I Am Moving
« on: August 22, 2007, 07:59:47 PM »
Not that I like to announce the events of my personal life to the Internet, I thought it might be appropriate to at least say that I am moving 300 miles north of my current city (Medford, Oregon) to the beautiful Portland, Oregon. No, I am not leaving Oregon. Oregon is beautiful, unlike your state. Portland is even more beautiful than any other city in Oregon, making it the most beautiful place on the Earth. Come and visit! I'll show you around to all the fancy brewpubs and movie theatres. We can see an artfilm! And I'll tell you exactly what I think of it when we're done.

I hear Bioshock came out, too bad I don't have a 360, I also hear Metroid 3 is coming out, too bad I am out of cash moneys, I'm broke and on the street, I'm spending all my money on gasoline for my car machine.

I know some of you Washington peeps live nearby. You can say hello, it's okay.

So that's that.

I thought you were going to move farther away from Washington not closer. Now I shall live in fear knowing you are so much closer. Oh yeah for YOUR information it isn't Metroid 3, that was Super Metroid (it even says so in the opening cutscene) it is Metroid Prime 3!

Someone should send Evan the NWR rag of MP3 when the reviews are done.  Good luck with your move!  I'd offer to help, but...ummm...I'm busy that day.

And, of course, there's that whole I'm in Florida thing that helps make me so awesome.

Judging by the CD in his head, I'd say someone beat you to it.

If I'm ever on the West Coast I will take you up on your offer. If you are ever on the 'North Coast', I shall accompany you to the joys of Cedar Point, America's largest amusement park. And I will listen to what you think of each roller coaster, though I doubt I will agree

I recently made a sudden move to Washington D.C. to pursue higher education. And New Orleans makes LA the most beautiful state solely because of boobs. Yes, Mardi Gras yields boobs, and they make an excellent view. They're better than any crappy trees, anyway.

For school, mostly. I am attending Portland State University; I am also writing for their school paper, which pays moneys. Other than that, Portland has one million more things to do than Medford, chief amongst them movies to see and restaurants at which to eat (my two favorite occupations).

If anyone else wants to know about Evans new Home.  Cool that the School Newspaper pays.  Tech's didn't from what I heard but, no one read it.  It was horrible.  Though no one knows whats going on most of the time there.  We've won National events and the campus wouldn't know till it was on CNN or something.  Though in general campus newspapers are suppose to be the most read form of publication with the greatest penetration with its core demographic I heard.

Well, if you get to go to one place in all of the US when you do visit, come here. It's great. Really beautiful, lots of movie theatres and cultural hubs, easy to meet people, etc. Oregonians are known for being nice, I just didn't think everyone in Portland would be the same.

Although I'm kinda homeless right now. Other than that, life is awesome.

Seattle's pretty hep, but urban sprawl makes that city crowded and spread out. I haven't spent much time there in the past few years, but what I saw last time I was there, I've heard from residents, is getting worse. I won't bother making a comparison for now.

Seattle IS beautiful though.

And it IS in the Pacific Northwest, which makes it so much better than any other place in America.

Does your new home have beautiful wood-paneled walls, like your old one, or have you downgraded to a place with painted plaster?

I don't have a new place yet, as I'm staying with friends temporarily. Hopefully when I do find a place I will be once again luxuriantly bombarded with wood paneling. (My last place felt like a log cabin since it wasn't wood paneled, it was all real wood.)

Dude, props on the move.  Portland rocks.  I grew up down in Hood River, and lived in Beaverton for a few years.  I love it up there.  I recently moved down to LA to pursue film, but if there was any sort of film business going on up there you know that's where I'd be.  If you need suggestions or recommendations of places to stay hit me up man.  My bro is starting at PLU in a few weeks as well, so that's cool.  Also congrats on the writing gig.

Portland has a pretty impressive array of film talent, obviously Gus Van Sant and Todd Haynes; movies are made here all the time, though not as much as LA; there are tons of independent theatres (that serve beer and pizza) that show excellent movies; Portland State University has its own movie theatre run by students, and they show awesome movies too.

I actually moved here FOR movies, as well as everything else.

I'll give you that.  Portland does have a lot of film talent, I'll give you that.  What I've seen Portland lacks though is the infrastructure.  There are plenty of post houses all over the place, sure.  What I had issue with in Portland was the limited selection of locations of which to get gear from.  There is essentially one.  Also, Oregon's film office isn't very helpful or informative.  Now, it's perfectly possible to get around these issues, but it wasn't for me.  I'm more of the filmmaker, and less of the producer.  I didn't have any producing friends, and that made everything more difficult for me.  Props on the move though, I've made plenty of fun films around those parts.  And it certainly is beautiful around there.

The variety of locations is certainly one thing I am missing down here though.  All within an hour or two from Portland are deserts, beaches, snow scapes, forests, fields, and underground caverns.  Me?  Well, I've got palm trees.

And whoops, my bad.  I didn't mean PLU (although I do have friends who attend) I meant PSU.  I'll have him send me some of the articles you've written.

I'm bumping this not to make a big deal out of recent events, but just to let you know since I made a big deal out of leaving in the first place: I didn't stay in Portland longer than a month - it didn't work out, and moved back about a week and a half ago. No biggie, I'm home. I'm trying to minimize. Portland's beautiful, you should visit. I'll be back soon I'm sure.

Sorry to hear that, Svevan. Keep your spirits up... I've moved to a new city before (cross country, where I knew no one)... if there are two things that moving successfully takes, they are:

1) Lots of determination, and
2) A good deal of luck.

At least, that's the recipe as I saw it. So (and please excuse the cliché), don't give up. If you want it badly enough, you'll get back there.
