So I completed Splatterhouse on Switch via the Namco Museum. I forgot to mention that I was using the NES joycon. The game only uses two buttons and the d-pad on those controllers is my favorite for switch options. Again, the music, graphics, and tight controls make me heartily recommend this game. I tried out the TG16 version via the TG16 mini. There are the usual downgrades you get with any arcade to console port. The most noticeable losses were the music and Rick's mask. The protagonist is obviously a Jason knock-off in the arcade game and perhaps that would not fly with a console release. The red mask in the console version sort of bothered me

The TG-16 game also limits you to 5 continues where as the arcade game does not. However you do get 5 hearts i.e. you can get hit 1 more time per life. Still a decent port and I don't know why I never played it on my TG-16 growing up. The TG-16 controllers are also two-button but have built-in turbo switches (they are even called "Turbo-pads"). The middle setting does work for attacking repeatedly but I still prefer to mash the buttons myself.
Also, in the discord we had a patron game night and played some Luigi's Mansion 3 multiplayer. It is really fun but most of us had not played since the game came out so we were not familiar enough with the controls to get very far.

Disappointed to miss out on the finals by just a hair, but satisfied to run away with the bronze on his first attempt, Mr. Bungle chugs another Mountain Dew to wash down his third bag of Doritos (Cool Ranch, obvs).
He wipes the chips dust off on his controller, where it congeals into the existing layers of Cheetos grime, slowly becoming a future archeological dig site...
Dude, Gears Tactics isn't even a FPS and there is no multiplayer! The bro-pak is most disappointed

It feels like a 1 player co-op game with the mechanics of the Legion and your character working in tandem together. I only have the Sword Legion so far but I have seen some gameplay of the other Legions and each provides a different style of play and when used in conjunction with each other it should be fun. Also the art style is beautiful.
I think Astral Chain is my favorite Platinum game. I do really like Bayonetta 2 but the variety of gameplay in Astral Chain worked for me as I am not super into action games. I totally agree about the art style, one of the best looking games on switch.

I mentioned a few scary games to play earlier but I just started Hi-Score Girl on Netflix and the first episode features a lot of classic arcade games including Splatterhouse. This game is quite scary for an eighties arcade game. The music is creepy and the visuals are quite graphic. I had always assumed it was cartoony, but I don't know of anything this dark and mature of the same time period. The games controls are tight and the enemy designs are creative and varied. It gets difficult in stage 3 but with unlimited credits/continues you can get through the game without resorting to save states. If you have the Namco Museum on switch I recommend checking this game out as part of Shocktober 2020.

My one memory of LittleBigPlanet3 is having a game breaking bug half-way through. With no way to clear the save I had to start over using another user profile . I just re-subbed to Netflix after a year hiatus and I am catching up on what I missed. I am just finishing Castlevania season 3. It is really good. I think it keeps getting better. They do a great job of balancing all the different story lines. I was explaining the show to a friend and realized there are not many serious animated shows for adults made in the US. Maybe this is the appeal of Anime to western audiences. Are there some other shows like this I am missing out on?

Alien Isolation is probably my favorite scary game. I have been meaning to replay it since I got the PS4 camera as you can have it detect your movement and sound. I am also considering ZombiU or State of Decay 2. I just need to finish The Wonderful 101 first.

« on: October 01, 2020, 06:29:25 PM »I would say I found Hard Mode in Tropical Freeze more enjoyable then Normal because you could at least choose between which Kong you wanted to play as before each level. \I actually forgot this. I played through the hard mode with only DK.
I guess that was super hard mode. I did a few time trials but I found I could only get through one a day. I am just not that into speedrunning, even with games I like to replay.

I am one of the deviants who started with Sunshine. But as Greg mentioned it is the first re-release. Having missed the Gamecube generation I never played it. I thought about getting a Gamecube disc to play on my Wii but they are pricey. My initial thoughts are that it controls better than 64 but not as good as Galaxy, which seems obvious given the lineage. I may change my tune after attempting to 100% it.

The only Bethesda game I have played is Skyrim VR for PSVR. What I like most about Bethesda is their initiatives with 3D and VR in their games. I hope this acquisition does not mitigate those endeavors going forward as it seems X Box is playing it safe with games since the Kinect crash.

I can see people's complaints with Retro bosses but I have found they are really enjoyable. I am also a glutton for punishment. If I may bring up again my recent 200% run of DKCTP . In hard mode the final boss requires a perfect run since you are going in with just one heart and you only have DK, no helper monkeys. I probably spent 5-6 hours just repeating that boss fight.
But Khush, what did you think of the rocket barrel and mine cart levels?

Were you getting all the puzzle pieces?

The mine cart levels in DKC are the ones I love so I was hoping Playtonic would have put some in. Impossible Lair is still a great game and I highly recommend it.
Now that you mention it, I do remember mine cart levels in DK 64 and Yooka Laylee. I don't think the 3D version has been done that well yet.
