episode, so I think I'll probably just sit this one out.

Does anyone know if Brewster can hold an unlimited amount of Gyroids?  I've been stocking him up almost every time I pull one outta the ground and was hoping I didn't have to worry about running out of storage space.

He'll hold one of every type of gyroid.

We need a friend code topic for this game.  EasyCure, I'm adding you... mine is 3051 0764 2053 (band name: Labrynth of Zeux).  (yes, I know that's not how you spell labyrinth.  It makes it more "metal")

Oh, and here a couple of other differences in the Wii version: on Wii, the slider notes are not connected by a purple line (they're just translucent and sort of purpleish), and apparently it's missing the option to "create your own gig" in career mode (so if you want to play songs other than the predefined gigs in career mode, you have to do it one at a time.  But you can still make a setlist of up to 6 songs in quickplay).

Speaking of 8.0 score, TAWK almost reaches that, but I give it a 7.9. Sorry, no talkback for their podcast.

7 Points are due to Karl. .9 points to his stoner gang.

I pretty much agree with that point breakdown, although I did like the nerdy guy who doesn't care about music and was all into the LHC (at least I think that was the same guy).  But I have to deduct points for the guy who hates science and sounds like Spinner from Degrassi: The Next Generation.

I think I'd go with more like a 7.5 overall.  It has potential, but there were some flaws that I'd like to see addressed in the sequel.  Most of that can probably be chalked up to the other guys' limited podcasting experience.

Download Electro Rock, I haven't played it yet, but I watched a video on YouTube, it's fucking amazing. I guess you really can do awesome **** with the song creator.

can you post to said youtube video? if its as good as you say i'll definately give it a download this weekend when i have time to play.. and when i'm not making awesome **** of my own ;)

Isn't that a Neversoft made song? It has vocals.

I'm pretty sure Electro Rock is a real song, not made with the song creator at all.

« on: October 29, 2008, 07:10:15 PM »
I dunno, we only got a couple of songs from the Metallica album while the other consoles got the whole thing.

Quote
The Raconteurs Track Pack and Jimi Hendrix Track Pack will be available on Xbox LIVE® Marketplace for Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft for 440 Microsoft Points and on the PLAYSTATION®Store for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system for $5.49.  In addition, the three tracks from The Raconteurs Track Pack will be released as single downloadable songs for Xbox 360 for 160 Microsoft Points, PLAYSTATION 3 system for $1.99 and Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection for Wii™ for 200 Wii Points.
The conspicuous absence of Wii in the first sentence, combined with the conspicuous absence of Hendrix in the second, is a little troubling to me.
