Very interesting. I always like when games incorporate real history into their stories.

Is it possible to put the Nintendo News Report videos on iTunes in audio form? I'd love to listen that way.

I know this is video but there is any chance the audio gets put on iTunes? I'd love to listen to it on my iPod as I walk. I'm not going to sit and watch for an hour though.

I'm very interested too. It made my top 10 of games I submitted that I'm looking forward to.

These games are so underrated. I spent nearly 200 hours with the first Story of Seasons game. Between this, Harvest Moon, and Stardew Valley, there will be plenty of options. I may get two, or even all three if they are all good.

My only problem with Sticker Star was that it was just about impossible to play without a guide. Not only did you need to know which stickers to bring with you to a boss fight, you often had to know exactly when to use them during the fight. If you didn't have the necessary stickers with you, or used them at the wrong time, you were just out of luck. I finally resorted to just using an FAQ for the last part of the game. I never would have figured out the sequence for the final boss without it. If Color Splash has the same issue, I won't bother. If that has been corrected I'm eager to try it.

Regarding Gui's point about determining what to talk about. I would much rather hear someone talk about a game a second time that they've now played extensively rather than a cheap e-shop that was only played to have something new to talk about. Usually if you've played a game extensively it's because you found it enjoyable. Talk about what kept you coming back, how did the ending feel, did it maintain momentum, etc. It's fun listening to someone's enjoyment of a game. So do I want to hear Gui talk one more time about Pocket Card Jockey? YES! It's obvious this game hooked him. I find it much better than listening to impressions after 30 minutes of an eshop title most don't care about, including the person that played it who has to try to rip it for an entertaining segment.

Also, I hope Jon provides further updates of his eBay exeriences related to his games. I find the prices some of these games are now going for fascinating.

TalkBack / Re: Remembering Super Mario Bros.

Being older than most of you guys, I have very vivid memories of this game. I got it for Christmas 1987 when I was 15 years old. While we had a Colecovision and Atari, this was the first time I had ever played an NES, and it blew me away. I didn't ask for it for Christmas and barely even knew about it. I just got lucky and this game turned me instantly into a Nintendo fan that nearly 30 years later has not faded.

I remember the bright, colorful, crisp graphics upon turning the game on. Remember, we were mostly used to Atari before this. The first time I jumped up and hit a block to see it explode into smaller pieces was amazing. I actually remember feeling stressed when I kept hitting a coin block and coins kept coming out. Do I keep getting coins while the timer ticks or should I just go? Relief set in when the game made the decision for me! The first time someone accidentally ducked while standing on a pipe left us all in astonishment when we discovered a room below. My dad would later yell at me when I made my little brother duck on all the pipes. Dad thought I was just messing with him since he saw nothing happening!

World 2-2, the first water level was incredibly difficult. At the end of the day my uncle had made it the farthest, level 2-4. We went to sleep thinking that castle was impossible!  Over the coming months I spent tons of hours on that game. I eventually got to where I could beat it playing through all 32 levels in about an hour. Once I even went through all 32 without dying! To me the game was perfect and I'd say it still holds up today better than most of the games of that period.

Holding down R for the whole game does actually sound like some stupid **** I would have put up with in my teen years.

Haha yup I did. I wouldn't put up with it in a modern game but with dk I give it slack because it's a product of its time.

But it does help tremendously. Now the camera in jet force Gemini is far worse imo. I loved that game back then too! Lol.

I realize everyone has probably moved on from this game, but you can change the camera from 'free', which is the default to 'follow', which means you don't have to constantly hold R, in the options. I played about 5 hours before realizing this. It makes a HUGE difference IMO.

but I think his perspective when they discuss business topics in video games is priceless.  Him & Lindemann seem to have experience or innate knowledge of the business & economics sides of gaming, but he especially is able to communicate effectively some of the business complexities like no one else on the podcast, where the others have more of a "gamers/consumer" perspective to bring to the conversation.

I appreciate you see it as one of your favorite podcasts going down a path you no longer enjoy because of your perceived increased of James-mania, but I imagine it must be truly demoralizing to be given this kind of feedback for something that's a pretty big optional commitment.

I couldn't agree more with that point. If James is talking about something he seems to enjoy, the business side of games, Xenoblade, or Ogre Battle, he's an excellent podcaster and is a joy to listen to. It's when the conversation turns to things he doesn't care about such as amiibo, or unfortunately 95% of the games out there it seems, that the snarky, rude James comes out.

I think my kind of feedback does have an effect on James but it's not demoralizing. As a matter of fact I think he thrives on it. My take is that he's putting on a show when podcasting. He, and the whole crew, know there are many people that feel the same way I do and it just encourages him to keep it up. As mentioned earlier, take him out of his comfort zone (podcasting with Johnny, Gui, Jon) and he doesn't play that part. Watch/listen to the E3 podcasts where he with different people and again, you get a different James.

I think the crew really needs to read Kobeskillz comment about taking the time to send an email and then how he felt as it was read on air after James being James trashed it. (I didn't listen to the episode but it's not hard to imagine what happened.) Why would Kobeskillz ever want to send another email? I know I wouldn't. I mean one of the crew or an emailer brings up something we all know James doesn't like (such as Metroid) and on cue, it's on. Here comes the groan, the snarky comment to the effect the podcaster/emailer doesn't know what good games are, and then the interrupting/yelling until the topic turns to something else.

I miss the old show which is why I'm posting here. Obviously, I care about the show or I wouldn't even bother with this. I mentioned that in my email to the crew awhile back. I don't mind people going off every once in awhile, it happens to all of us. But it shouldn't be happening each and every show, imo.

I'm going to be honest. I've listened to RFN for probably 5  years and it was my favorite podcast during most of that run. But I have not listened to the last two episodes and don't plan to listen to any more. James Jones is the reason. I even sent the crew an email a couple months back letting them know I felt James was becoming a problem. Johnny responded and I appreciated that. They even made a quick reference at the beginning of the next show about not yelling at each other which I know was a result of my email.

When Greg left the show, the balance was thrown off because James assumed a more prominent role. If people enjoy listening to him make snarky comments throughout the show, or yelling at others as they try to explain something, then great. I don't. I think it comes off rude and makes it painful to the listener. I hate it because Johnny is probably my favorite Nintendo podcaster out there and I like that Gui is always trying new games, almost always Nintendo related. But James just kills it for me and makes me not want to listen. There are plenty of Nintendo podcasts out there that keep it positive (without the Nintendo worship) that I enjoy much more.

One more thing. I've listened to RFN shows in which James is fine to listen to. You listen to any show in which there is a guest host of someone not from NWR, but the gaming industry, and James is a different person, much more respectful. However it seems on most shows he's intent on playing the role of a troll. The rest of the crew is apparently fine with him being that way because it continues. It's their show so that's cool. It's not for me anymore.

I just wanted to thank you for marking the new business parts so I can easily skip the James Jones part.

Serious? That's an option now? I finally gave up on this show after years of listening b/c I find him annoying to the point its not worth the listen. But if you can now easily skip parts, I may d/l again.

Is the "Our Take" a result of the poll a couple weeks ago? I like it! Makes the news more interesting.

I'm about 10 hours in and I have to agree with just about everything Curtis said. It seems solid but not great. With that said, I'm still enjoying the play through but there isn't much about it that stands out. Hiding objects that are mandatory to further the story behind environmental objects is a big no-no.

I love these games because you are constantly building something and not dying over and over. I'm interested in both. But with Fantasy Life currently taking my time, I'll wait till Story of Seasons releases before picking between the two. If they both get good reviews,  I might get them both.

I still don't get why they just can't disable the picture sharing and leave Swap Note active. Without pictures, there's nothing you can do on Swap Note that can't be done on MiiVerse.

I'm very upset that it was discontinued with no warning. I used it almost daily....267 hours over its life. I had 20-30 friends who used it a lot too and felt like we had a bond with as many notes that were sent back and forth. MiiVerse just isn't the same as Swap Note.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Street Pass!
« on: September 23, 2013, 10:28:11 PM »
So now that we are a good month into it, what is everyones'  experience with the relay stations? About a week after the update, it began to work for me and I was getting Street Passes almost every time I visited one of the 3 McDonalds in my town. I was purposely going inside just to get a Street Pass several times a week. Then after around 2 weeks, I quit getting Street Passes altogether. I then learned there were issues with the relay stations across the country and very few were working.

As of today, I've visited 5 relay stations multiple times in the past week or two and only one (one of the McDonalds) works. I continue to try the others but the green light just never lights up. Is this thing working for anyone else?

Do you still have to beat the game before the picture taking and figurines become available? I like that feature but will not play through twice to experience it.

TalkBack / Re: Embracing the Digital Future on the 3DS
« on: April 01, 2013, 05:03:04 PM »
I'm still reluctant to go digital. I'm speaking of the retail games I have a choice with. Obviously, with the e-shop games and DLC, it's digital or don't play.

I've also got a 32 GB SD card with over 100,000 "blocks". Even with that, I think there are 2 reasons I'm reluctant to go digital. First, if something ever happens to my 3DS, Nintendo does not have a policy in place to ensure I'll get the games I've paid for back. While I've seen plenty of success stories with Nintendo's customer service, I've also seen some that did not have happy endings. Second, if I have to pay the same price to get a digital copy as I do a retail, I'll choose retail almost every time. I mean, why give up the case, cart and manual if I'm paying the same price?

With all that said, I did buy Fire Emblem Awakening digital simply because I couldn't find a physical copy the first few days it released and I didn't want to wait any longer. I will also buy Animal Crossing digital because it's a game I'll play many, many months. Any other games, it'll be retail unless Nintendo puts some kind of standard policy in place and there is some kind of discount passed on the the consumer for going the digital route.

TalkBack / Re: Personable Pawns: A Defense of Permadeath
« on: February 03, 2013, 10:54:07 AM »
I've played through both both console Fire Emblem games and part of Sacred Stones. I can tell you the first thing I'm doing when I get this game next week is turning off the permadeath. I'm just like 90% of everyone else in that the first thing I did when I lost someone in the previous games was to reset the game. At times it was could be highly frustrating, especially if you had just played an hour. I don't need the aggravation, and would rather not waste the time by playing with permadeaths on. I'm going to enjoy it just as much as I did before, probably even more knowing I don't have that added stress.

« on: January 19, 2013, 10:19:58 AM »
I guess it's just a matter of perspective because after seeing the releases I was wondering how I'm going to have time to play them all.

Jan: The Cave (possible)

Feb: Fire Emblem (definite buy)
Rayman Legends (definite buy)

March: Castlevania: Lord of Shadow (probable)
Luigi's Manision 2 (definite buy)
Bit Trip Runner 2 (possible)
Toki Tori 2 (possible)
ATV Wild Ride (possible)
Lego City Undervcover (possible)

Add in the fact I'm still playing through Epic Mickey 2, Super Mario U, Wario Land 2 and I don't have enough time as it is.
