Couldn't find the topic for this.

Anybody else playing? What stories have you gone through and how far? Any favorite parts? Do you find the glitches/bug distracting? How does everyone feel about the new direction?

General Chat / Good gaming PC for 11-year-old?
« on: November 05, 2021, 02:42:52 PM »
Hey, all you cool cats and kittens.

I know this sounds like one of those spambot-machine posts, but it's me! Your boy, Guzma nickmitch!

Anyway, my nephew is turning 11 this year, and my sister has informed me that he wants a gaming PC for Christmas. He actually wants a whole setup, so it's lucky that Christmas and his birthday are in the same month. Anyway, I was wondering if you guys could offer any recommendations for something his level. We're looking for something not-too-expensive, definitely doesn't need to be high-end, because 11. He doesn't need to play Crysis at the highest settings (people still say that, right?), but just be able to play whatever it is the kids are playing right now.

Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!

NWR Forums Discord / J&J Dream Factory Market Research: ACNH DLC
« on: June 04, 2020, 05:41:50 PM »
With Nintendo's release calendar looking pretty thin (this is a pun in reference to Paper Mario being flat), they're only hope hitting internal revenue targets is milking the biggest cash cow they have right now: Animal Crossing.  Recently, RFN talked about all the much needed QOL improvements the game needs.  But why should Nintendo give people what they want when they've already paid for the game when there's more money to be made?  With that in mind the answer is obvious: paid QOL Animal Crossing DLC.

So, as the J&J's free labor division, what QOL improvements should come to ACNH, and how much should Nintendo charge?

I'll go first: $4.99 US lets you craft more than one of an item at a time.

So, Playstation Vue is getting shut down.  It'll end in January of 2020.  The live cable alternative cost its 500K users $50/month which was on par with other services.  However, competition was too stiff.  This is notable as one of the first big streaming services to bite the dust.  However, it remains to be seen if this is a one-off or the canary in the coal mine.

Nintendo Gaming / Bad Connection Speed on Switch?
« on: June 03, 2018, 03:44:50 PM »
So, I tried to play the Mario Aces demo and the connection was terrible.  I couldn't move my character around.  I just my connection speed, and it was paltry.  I ran a speed test on my computer and that prompted me to reset my router.

Another speed test shows 78 Mbps down and 75 up.  However, the Switch still shows only 26/15 Mbps.  They're both on the same network.  Is the speed on the Switch capped?  Or might there be something wrong with my Switch?

General Gaming / ESRB Says "Loot Boxes" Aren't Gambling
« on: October 12, 2017, 12:34:08 PM »

Soure: Kotaku

Quote
“ESRB does not consider loot boxes to be gambling,” said an ESRB spokesperson in an e-mail to Kotaku. “While there’s an element of chance in these mechanics, the player is always guaranteed to receive in-game content (even if the player unfortunately receives something they don’t want). We think of it as a similar principle to collectible card games: Sometimes you’ll open a pack and get a brand new holographic card you’ve had your eye on for a while. But other times you’ll end up with a pack of cards you already have.”

They go on to define gambling, and note the impact the labeling would have:

Quote
According to the ESRB’s criteria, “Real Gambling” is any sort of wagering involving real cash, while “Simulated Gambling” means that the “player can gamble without betting or wagering real cash or currency.” The spokesperson added that any game with real gambling will always receive an “Adults Only” rating, which would be poisonous for big publishers, as most big-box retailers will not sell A-O games in their stores.

Some players want this on the boxes, possibly as a way to deter the practice of randomized loot boxes in games, and aren't happy with the ESRB decision.

Wanted to see what everyone's thoughts were on the Pro Controller and maybe get a discussion going.

Hopefully the poll has enough options.

Is there really not a thread for this? If there was and I missed it, feel free to mock me in the Funhouse.

Anyone else played or playing?  I just wrapped up all the black coins and am feeling like there's not much else to live for.  Toad Rally is fun, but I'm running out of stuff to unlock.

For the $10, either I over played it, or it needs some more content.

Nintendo Gaming / Sending in my Wii U for repair
« on: February 18, 2015, 09:52:19 PM »
Has anyone sent in their Wii U before?

I think I'm just supposed to send it, but I dunno what kind of box Nintendo expects me to ship it in, but I also need a plastic bag to put it in.

Any shipping tips?

Nintendo Gaming / Kirby in 3D?

So, Hal Labs is interested in making a Kirby game in full 3D.

Would this interest you?
Would the gameplay translate into 3D?

Do you not care because you hate that Kirby is adorable and you're not?

General Gaming / Microsoft's New Pricing Model
« on: May 07, 2012, 10:56:48 PM »
http://content.microsoftstore.com/store/xblive2yr-offer/

So, MS is now offering the 4GB 360 with Kinect for $99. The catch? You have to agree to pay for 2 years of Xbox Live Gold. ($360) Much like a cell phone plan, there's an ETF schedule. It's currently on a trial basis, but could take off if successful.

What does everyone think of this new pricing scheme? Think we'll see more of it either this or next gen?

Rules: Just follow the formula!
If you're_______ and you________, then you're a bastard.

Example, If you're someone's ex-roommate and they let you crash, and you thank them by changing their facebook status to something blatantly homosexual, then you're a bastard.

So, I'm watching Conan, and I had incidentally had this up.  (I used it in a MySpace message.)  I hit the button (because it's awesome) right after Conan made a joke in his monologue.  I noticed this and kept doing.  I'm still doing it now.  It makes everything so much funnier.  I'll be doing this with other shows. I recommend it.

NWR Forums Discord / Amazon.com is pissing me off.
« on: January 16, 2009, 12:04:56 PM »
And so is Activision/Red Octane.  First, Activision tells me that they have no idea when a stand alone drum kit will be released.  Then, they refer me to Red Octane's site, which sends me back to Activision.  As asinine as this is, it's not nearly pissing me off as much as Amazon.com

Source of anger.

So, I go to Amazon.com to look and see if there's a drum kit on the site.  The fruit of that labor is above.  I just can't believe that they want to charge 165 fuckmothering USD for JUST THE DRUMS.  Now, I don't want to seem whiny.  I understand that Europeans and Aussies get the pricing shaft on a daily basis, but this **** is bull-****!

The band kit is 190.  Subtract a $50 game, $35 mic, and $50 guitar (though the new one is $65), and you get $55.  Yet, they charge triple!  WTF?  They literally rip the **** right out of the damn band kit!

I'm sorry for this rant.  I'm sorry if this was previously discussed.  It's just that I was playing on buying the drums and another Wii Remote sometime soon, and this just shits all over that.

EDIT: I realized that I didn't call Amazon.com a bunch of derogatory names.  So, if you could just imagine me doing that (apply you favorites!), that'd be great.
