I'd say reading the Metroid Prime 3 save should be an expected feature and if Retro doesn't offer it you have a right to complain.  It's the same game on the same system.  You should be able to import your save.  But with the other two?  With the changes they had to make importing your save might not be so easy.  I would consider it unrealistic to expect that feature.

It depends on how they have the save file system set up.  If they have it designed so all three games save into one massive save file, then I can see it not importing the Metroid Prime 3 data...maybe.

Who cares if it can read your GC save files? The point is to play through the games again. I think the hard modes are already unlocked in 1/2 on Wii.

I agree with Metroid Primes 1 and 2, especially since they went to all the trouble to add Achievements to those things.  It'd be a real waste to just skip right over that with your GC save files.  I do kind of hope that Metroid Prime 3's save file carries over, because my best friend borrowed the game; got bored just before reaching the Pirate Homeworld; and now is playing a bunch of other stuff.  I'd rather not rush him through MP3 when he doesn't want to play it just so I can have the game back and the subsequent trade-in credit.  I'd rather he could just use his MP3 file on the new version.

This is really apropos of the new episode, which you guys haven't heard yet, but I want to type it so I don't forget it...

Today I realized how awesome a new on-rails Star Fox could be with four-player online co-op. (One person plays Fox, another Falco, etc.) Finally, you could talk back to your squad-mates and actually do something strategic with them.

That would be very cool

Yeah, it would be so long as you could still play the game competently solo as well.  Wouldn't want a repeat of Resident Evil 5's idiotic Sheva AI during offline play (which really hurts the experience), would we?

it would be nice if they added online  to the multiplayer in Prime 2. It was kind of fun, but limited

Meh, it'd be nice if it was there but I could live without it.  I'd rather they spent their time putting fun into the game, a feature that got cut from the original release due to lack of time and an inexplicable drive to make the game "darker" and more challenging than the original (something that was a bit of a plague going around at the time, as it also hit Prince of Persia around the same time).

The problem with that logic is that it's not like it would be any cheaper if it were just 1 and 2, they're just throwing 3 in as a bonus.

People should be infuriated, I mean why would you want to pay $50 for 3 games (one that is pretty new) instead of $60 for two games? I am so MAD.

Just to play Devil's Advocate, what about those people who want to pay $30 for 1 game (Metroid Prime), because they don't like Prime 2 and already have 3?

So far it sounds like the game is interesting for the duration of the demo but gets tiring thereafter.

And this makes Infamous different from every other Sandbox game ever made?

ok...so to buy the Wiimakes of Metroid Primes 1 and 2 (which I want), I have to also buy another copy of a game I already own (Metroid Prime 3).  Really, there was no other way?  Well, I guess that's trade-in credit towards Ghostbusters then.  If it wasn't for the price this would bother me a lot more than it does.  They would have sold MP1 and MP2 for $30 each anyway.

I still think that Nintendo will release NPC! MP and MP2 individually but who knows. Even if you want to buy MP1 and MP2 for Wii that's 60 dollars, the triology is 10 dollars less.

Indeed.  It's just that originally the only game I was going to get immediately was MP1 since I don't like MP2 all that much (but was willing to give it another chance with the Wiimake).  So that's $30 for the game I wanted vs. $50 for the game I wanted; the game I don't want immediately; and the game I already own.  It's not a big deal, just a little annoying.  If I didn't know better, I'd say Nintendo did this to ensure that people would actually buy Echoes.

I picked up the game last night and honestly it's not all that great.  I enjoyed it, but it can't even hold the wax dribblings of a candle to the magnificent Persona games.  It's also ugly as sin and has next to no production values.  Plus, it's kind of eerie how the characters are designed with those wide-open eyes and creepy grins.  You look at the characters and there's just no soul there.  The battle system's quite fun, though.  The battles could definitely use a moveable camera, however.

And yes, that Raidou Black Frost doll is adorable, and he's currently on duty guarding my GCN/PS2/PS3 collection.

I was a big fan of the Sly Cooper games (which this company also made) so I played the demo last night and found it quite good.  I have some issues with the way your character tends to latch himself onto ledges you didn't want when you're trying to navigate the environment; enemy targeting is a bit too precise; and I'm not sure they can milk electricity-themed powers for a full game, but...I did have a lot of fun with the demo.  And Skating along power lines and train tracks at top speed is the new webslinging as far as I'm concerned.

<shrug>

Greg was correct in that my statement about playing so many Marios was pure hyperbole.  But I maintain that Galaxy isn't branching out enough past the tried-and-true formula of the other two games to REALLY impress me.  I'll grant that I haven't seen too much of the game yet, but what I've seen has been utterly predictable so far.

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking, although it applied to some recent games in a certain other genre. ;)

Seriously it is WAY too early to pass judgment on Mario Galaxy after 20 stars. Also the gravitational and planetoid feature adds a brand new layor to the game and you will NOT find a experience like it elsewhere.

This is actually quite true.  While I'm not that hot on Mario Galaxy, the game gets dramatically better around 50-60 stars when you start really delving into the Comet Stars (especially the Purple Coin Challenged, which tend to be lovely little challenging obstacle courses).  It's actually quite amusing that the game gets dramtically better after you get enough stars to beat it.

The reason this review is getting torn apart I suspect is because there are two camps of people for this game:
- People who are so excited for this game that they can't accept any negative responses
- People who are so apathetic towards this game that they refuse to see this as a good game overall

Well, I've yet to see anyone actually state that this is not a good game, so I don't really agree with your interpretation on that latter camp.  I'ts more a difference between the two camps in the degrees of Punch Out awesomness.  The former camp believe it is a gift from God, the latter an excellent game that's not quite as awesome as it could have been in Nintendo had devoted more time and resources to it.

I miss seeing more of Reggie. He hasn't appeared much since last E3, has he? I always viewed him as a figurehead Nintendo fans listened to and could be used to promote games to us. Is this just because he's been promoted and doesn't oversee advertising anymore?

He probably bought Scrooge McDuck's Moneybin and has been busy swimming in all that cash Nintendo's made the past few years.  Othewise, he's probably been busy preparing those extensive financial Powerpoint presentations they put out at E3.  It takes a long time to put together something so thoroughly effective at boring all of us to tears.  -_-'

Maybe they could get a license to use LittleBigPlanet like Sony did for their presentation ;)

Alright, Nintendo to use Animal Crossing: City Folk for their E3 Presentation engine confirmed.   ;)

Its not on PS3 so it sucks automatically.

I still don't understand why people find a problem with having the same characters in the game.
I have a great idea, let's make the next F-Zero have none of the original characters. Captain Falcon? Screw that. Who needs Samurai Goroh?
Man, I can't wait for Metroid without Ridley, Mother Brain, or Metroids.
Better yet, let's make a Star Fox game without Star Wolf. Oh wait, they did that... (Star Fox Adventures).

Per Wikipedia:
"The original Super Smash Bros. had 12 characters, and the number rose to 25 characters in Melee and 35 in Brawl."

Thats what we're trying to get at.  Fighting games should always increase in characters and levels.  Keeps things fresh as you can't just change the core gameplay every time.

Just to add to that, even Brawl added several weapons, the Final Smash, and (mediocre, but present) Online Play.  There's also that level editor.

But that still wasn't enough.  Brawlz was 9.5'd

Now now...let's not get into that argument.  Different strokes, different folks.  Besides, the online play in that game was certainly garbage enough for me to dock it .5 points.

Actually, to be quite honest I am quite sick of Ridley repeatedly rising from the grave every time I kill him.  This is a series that has probably the most story-based mythology of any of Nintendo's core franchises, yet they keep reviving Ridley (and Kraid in Super Metroid) without any real explanation most of the time.  The series could probably do fine without metroids for a few games as well.

Leaderboards would only get flooded by hacked scores like all previous leaderboard online Wii games.

QFT.  I don't mind the lack of Online Leaderboards, as I find that just makes people rather unpleasant online.  I do mind the lack of Online play at all, though.

I think he is making fun of the modernist.
NOW I WILL POST ABOUT PUNCH-OUT.

Even this review hasn't convinced me to buy this game. I understand why reviewers like Neal and Kohler like it, but they were already massive fans of the series. I enjoy parts of NES Punch-Out but would never call it one of my favorite games. I don't see what this new game has, other than waggle which doesn't appeal to me, for people unfamiliar with Punch-Out or who weren't the biggest fans of previous games. It doesn't sound like they have made the gameplay any more forgiving, which was always the barrier to my interest. Title Defense mode sounds really cool, but I fear that I would never get that far.

I'm in a similar boat: I've only played the original Punch Out, and that was many years ago and even then it was only something I toyed with every now and then.  I'd get a few matches in, have a good time, and then I'd get my ass kicked by one of the later fights and rage quit.  Fast-forwarding to the present, the new game looks interesting but it doesn't look like it goes out of its way to convert people who weren't massive Punch Out nuts in the past.  A co-worker brought a copy in to work yesterday, and it really looks fun...but fun for how long?  It just doesn't seem like there's a lot to do in that game besides repeatedly fight the same 13 characters over and over again, and I just don't see that being worth $40-$50.  When this game drops to something like $30 I'll probably pick it up, but I just don't see anything in the game worth gushing 10s about (other than the terrific graphical style and animations).

There are people called "arcade gamers" who value the joy of execution as the entertainment itself; ie. players who don't mind direct objectives as it creates a focus for general practice and honing SKILL.  They enjoy the core actions and look at you funny when you call it "repetitive."  Each repetition is simply another round of FUN.  It's repeated cuz they want MOAR.

Just admit you're not one these people before these Punch-Out reaction posts become... Repetitive... assuming we're supposed to take these seriously.  Gaming is inherently repetitive, and the reactions vary from person to person.

Fun fact:  I have no fondness for menu-based-turn-based gameplay.  I seek challenges involving realtime decision-actions.

There's nothing wrong with simple Arcade gameplay (remember, I bought House of the Dead: Overkill and quite enjoyed it), and as I've said before I enjoy the core Punch Out gameplay.  However, that core Arcade gameplay is not worth $40-$50 on its own.  This game just feels like a product Nintendo just threw out there with minimal effort (outside of the modelers and animators) in an attempt to appeal to people who just want to play the NES game again with prettier graphics.  They couldn't even be bothered to get their own peripherals (Wiimote + nunchuck, balance board) to work responsively with this game, or to even add simple subtitles on-screen whenever a foreign-language fighter is talking on-screen.

The prime Mario series has never went out of its way to convert people, it is what it is. There is NOTHING wrong with that and besides I think Punch-Out!! has ALWAYS had both a core appeal and mainstream appeal that "going out of its way" would ruin it.

That's not really a valid argument: the Mario series is designed around abstraction and varied gameplay.  At any one point you could be doing a multitude of different tasks, all of which require a different way at looking at how you play the game.  This Punch Out is identical to the old punch out aside from the new multiplayer mode, right down to (from what I hear) the exact same boxer "tells" that clue the player in on when to strike.  Hell, judging by the way my co-workers struggled with King Hippo yesterday, even the difficulty is the same.  The core Punch Out gameplay is very fun, but it's not like Nintendo couldn't have added elements to the game to add some variety to the experience.

I have to admit, I was never a huge fan of the original Punch Out (I played around with it a little as a kid at a friend's house and found it fun but grew bored after a few fights) so I wasn't really interested in this game leading up to its release.  However, today at work a co-worker brought the game in and just tore through the Minor Circuit during his lunch/dinner breaks, and it looked like a lot of fun.  Don't know why everyone who had a go at King Hippo lost till late in the day (everyone was getting nailed by his double-fist grab lunge, which I don't understand since it looks like you can obviously hit his stomach to stop it), though...his patterns look pretty simple.  Definitely a good party game, based on how everyone watching the game was getting into the vs. mode matches.  Still, I might just pick the game up later on if it drops in price a bit.  $40-$50 seems a bit steep for a game where it looks like you're doing the same thing over and over again (looks like it could get really repetitive).

Incidentally, one of my co-workers playing the game is black, and his reaction to the Disco boxer was priceless.   I found it rather funny that they all had a good laugh over Glass Joe and his flying bread, but got a bit annoyed with the Disco fighter.  :P
