Elebits is awesome, as many of you know, you are able to trade levels and such that you have unlocked for edit mode. Well, let's get a list of people goin' so we can have fun with the sandbox gameplay that Elebits has to offer.

My friend code is: 3146 7946 7542 9108

Despite the complaints above, I'm having a lot of fun with this game. I read a few complaints about the timer, but the frantic nature of the game forces you to find new ways of doing things and being more creative, which I think is the true genious of this game.

I perhaps will start a "I own elebits, let's trade levels" thread tomorrow.

Having tried two first person shooters for the Wii, I have to say that, even though it's an unpolished port, Call of Duty 3 is a far superior game than Red Steel. Guys, I know we're all excited about first person shooters on the Wii, but Red Steel isn't going to be our Halo. Meanwhile, give credit where credit is due, and try out CoD3.

I don't think anyone buying a Wii really cares about DVD playback, so why is everyone freaking out? This isn't like the days when the GameCube didn't have DVD playback when it had to compete with the PS2, because DVD players were not as common and buying a ps2 and instead of a GameCube and a dvd player was actually a good deal.

You don't have to make n64 games 3d. In fact, the n64 is probably easier to work with because you'd have to cut a lot of corners to maintain a steady frame rate on the Snes. Also, N64 uses a hardware more standard compared to the SNES in relation to today's modern hardware, aka, more documented hardware.

Surely Nintendo will supply some sort of updated devkit for VC - I doubt the original devkits for the consoles VC supports are available outside of a museum. I'd imagine they'll supply something like a PC build of the various emulators plus PC ports of the relevant toolchains - they must have something like this for internal use anyway if they're planning on releasing updated versions of any VC titles.

I agree with this. Nintendo isn't going to send people Nintendo 64 dev kits. They are going to be sending out working emulators with some Wii extentions. If I were a developer wanting to make a VC game, I would just find the best n64 emulator and get a basic mechanic down on n64 hardware until more info comes out of Nintendo on VC development, that's probably your best option right now, because surely by the time you have created some sort of basic idea Nintendo will be releasing some information on the VC dev kits.

Nintendo Gaming / Is Nintendo Right?
« on: June 08, 2006, 09:56:33 AM »
Okay, we know Nintendo's stance on the gaming industry today. It's been said by Iwata, Reggie, and many other corporate big heads at Nintendo, and that stance is, the gaming industry is breaking down and becoming less creative. I never gave it much thought because I thought it was completely obvious that today's games are lame compared to the games of SNES, until I read this article. This didn't make my mind change, but this made me realize. Have we gotten so big that we've turned into just another faceless industry, manufacturing the same crap just as Hollywood does? These guys seem to make me think so. Note their attitude towards Madden. These guys do not concern themselves with art, rather, but pushing money.

An industry having too much money can lead to all sorts of problems. (This is kind of where you get into social issues and political views). It's my stance that money has a tendency to make people lazy as hell, and now that publishers like EA no longer have to struggle with it, they are not motivated to produce top notch stuff. In fact, they don't feel the need to reinvent the wheel.

That's where the Nintendo DS comes in. Is it successful at what Nintendo is trying to do, as in, give developers more incentive to be a bit more creative, or is Nintendo fighting an already lost cause?

In my eyes, the original Mario is worth $20 if it's portable. However, we are talking about the Wii -- a console within someone's home. Plus, I don't think people in the US are as nostalgic as Japan.

Hopefully Reggie will step in and tell them what's up.

That's my point. Four dollars is not that much, it's not a lot compared to $20, so if it's a good game that's hard to find, or just a good game that I don't have, I'm willing to shell out $4 for it. Sure, I could have a NES and try to mess with the shotty slot loading mechanism, have a GBA and pay $20 each, or peak around every dark corner on the internet looking for the roms. Or, I could just have a Wii and pay $4 each for those games, which to me, having easy access to them working properly, is worth it.

Sex in the movie is a no no for me, unless its related to the story, but I dont see how scifi relates to sex at all, it would look cheap and out of place, sex scenes can add to the plot, but it takes a genius director and writter to do that, and as I said, the setting doesnt fit with sexual action. I want something in the lines of Alien, a spectacular movie that didnt need any sex scene at all.

I would have to disagree here, because the movie Alien has plenty of sexual related things in it. In fact, many times the writers of this movie have said they take advantage of our human fears of certain aspects of sexuality.

People paid a lot more than $4 for direct ports of NES games on the GBA. Yes, lots of people will pay $4 for a NES game.

Question to Nintendo if you are watching:
When are you going to release the black DSL? Do you know how many people are holding out for a black DS/L? We don't want to pay import prices and we don't want to paintit ourselves. PLEASE release the Black versions of the DS & DSL in the US soon.

I am in the same boat as you, but I think as soon as I see it on store shelves I'm going to freak out and buy it anyway. Damn you Nintendo.

One of the things I love and respect about the Nintendo DS is those weird little games that are only out for it. Right now I'm looking for a really good weird game for the DS, so I wonna know what everyone's favorite weird DS game is. So far I'm a big fan of Nintendogs, but I wonna know what everyone is thinking I should take a look at.

Guys, I'm sure all the problems you are mentioning isn't going to be true with the Wii.  Emulators are not made by full time developers, they are typically made by homebrew and open source developers killing some free time.

Comparing to how much Microsoft has shipped for the 360, 6 million until March is a really big number.  That's roughly 1 million a month. That's huge.

I like Dan's. Good economic writing.

Here's mine.

Subject: Main Use for the DS Lite (what gaming devices are really used for)

Body:

Popularity. Think about it. You're sitting there alone in Starbucks, kicking back a Coffee Grande, with all the college girls talking to only the emo dudes who are proclaiming their absolute immasculenity, and then you are like "Hey, baby, check this out," and then you pull out your DS Lite from your leather pants, open it up, and the Nintendogs start barking. They all fall in love. Evil/emo loses. You go home with the girls. Please make this me 8-)

So far I disagree with the general opinion about Nintendo's service. Anyone who's ever played Xbox Live knows about those spoiled 12 year olds calling people who kill beat them fags.  And also, I never play with people I don't know over the internet, and if I am so bored to be doing so, I don't want to hear them or see what they are writing.
